I am a graduate of Our Lady of the Lake University, where I received a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and a Biliterate Degree in Spanish. During my studies there, I worked part-time as a Business and Spanish tutor, and I also assisted students reviewing essay grammar and style. Tutoring was always the favorite part of my day because my goal each time was for the students to leave feeling more confident in their subject matter and with a smile. As a former student athlete, I am quite too familiar that struggles in the classroom can be due to external events. That is why my style of tutoring is holistic. Since I care about the well-being of my clients, I make it a point to be personable and to offer suggestions to improve academic performance. With Varsity Tutors, I am excited to have the opportunity of tutoring the following subjects: Accounting, Writing, and Math. Currently, I am a graduate student pursuing a Master of Professional Accountancy at the University of Texas and a CPA license. Occasionally, I play soccer and I strive for a new hiking adventure every weekend.

I am a second generation latina who is currently pursuing her Master of Science in Psychology with a specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy. Since obtaining my undergraduate degrees, I have traveled somewhat extensively, as the prospect of meeting/working with a diverse group of people from all walks of life is one of my many motivations. While I tutor various subjects, I am most passionate about History, Reading, and Writing. I also am a firm proponent of education, believing it to be the best way we can invest in ourselves and future, and I try to relay this appreciation to all past and future students. In my free time, I enjoy going on walks with my dog, meditation, and reading.
Hello, I grew up speaking both English and Spanish. I attended Our Lady of the Lake University, in San Antonio, Texas. I earned a Master's Degree in Social Work, specializing in serving Hispanic children and families. However, I have worked in both private and public schools as a high school Spanish teacher as well as many years as an ESL teacher in public schools. .
My educational philosophy is to motivate every student to learn mathematics in their own way. Many students have animosity towards mathematics, where they feel they cannot learn the subject or cannot see the application in different disciplines. I want to inspire and motivate students in their own independent learning of mathematics in order to build their self confidence in the subject. What I love about teaching mathematics is the diversity in the subject. I want to teach mathematics in a tangible way by providing various learning styles and incorporating technology. I believe it is important to teach mathematics in a very concrete, tactile way where students are able to use manipulatives to first understand the concept, then move to more abstract mathematics where students use their critical thinking skills to find a result.I want to create a safe learning environment where students feel safe to share their ideas, without being criticized. In providing this environment, students will become leaders in their own learning by participating in the lesson and using their learning style in using different strategies to various mathematical concepts. I also want my students to be able to use their leadership skills to be able to help other students in order to strengthen their own knowledge and build community in the classroom.Overall, I want to see my future students succeed in any of their endeavors whether it be continuing in higher education, joining the military, or starting the work force without the fear of mathematics hindering them. Through teaching mathematics in various styles, I hope for students to see mathematics as more then memorization and formulas, and build the appropriate critical thinking skills that they can apply in other subjects and disciplines they may face.
I love teaching and I have over 10 years of experience working with children. I am constantly reading and trying to stay on top of the latest strategies and information in education. The grades I am interested in help growing are Kindergarten through 2nd grade. These grades are my passion. I am currently a Kindergarten teacher at a charter school. I have a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood to 6th grade and a master's degree in the Art of Teaching. I believe that each child is a unique individual, who needs a secure, caring and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically and socially. It is my desire as an educator to help students meet their fullest potential in these areas by providing an environment that is safe and invites a sharing of ideas. I want to provide students access to hands-on activities and allow adequate time and space to use materials that will reinforce the lesson being studied and create an opportunity for individual discovery and construction of knowledge to occur. Developing a curriculum around student interests fosters motivation and stimulates the passion to learn. My instruction must be differentiated to provide enough challenge and support for all children to build on successfully and to develop positive attitudes about learning. Teaching provides an opportunity for continual learning and growth. One of my hopes as an educator is to instill a love of learning in my students, as I share my own passion for learning with them. I feel there is a need for compassionate, strong and dedicated individuals who are excited about working with children.
