I am originally from sunny San Diego, California. Back in high school I was a tri-sport athlete playing volleyball, basketball and track for my school. My Senior year I was named the Female Scholar Athlete of the Year.I moved to Texas about four years ago to attend college, where I continued my passion for playing sports. I was a college athlete, playing both volleyball and running track. Furthermore, I was a SCAC Student Athlete and either on Honor Roll or Dean's List every semester in my undergraduate career. I double majored in college, earning my B.A. in both Psychology and Spanish from the University of Dallas. I am currently attending the University of Houston to pursue my Masters degree and (hopefully) my Doctorate in Counseling Psychology. In my spare time, I like to play guitar, and I am currently looking into finding a Krav Maga studio near me so I can start taking that again. Also, I love to play with my little 5 pound puppy, Teagan.

I've had experience tutoring at Kumon Learning Center where I had to engage and encourage multiple students - whose ages ranged from 3 to 15 - at a time. I spent two years tutoring SAT Verbal, Writing and Reading Comp strategies at Karen Dillard's College Prep. I also privately tutored my peers in Spanish while I was an undergraduate at the University of Dallas. One-on-one tutoring provides students with an opportunity to receive the extra instruction and attention that they don't always receive in a classroom setting. There is nothing more frustrating than struggling to understand new concepts and new materials that everyone in your class already understands. As a former Spanish major in a classroom full of native Spanish-speakers, I absolutely can relate to this feeling. As a tutor I make my sessions something the student looks forward to and doesn't dread. I am charismatic and approachable, and I make sure that the student feels comfortable asking questions or for further clarification, and that he or she feels comfortable making mistakes. I am an avid believer in positive reinforcement. Maintaining the student's attention and enthusiasm is a priority for making my tutoring sessions effective and fruitful.

I truly enjoy meeting new people and the conversations that unfold when making new friendships. I have traveled all over Europe, including most of France and Spain. It is my love of travel, different cultures, and meeting new people that keeps my life interesting. My travel began in high school, when I stayed with host families in France, families with whom I still communicate today (more than 10 years later). Then during one of my semesters at the University of Dallas, I studied in Rome, Italy. It was after finishing college that I spent 7 months in France as a teachers' assistant, allowing me to travel much of Europe during school breaks. It was also this job which sparked my interest in teaching. I have taught French in public schools for 5 years, which is the perfect job for me, as each year brings new students to meet and new families to get to know. I find that I enjoy learning as much from my students as I enjoy teaching French to them. I have also taught ESL to adults in a community college, which was wonderful because the students came from a great variety of cultures and countries, and it was language that brought us together. I now live back in Houston with my husband and 2 daughters, after having lived all over Texas (and being born in Houston). I have many interests, including speaking other languages, cooking, singing, playing the piano, visiting all cultural places and restaurants in the city, and of course traveling, to name just a few.

I homeschooled for my whole education up to college, which allowed me to finish Calculus III before graduating high school. Currently, I attend University of Dallas, where I am studying for a math/science degree.I tutor for all middle and high school math, as well as for standardized tests like the ACT and SAT. I am very patient, and I enjoy working with students. When I tutor a student, I try to discover the root of the problem, usually a misunderstood or inadequately explained concept. Once I find the problem area, I can explain it as clearly and as simply as possible. If the student doesn't "get" the explanation the first time, I am willing to spend as much time on the concept as the student needs. In my spare time, I enjoy playing the piano, making and playing video games, and spending time with my friends (often to discuss geeky subjects). If I sound like a good fit for you, or if you want to know more, I encourage you to contact me.

Hi! I am a seasoned educator and tutor with a Ph.D. in Literature, an M.A. in Literature, and an M.B.A. in international business. I have taught many, many students to write, read, speak, and think academically. Since 2005, I have worked taught in universities in China, Bosnia, the UAE, Afghanistan and Bahrain (teaching our troops!) and Cambodia. I recently returned to the USA. If you are feeling uncertain about your writing assignments, your English or Literature courses, public speaking, or standardized testing, I believe I can help! No one is born with the ability to read, think critically, and write an essay that will get people to stand up and take notice. These are skills that everyone must be taught to become successful, and they can be learned. Students often think they 'just aren't capable' of improving their skills, but as a professional who specializes in English and Writing, I know they are wrong. Every student, with the right motivation, systems, and tools can improve their skills. I have been teaching and tutoring students for over 20 years. As a professor, I know what steps students need to take to become better in writing, reading, literature, critical thinking, and public speaking. As a faculty member at universities and colleges for over 20 years, I know what will be expected of students both in educational settings, and in the professional world after they graduate. I love to work with students, and I have had a great deal of success in helping them to improve. I have developed proven methods to give students the help they need to write better essays, read with greater comprehension, and test more effectively. Most students tell me that I am funny, and that my lessons are far less 'painful than they expect them to be! I look forward to working with you-

I am very passionate about helping students because of the satisfaction I get seeing that "click" go on inside their heads. The first time I tutored, I was in high school, where I was both the leader of the peer tutoring group and a 1-1 peer tutor myself. When I was a leader, I taught the other peer tutors a way to not simply tell them the answer, but to always help students come to their own answers. This is exactly what I did in my own 1-1 sessions, and I saw my student's grades go from F's to A's.I received my high school education at GreatHearts Academies. They offer a liberal arts education that prioritizes the same philosophy that I implemented. The University that I am currently attending is University of Dallas, which I picked because they had similar philosophy to my high school. At the moment, I am an undergraduate Army ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) working towards my Biochemistry degree (Bachelors of Science), and my overall goal is to become an Army Physician. The subjects that I am tutoring are math (up to Calculus 1), Chemistry (up to Organic chemistry 2), and Physics (up to General Physics 1). My favorite of the three is by far organic chemistry. When I was little, I loved playing chess and the puzzle that always came with it. In organic chemistry, I saw the whole subject as one giant puzzle. I used to love to solve all these puzzles that it had to offer, and it quickly became my favorite class. With math, I like it for the same reason. Math always came easy to me. This was the subject I tutored that transformed my 1-1 student's grades from high school from F's to A's.Outside of school, I'm really into working out. I love to get with some friends lifting heavy weights or running. I love the feeling of getting into the gym, where we would all encourage each other to go for higher weights or better times. Some of my best memories are exactly that.Overall, I am confident any student who works with me will improve. I will make sure to work on each student in the best way that works for them. My goal as a tutor is to make sure that the student accomplishes their goal.Thank you.

I believe in being a life long learner. I believe there are no boring subjects, simply less entertaining ways to teach and learn them. I am passionate about everything I do, and I am especially excited about Literature and Writing. I think the power of language should never be underestimated, and if you can express yourself well, you not only grow in knowledge, you can also truly affect the world. Teaching has been my passion long before it became a profession six years ago, and I love it every day.
