I hold a bachelor's and master's in art history, with a concentration in early modern European art. I attended THE Ohio State University for my undergraduate degree, and attended Southern Methodist University for my master's. During my time as a master's student, I was a teaching assistant to four different undergraduate art history courses, and spent a significant amount of time teaching, grading, and holding office hours with my students. To simply put my tutoring style: I am a lover of learning. Learning new things myself, and helping others to learn, are life-affirming experiences for me. Knowledge is joyful, and powerful! I want my students to walk away from our sessions feeling similarly.I have begun tutoring for those studying the LSAT and would love to continue to take on LSAT learners. Contrary to what you have learned from major LSAT teaching companies, the LSAT is simple and straightforward: there is one correct answer, and four wrong ones. Slow reading and a careful approach to understanding every stimulus are keys to LSAT success, and I want to help you get there! After beginning at a 154, I have practiced into the 170's, and am still taking the LSAT myself to have that reflected in my actual score.I would also love to spend some of my time with my LSAT students on their admissions applications. I have received a full ride, or more, in scholarships for each degree I have received, and I can help you achieve that same financial success with your law school application. I hope to hear from you and can't wait to help you on your law school journey!

I was born and raised in Dallas and am a huge Mavericks and Rangers fan. I attended high school at The Hockaday School and received my BA from SMU. I am also a recent graduate from Indiana University Maurer School of Law.My tutoring experience began in 2003, when I decided to move to Chicago and spend a year with AmeriCorps. AmeriCorps is a lot like the Peace Corps, only volunteers stay in the US and work for a variety of independent charities and organizations. I worked for The University of Chicago Center for Urban School Improvement an initiative of the university to bolster education in some of the city's lowest achieving schools. During the school day I served as a Literacy Tutor for students in Kindergarten through 3rd grade. I also provided homework help and math and literacy tutoring for K-8 students in an after-school program. At the conclusion of the school year, I was part of a team of two tutors whose students demonstrated the most improvement of all the students in the program, and I was selected to attend the Leadership Training Seminar by the Illinois Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service. During this year I fell in love with the Windy City, the Cubs, and deep dish pizza. I also learned a lot about keeping students engaged by finding a way to help them relate to the material. I believe that the most effective teachers are those who are willing to learn from their students. Overall, it was an extremely rewarding experience. Also among my most rewarding life experiences has been the opportunity to study and travel abroad extensively. While at SMU I completed a summer session in the South-of-France and a semester in Paris. In law school, I spent a summer studying International and Comparative Law at Trinity University in Dublin, Ireland. Perhaps the most rewarding experience of all was being able to spend my final semester of law school as an exchange student at the University of Hong Kong, China. The chance to learn and study with students and faculty of diverse nationalities and cultures has been both enlightening and exciting. It truly generates appreciation for learning and the greater world community. My experience has taught me that, when it comes to education, learning isn't always confined to a classroom setting. I don't believe that superior performance on standardized tests is the most crucial part of one's educational experience, but high scores have become increasingly important across almost all grade levels. I have been fortunate enough throughout my academic career to have had good success with standardized testing. I was a National Merit Scholar and scored in the top 10% on the LSAT. Good preparation is vital for building confidence when facing intimidating exam conditions, and I believe my insight can be helpful to students wishing to improve test scores, reduce test anxiety, and raise general academic confidence.I truly enjoy working with students at all levels and from all backgrounds. I look forward to being a part of your child's academic success.

Greetings! I am an attorney / Sociology instructor who has a passion and love for both subjects. I attained my M.S. in Applied Sociology in 2006 and began teaching at Collin College the same year. I just finished my 15th year with the school as a part-time adjunct professor and I look forward to year 16! I went to law school later than the traditional student, but I was in a job that brought me no joy or sense of accomplishment, and I wanted something more fulfilling than a paycheck, so I went to law school at age 37. I was fortunate to score well on the LSAT and get a partial scholarship to SMU Dedman School of Law. I received my J.D. two months after my 40th birthday and have been practicing for 8 years. It has been the best 8 years of my life! I currently have my own practice that focuses on CPS, mental health, and juvenile cases, but also am of counsel with a mid-size law firm as their Estate Planning and Probate attorney. I really enjoy staying busy and working with new attorneys and mentoring law school students. I think tutoring is a perfect extension of all the things I love about my job and life and I hope I can help students who are struggling with the materials so they can be successful in their academic and professional lives. I look forward to working with you!

Growing up, I never had the dream of teaching. I simply was in love with being a learner and a student of life. As I learned, I grew into the idea that knowledge contained power, if I only I could understand and apply it appropriately. This was largely in part to having instructors who taught me that the value of education was much deeper than receiving a piece of paper or a good career. They taught me that the value of education was being able to understand life as we know it and being able to transform it through the power of our mind and the information we put in it. As I participated in the process of learning this way, I fell in love with the experience and desired to replicate it as much as possible. As I continued to learn, I naturally began to teach. While I have always been one to share what I know when helpful and relevant, I didn't start working in an actual teaching capacity until I was a sophomore in college. It was then that I became an in-classroom tutor for the Little Rock School District in Little Rock, Arkansas for a program called AVID. AVID stands for Advancement via Individual Determination and was largely aimed at offering students from disadvantaged backgrounds extra skills in studying, life skills and college preparation. I thoroughly enjoyed the holistic learning that was built into the model. I worked with students who had unique stories that revolved around living urban life. Many of them had no interest in school because they had real life problems at home. So, in one of our sessions together, I learned what their favorite songs were, pulled up the lyrics, projected them onto the screen and we learned the different styles of poetry that were written into the music they loved. This is an example of how learning can be applied in such a way that even education about rhetoric is transformative. After this, I went into substitute teaching where I was afforded the luxury of working with students on every grade level. While pursuing my masters degree at Southern Methodist University, I became a youth pastor and continued teaching ages 12-17 but this time about Christianity instead of public school curriculum. Bible study that was completely faith based before had become universally objective. I was not teaching the youth reasons why they should subscribe to Christianity. Instead, they were learning about how the teachings of Christianity have, will and can show up in our lives and the varying ways to view those teachings in light of history. Upon graduating, I became an adjunct instructor in humanities at Philander Smith College teaching courses in religion. It was here that my degree in English became critical as it was necessary to help many of my students in their writing.Writing is extremely vital. What we can produce from it has the capacity to allow us and our ideas to live forever. All of us have something inside of us worth sharing with the world. I enjoy helping my students find and cultivate the voice theyd like to say it with. It is important when working with people in general to establish positive relationships where we can accomplish our goals as our authentic selves. With my students, this means getting to know their learning styles and interests so I know best how to approach working with them. The range of studies I have been able to teach has afforded me to work with many different types of students. They have all different faculties and capabilities; No two students are alike. It is important to me to be aware of who I am working with so that I can reach each student equitably. As I continue to teach, my goal is continue creating experiences for students that transform and grow the value of education. My approach is to never tell a student what to think but to work with them in cultivating how they think and ensuring that their thinking is both critical and sound. By meeting students where they are, helping them digest and apply the information they learn, I can help them go where their goals can be reached.

I am a retired educator with almost 30 years of experience in the classroom and library. A large part of my classroom instruction involved tutoring in all core subject areas in grades K-5. As a librarian,I had the pleasure of working with middle school teens as a resource and mentor in academic competitions and other activities. My teaching philosophy involves listening to the student and assessing weaknesses and strengths. I use scaffolding to build upon small successes until the student has mastered skills and achieved his/her goals.

Although I have master's degrees in voice and also teach violin and beginner guitar, music is not my only language. I can help you with writing, editing, public speaking, or remembering material for a test. I have taught English language arts for three years and specialize in grammar and writing. I can tutor any elementary subject and most middle school subjects. In my third year of college I learned study, comprehension, and memorizing skills that I wished I had been taught in first grade! Don't wait to learn how to learn!
