My name is Bitanya Dawit, and I'm a sophomore at SMU studying Finance and Statistics with a minor in Public Policy. Math has always been a passion of mine. I tutor elementary through 8th-grade math and aim to make each session clear, supportive, and engaging. I am also a professional violinist and bring patience, focus, and creativity to my teaching. I am exploring future careers in accounting or law, and love that tutoring allows me to grow as a communicator while sharing something I truly enjoy.

Passionate educator specializing in teaching ESL, Spanish as a Foreign Language, and English Composition. Over six years of experience teaching a wide range of students in a variety of settings including K-12, university, private tutoring, and professional development. I am a current graduate student at Marquette University studying to earn a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology. I previously graduated from Southern Methodist University (SMU) with a B.A. in Psychology (with Distinction) and Sociology. While attending SMU, I worked as a tutor for high school and college students in the Dallas area. Prior to college, I also had the opportunity to tutor students in elementary, middle, and high school, while I attended high-school in California. The primary subjects I tutor include mathematics, psychology, and sociology, as well as help with study skills and test preparation. I also tutor students for the SAT math, GRE Quantitative, GRE Analytical Writing sections.I really enjoy all of these subjects equally so my ultimate goal is to create an individualized and enjoyable learning environment that fits each student's style in order to promote the most success. Each and every type of successful experience builds an individual's confidence, which will further motivate a student to learn more challenging concepts and subjects. I truly believe that every student has the ability to learn and be successful, which requires the right approach to the material and dedication to master the small goals in order to conquer the larger goal.In my free time I enjoy outdoor activities, such as bike riding, walking trails, and horseback riding. I also enjoy cooking and baking, reading mystery novels, and trying new coffee shops and restaurants.
I am a professional Performance Artist with a deep love for Math and Science. I attended a fine arts magnet school from 5th grade until my graduation from high school, where I learned to maintain a healthy balance and integration of my passions for the Arts and academia. I approach tutoring on a case-by-case basis, allowing the student to inform me of what he or she needs and what methods of teaching work best for them. I always hold my students and myself accountable, expecting a reasonable amount of progress over a period of time from us both. I always do my best to integrate fun and play as I teach, so that the work for the students stays as far away from daunting as we can manage.
I am an experienced University of Pennsylvania Spanish Instructor.I am a near-native speaker of Spanish with extensive travel experience in Mexico as well as four years residing in Spain. I hold an undergraduate degree in Spanish from Southern Methodist University, a Master's degree in Spanish from Indiana University, and an M.Phil. (all doctoral work except for dissertation) in Spanish from New York University.I just ended a five-year nonrenewable teaching contract with the University of Pennsylvania in which I was awarded the department Certificate of Excellence for Spanish teaching at the Lecturer Level. I enjoyed high student ratings and can provide excerpts from those ratings on request.I love helping students learn the Spanish language, and I like to make the learning engaging and pleasant as well as challenging. I think learning songs is one of the best ways to learn a language, and I encourage students to do this. I am very interested in accent remediation and I believe that almost all students are capable of significantly improving their accent with practice and awareness of some of the phonetic differences between English and Spanish.
I graduated from Washington and Lee University with a BA in English then earned my MA in English from Southern Methodist University. My standardized test scores and essays gained me admission offers from Wake Forest University and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. My GRE scores earned me a graduate fellowship in my current master's program. I'm pursuing an MBA at the McColl School of Business at Queens University in Charlotte. I completed an MS in Organization Development there recently.I have 10 years of teaching and tutoring experience. I was a High School English teacher who taught every grade level from standard freshmen to AP seniors. I love to help students prepare for all types of tests and improve their writing. Literature is my passion, and I can help struggling readers gain confidence. I'm an open-minded, non-judgmental tutor who loves to watch students improve.I take being a dog mom very seriously and enjoy spending time with human and furry friends.
I believe strongly in every student's ability to be successful. I am a first generation college graduate of Brigham Young University-Idaho with a B.A. in Applied Mathematics. December of 2020 I will be finishing a Ph.D. in Computational and Applied Mathematics from Southern Methodist University. I can relate with students who struggle or feel underprepared for a course because I've been there, but I also know you can succeed, because I did. I have been tutoring or teaching in some compacity since 2009 as an undergraduate tutor, high-school math teacher, and online instructor. I love working with students and helping them reach their goals!
I recently graduated from Relay School of Education with a master's degree in early childhood education. While studying at Relay, I worked at a charter school in Colorado, teaching lower elementary students. In Colorado, I taught many subjects, but I am most passionate about helping students learn how to read and understand basic math. I have seen the difference small group instruction can make on a student's academic performance and overall attitude towards school. School should be a place you are excited to go to, and sometimes if you struggle in a subject, it can taint the whole experience. I want to foster a love for learning by helping students feel confident in their abilities to read, write, and solve math equations.
I have over thirty years experience as a mechanical design engineer, engineering analyst, and engineering manager in the aerospace, semiconductor equipment, and automated electronic test equipment industries.I also have over fifteen years teaching engineering courses at the community college and university levels.I am looking forward to helping you with your skills development as you prepare for your career goals.
Unleash Your Inner Math Genius with Salim! Ever feel like math problems seem designed by evil geniuses? That used to be me too! But instead of accepting defeat, I turned the tables and became obsessed with unlocking the mysteries of numbers. Before joining high school, someone told me I wasn't good at it, which motivated me to take advanced-level math, work hard, and prove them wrong. In the process, I discovered a love for the subject. Now, with a Master's degree in Economics and Analytics under my belt, I'm on a mission to help YOU do the same. For the past three years, I've been helping 100s of high school and university students at Southern Methodist University, Baum Tenpers Institute, and among others, level up their math and economics skills on a part-time basis. I also have industry experience in research, finance, and data science which means I can show you how math applies to the real world. Ready to crack the math code and unlock your academic potential? Let's embark on this exciting journey together!

I am a retired educator with almost 30 years of experience in the classroom and library. A large part of my classroom instruction involved tutoring in all core subject areas in grades K-5. As a librarian,I had the pleasure of working with middle school teens as a resource and mentor in academic competitions and other activities. My teaching philosophy involves listening to the student and assessing weaknesses and strengths. I use scaffolding to build upon small successes until the student has mastered skills and achieved his/her goals.
As a tutor, I firmly believe in the power of personalized attention. Each student is unique, with their own strengths, weaknesses, and aspirations. I am committed to identifying these individual qualities and tailoring my approach to ensure their academic growth. Whether we are working on homework assignments, preparing for exams, or developing essential study skills, I will provide guidance and mentorship to help my students succeed both inside and outside the classroom. I strongly value effective communication and collaboration. I encourage open dialogue with both students and parents, as it is essential for establishing clear goals and expectations. I am always open to feedback and believe that ongoing communication is key to creating a positive and successful tutoring experience. Beyond academics, I strive to instill important life skills in my students. Time management, critical thinking, problem-solving, and resilience are just a few of the skills I aim to cultivate. I want my students to develop a sense of confidence and independence, enabling them to tackle challenges not only in their academic pursuits but also in their future endeavors. I am thrilled to be a part of the Varsity Tutors community, a platform that values excellence in education. It is my genuine belief that education is a lifelong journey, and I am committed to accompanying my students on that journey, guiding them towards their goals and dreams.
I have a Bachelor of Arts from Southern Methodist University. My major is World Languages French and Spanish and my minor is Economics. My graduating GPA was 3.67 and I am a member of several honor societies. I participated in the SMU study abroad program, and previously obtained an Associate of Arts in Teaching Degree in Foreign Languages with a GPA of 4.0.I also have over a year experience tutoring high school students in AVID program; moreover I was an intern for the French American Chamber of Commerce. I did my minor in Economics, which is the reason why I had to take many calculus courses and advanced math classes.I was born in Colombia, therefore my first language is Spanish; also I had the opportunity to study abroad in Paris while I was doing my undergrad career.I believe each student has the potential to master new concepts with the right approach and I will love to help you achieve your goals!!!
I've been fortunate to have spent half of my life living in South America and am therefore native bilingual in English and Spanish. I came to the United States to obtain my undergraduate degree from Brandeis University in Waltham, Ma. Six years later, I moved to Dallas, TX to work as an elementary school teacher in an urban school district. I've been here for ten years and have spent the entire decade working in education. I have taught all subjects and almost all grades in elementary school. In 2011 I graduated from Southern Methodist University with a Master's in Bilingual Education. In recent years, I have worked as an instructional coach and academic specialist, which has allowed me to look at education from a different lens and therefore given me a comprehensive look at curriculum and instruction.I am currently completing my principal certification and hope to pursue this goal in the near future. The rest of my time is spent with my wife and two children of 1 and 4 years. I played varsity tennis in college and continue to play locally.
My name is Sara, and I am passionate about anything related to finance. I am a CFA charterholder with 4 years of buy-side credit analysis experience. I'm happy to help you with your financial and accounting courses
I find all children fascinating but especially those from 2-6 years of age. I believe the children are our future, teach them well and let them lead the way (Thank you Whitney Houston!) Early Childhood (especially Montessori education) is my forte; making education equitable for ALL is my passion. While I am fond of teaching and tutoring, educational leadership is what I am good at. Inspiring teachers to become the best they can be is something I am very enthusiastic about. Helping early childhood educators develop their strengths and discover their love for teaching is what I aim to achieve. Curriculum and leading the way to best practices in all aspects of education, specifically in Montessori, is what I enjoy. "Now, what really makes a teacher is love for the human child; for it is love that transforms the social duty of the educator into the higher consciousness of a mission." - Dr. Maria Montessori
Hi everyone! My name is Emily and I am so excited to be virtually meeting you. I am originally from the mountains of North Carolina and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I also completed my Master's Degree in Education with a concentration in Gifted and Talented from Southern Methodist University. I have since moved back to Charlotte, North Carolina in 2022 where I live with my chocolate lab, Happy. I am so excited to work with you!
I received my BBA in Accounting from Southern Methodist University, and I am currently in the Master of Accounting program at the same university. I have not looked back since my first financial accounting course, and I greatly enjoy helping others better understand accounting. I know that just memorizing answers will get you nowhere in your accounting courses. I strive to help my students understand the why and how behind the answer so they can apply their knowledge to a greater range of problems.
I am a PhD student at UT Southwestern Medical Center. I have received my Master's in Biotechnology at Johns Hopkins University and my Bachelor's in Biochemistry at Southern Methodist University. I've tutored middle school, high school, and college students in math (Algebra I & II, Geometry, Calculus I-II) and science (Biology, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry). I have the most experience with and enjoy teaching Algebra I & II and Chemistry though. I grew up as a athlete myself (figure skater) and so am aware of the strenuous schedule student athletes have and work to be as flexible as I can with my own schedule so that I can accommodate these students.
I strive to tutor and teach in an encouraging, uplifting manner, and believe that acting as a teammate, mentor and friend to students leads to effective learning and positive results.I received my MBA from SMU in May of 2018, and prior to that, graduated from UT Austin in May of 2013 with a degree in Public Relations and Communications. I currently work as a wealth manager in the Park Cities, and have experience in finance, technology and professional services.
I hold a Master's degree in Mathematics from Georgia State University, an MBA from Golden Gate University, and a Bachelor's in Civil Engineering from Southern Methodist University. I am a licensed professional engineer, retired with thirty years of experience leading multinational corporations. I served as a member of the Clean Air Act Advisory Committee for President George H.W. Bush, and the Environmental Technology Export Council for President Clinton. My goal is to inspire students and help them prepare for opportunities in the rapidly growing STEM fields. I am certified to teach Mathematics and Physics in Grades 6-12. I enjoy tutoring students in physics, all types of math, and standardized test preparation. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, writing and consulting in national policy matters.
I am a passionate teacher with 12 years of experience in elementary, middle school, high school, and university education. My philosophy is grounded on the notion that students can learn anything with the proper approach, patience, and flexibility.
I am currently entering my fourth year at Southern Methodist University where I am studying to attain a Bachelor of Science in Economics and a minor in Spanish. I have learned from professors who are professionals in their fields and many of which have had great impacts on the field of Economics. I spent the summer of 2014 living with a Spanish family in Madrid and taking classes as part of SMU's Advanced Spanish program in Madrid. I tutor a wide range of Math levels as well as Economics and Spanish. Through my experience as a student who used tutors in the past, I learned that the key to strengthening one's abilities in any subject is through practice and repetition. For this reason, my lessons emphasize the need for the students to engage themselves in order to take what they have learned in school, in the tutoring sessions, and on their own to successfully strengthen their knowledge. This will be accomplished through a lot of practice (problems, questions, grammar, vocabulary, etc) with guidance from me. In my free time, I enjoy watching and playing sports, cooking, traveling, reading, and yoga.
Although I have master's degrees in voice and also teach violin and beginner guitar, music is not my only language. I can help you with writing, editing, public speaking, or remembering material for a test. I have taught English language arts for three years and specialize in grammar and writing. I can tutor any elementary subject and most middle school subjects. In my third year of college I learned study, comprehension, and memorizing skills that I wished I had been taught in first grade! Don't wait to learn how to learn!

I'm big on active listening and asking lots of questions to determine if the student understands the material and is focused on the material for the next quiz or exam. Please let me know if you have any questions, Ned

I am fun to work with. I got bachelor degree in accounting and master degree in Finance. I consider accounting is a beautiful language. I have unique/personal ways to open your accounting world. I am also a native Chinese speaker. let me know if you want to explore and learn Chinese culture
I hold a bachelor's and master's in art history, with a concentration in early modern European art. I attended THE Ohio State University for my undergraduate degree, and attended Southern Methodist University for my master's. During my time as a master's student, I was a teaching assistant to four different undergraduate art history courses, and spent a significant amount of time teaching, grading, and holding office hours with my students. To simply put my tutoring style: I am a lover of learning. Learning new things myself, and helping others to learn, are life-affirming experiences for me. Knowledge is joyful, and powerful! I want my students to walk away from our sessions feeling similarly.I have begun tutoring for those studying the LSAT and would love to continue to take on LSAT learners. Contrary to what you have learned from major LSAT teaching companies, the LSAT is simple and straightforward: there is one correct answer, and four wrong ones. Slow reading and a careful approach to understanding every stimulus are keys to LSAT success, and I want to help you get there! After beginning at a 154, I have practiced into the 170's, and am still taking the LSAT myself to have that reflected in my actual score.I would also love to spend some of my time with my LSAT students on their admissions applications. I have received a full ride, or more, in scholarships for each degree I have received, and I can help you achieve that same financial success with your law school application. I hope to hear from you and can't wait to help you on your law school journey!
I was born and raised in Dallas and am a huge Mavericks and Rangers fan. I attended high school at The Hockaday School and received my BA from SMU. I am also a recent graduate from Indiana University Maurer School of Law.My tutoring experience began in 2003, when I decided to move to Chicago and spend a year with AmeriCorps. AmeriCorps is a lot like the Peace Corps, only volunteers stay in the US and work for a variety of independent charities and organizations. I worked for The University of Chicago Center for Urban School Improvement an initiative of the university to bolster education in some of the city's lowest achieving schools. During the school day I served as a Literacy Tutor for students in Kindergarten through 3rd grade. I also provided homework help and math and literacy tutoring for K-8 students in an after-school program. At the conclusion of the school year, I was part of a team of two tutors whose students demonstrated the most improvement of all the students in the program, and I was selected to attend the Leadership Training Seminar by the Illinois Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service. During this year I fell in love with the Windy City, the Cubs, and deep dish pizza. I also learned a lot about keeping students engaged by finding a way to help them relate to the material. I believe that the most effective teachers are those who are willing to learn from their students. Overall, it was an extremely rewarding experience. Also among my most rewarding life experiences has been the opportunity to study and travel abroad extensively. While at SMU I completed a summer session in the South-of-France and a semester in Paris. In law school, I spent a summer studying International and Comparative Law at Trinity University in Dublin, Ireland. Perhaps the most rewarding experience of all was being able to spend my final semester of law school as an exchange student at the University of Hong Kong, China. The chance to learn and study with students and faculty of diverse nationalities and cultures has been both enlightening and exciting. It truly generates appreciation for learning and the greater world community. My experience has taught me that, when it comes to education, learning isn't always confined to a classroom setting. I don't believe that superior performance on standardized tests is the most crucial part of one's educational experience, but high scores have become increasingly important across almost all grade levels. I have been fortunate enough throughout my academic career to have had good success with standardized testing. I was a National Merit Scholar and scored in the top 10% on the LSAT. Good preparation is vital for building confidence when facing intimidating exam conditions, and I believe my insight can be helpful to students wishing to improve test scores, reduce test anxiety, and raise general academic confidence.I truly enjoy working with students at all levels and from all backgrounds. I look forward to being a part of your child's academic success.

I am a Junior Accounting student at SMU motivated to help younger students reach their academic and testing potential, especially when taking the PSAT, SAT and ACT. I want to help students achieve their goals through engaging tutoring sessions tailored to the needs of each individual, and I want to give students the tools they need to succeed on their own outside of a classroom setting. In my free time I enjoy playing music and basketball, watching sports, and cooking.
I am passionate about fostering a love of learning and especially reading in students. I believe that when students are able to have fun, they learn better. I love to game-ify concepts once students are beginning to show mastery. My specialties are reading, writing, and I am a licensed dyslexia therapist.
I am an academic professional. I currently hold a research assistant position with the Chair in Marketing at SMU- Cox School of Business. I work with research data and also with students on the job. This position has inspired me to go beyond and help students attain better insights into the subjects they want to be more confident about. As a tutor, I want to assist my clients to work on their pain points and gain more control on the topic they need assistance with.
I graduated from Southern Methodist University in 2023. There, I received my Master's in Business Management and my Bachelor's in Health and Society with a minor in Psychology. I attended that prestigious academic institution on an athletic scholarship throughout my 4+ years. Since graduation, I have gone on to pursue my collegiate sport at the professional level. I am currently a full-time professional soccer player for Spokane Zephyr FC. My love for soccer will never fade, but my true passion lies in helping others in need and affecting positive change however big or small. If I can help even one student and serve as a resource to assist them in their areas of need, my day will be made! I can tutor a variety of subjects and topics, but I am most passionate about French as it is my native language. I also enjoy Math and numbers up to a certain level. Above all, I enjoy sharing and spreading knowledge and seeing students surpass themselves in ways they did not think possible. I seek to foster an enjoyable learning environment where all questions are welcomed and all needs are met. In my spare time, I like to do a little bit of everything and partake in activities that pair well with my active lifestyle. When I am not on the soccer field, you can find me outside in nature taking a stroll, reading, writing, playing basketball, binge-watching my favorite show, or cooking.
I am a graduate student studying Clinical Psychology, with a passion for helping others.I taught English abroad in china for 5 months, as well as helped special need kiddos for a school semester.I graduated with honors from my undergraduate institution with a degree in Psychology, and minors in History and Chinese.Whenever I teach students, I try to focus first on having fun and learning to love the material, and then on accuracy.
I am an avid learner and passionate advocate for the social sciences, I have always believed that understanding our world is essential for personal growth and civic engagement. My journey in social studies has been shaped by both academic pursuits and real-world experiences, which I am eager to share with students through tutoring. My academic background includes a degree in Secondary Education with a focus in Social Studies, where I explored diverse cultures, political systems, and historical events that have shaped our society. I have always been fascinated by the interconnectedness of human experiences and the lessons we can draw from the past. This curiosity has motivated me to engage deeply with topics ranging from economics and geography to sociology and government. I have taught many social studies courses including, law studies, US History, AP Macro, Government, Economics, Personal Finance and more. It is my duty as an educator to mold students into not only a stellar student but also an active and well informed citizen.
I'm working towards a B.S. in Computer Science and Mathematics at Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas. I've been tutoring since Summer 2017 when I was a wee junior in Seven Lakes High School (Katy, TX). I've tutored students in Elementary/Middle School math, Algebra, Precalculus, Chemistry, SAT Math -- I have loved every bit of it! Separate from official tutoring, I have strong experience in working with others in Computer Science (AP Classes, Java, C++, Python, JavaScript, and HTML/CSS). I believe that the secret to quality tutoring lies in challenging students' foundations. Break it down and restructure it; explore the "why" behind the procedures that teachers teach us in STEM classes every day. I ask students a lot of questions, working to make them more confident in their knowledge and become wizards in problem solving and knowledge application. Outside of tutoring, you can catch me creating websites, drawing, playing Trombone, running, playing video games, or watching YouTube.
