I am an undergraduate student at the University of Pennsylvania. I have been tutoring for over 6 years now, and I have found it to be an extremely rewarding and enjoyable experience. I specialize in mathematics, particularly at the high school level, and I also have experience tutoring other subjects. I also have done SAT prep for the mathematics section of the New SAT and am very familiar with the recent changes to the exam. My belief is that everyone is capable of learning with enough time, explanation, and practice, and I hope to pass this on to all the students I work with. For this reason, I believe in teaching students how to think and problem solve, rather than just having them memorize patterns or facts.

Language is power. We all know that the best way to communicate is through verbal and non verbal communication. Humans are understood by gestures or tone of voice and that is how we interpret our state of mind. By this, I will add that we all are receptors of languages constantly and we do get to understand the basics of language in different ways. I personally learned English listening to music and watching TV programs. Language intrigued me so much that I ended up majoring in linguistics and communication in English. My native language is Spanish and took Italian in college as a third language. I am here and more than happy to help you achieve your goals in learning a new language.

I am currently pursuing a Master's degree in computer science at Oakland University. I have also graduated with my Bachelor's degree in computer science from Oakland University. Alongside classes, I am working on a research project to design a programming language that makes machine learning accessible to everyone, even those without programming or machine learning experience.Throughout my college career, I have been fortunate to have several professors who have made me excited to learn about programming and computer science. This has fueled my passion for teaching others. The satisfaction that comes from writing a successful program is wonderful, and I wish to spread that feeling to others. My teaching style is centered around understanding why we would want to do something in the first place. I find that learning and deeply understanding things is much easier when we understand why it is we are learning it. I aim to teach practical skills for programming and computer science.

I am a graduate of SUNY University at Albany. I received my Bachelor of Science in Economics and Japanese with a minor in History in 2010. Since then (and even before as a sub) I have predominantly been teaching in the New York City public education system. I had worked as a substitute teaching assistant since 2008, moving between dozens of NYC public schools before finally settling in late 2011 at M.S. 216 George J. Ryan--an incredibly diverse middle school in Queens. During my tenure in the school system I have spent time teaching students from Pre-K to 12th grade, from all cultural background and socioeconomic statuses. Regardless of whom I have taught, I have always enjoyed it, partly because I often learn as much from my students as they learn from me. Regardless of the subject, I love teaching, and I find it to be one of the most rewarding and meaningful activities, which cliched as it may sound, really can make a difference in people's lives. Besides teaching, I am also keenly interested in the human body, specifically biomechanics, kinesiology, and rehabilitation through movement. I am currently enrolled in a Doctorate of Physical Therapy program at Washington University in St. Louis, which I should finish in 2018.I started tutoring in 2012, when I went back to school (Queens College) in order to take all the necessary pre-med courses for my DPT program. My first tutoring experience was with struggling peers in Biology, Chemistry, and Anatomy and Physiology. I dove into test-prep tutoring following my own experience preparing for the GRE, hoping to pass on some of the hard-won skills and knowledge. Currently I tutor a wide-array of subjects, though in particular I love teaching standardized tests like the SAT and ACT, as well as the sciences and math. Besides my interest in these areas, there is a particular joy watching a student hit their score mark in a test and seeing their hard work pay off. And when I hear back several months later about my students getting into their top choice for college, it always makes my day. When I'm not teaching or studying, I compulsively read, learn languages (currently working on Mandarin), practice gymnastics, and obsess over food.

I graduated from University of Texas at Dallas (UTD), with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. I have always enjoyed math, science (mostly physics), and logic puzzles. To me, math a type of logic puzzle. I like seeing the patterns in math and using these patterns to work towards the solution. I like knowing that there is an answer to every problem and that there are multiple ways to get the same correct answer. I am passionate about helping students because I enjoy the learning process. I feel quite good after helping a student expand their understanding. I like to see when they transition from not knowing what to do, to confidently solving the problem correctly on their own.I have worked with a variety of different students. I have worked with sixth graders struggling with fractions, helped someone understand the concept of negative numbers, high school students with pre-calculus and helped someone with college algebra. I have helped these students to understand the math they were working on. I gained valuable experience in explaining the concepts in different ways and using real examples to better demonstrate how the concept works.I tutor middle school math, high school math, calculus 1 and 2, and physics and some lower level mechanical engineering. More specifically, my math subjects include: Algebra 1 & 2, AP Calculus AB & BC, AP Statistics, Calculus 1 & 2, Geometry, GRE Quantitative, Pre-Algebra, Pre-Calculus, and SAT Math. Of all of these subjects, my favorite to tutor is Geometry. Tutoring Geometry is my favorite because of all the visual and logical thinking needed in order to solve the problem. My teaching philosophy and tutoring style revolve around making sure the student understands the concept. I like teaching the thought process so that students are able to succeed without memorizing too many things. I also think that schools typically make a stressful environment, which can inhibit learning. I am a laid-back person and keep the tutoring sessions as low stress as possible. As you may have guessed, I am somewhat of a typical nerd. My nerdiness is not only shown in my love for logic and math, but also in my free time where I enjoy playing strategy board games with my friends and family. I also enjoy playing computer games, including primarily: Rocket League, Hearthstone, and League of Legends.
