Since I have been awarded the degree of Masters of Science in Math Education from Prairie View A&M and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Mathematics Education from Texas A&M University, I fully understand the commitment to and importance of education and closing achievement gaps.During my entire career in education, I was given many opportunities. I served as Mathematics/Science Education instructor on the post secondary level, did consulting specializing in supplemental education solutions for Mathematics, Science, and STEM, taught and tutored within schools, and lead a district charter managing multiple campuses.Although my work experience has been mostly face to face, with groups of dynamic teachers, passionate principals, and students that are sponges for content, I am looking to expand the populations I serve. I would like to reach more groups and individuals that are equally dynamic, passionate and tenacious.

My life's work has been focused on helping young people in a variety of ways: parenting, volunteering, coaching, teaching, and tutoring to name a few. I believe that knowledge is power and grit is necessary to succeed.Reading and writing are necessary life skills that provide the foundation for learning everything; sometimes a person has to work a little bit more to learn these skills or to boost his/her confidence. Tutoring provides the opportunity to inspire and encourage the love of reading/writing and to demonstrate how these skills open doors to opportunities. Sometimes a simple review of a grammar skill is all it takes or maybe a new reading strategy helps move information from short term to long term memory. I firmly believe that good readers become great writers. It's important to engage students by making personal connections, pique their curiosity, and challenge them to be "doers and problem solvers". The best part of tutoring is that I can provide a caring, supportive environment in which students can take risks to achieve success. It's important that students believe in their ability to improve over time. My experience in education has been based on having a growth mindset: we are all green and growing! An easy way to "see" more about some of my philosophy regarding teaching and tutoring, here is a link to a video that was made about me when I was awarded a 2018 Teacher of the Year by Cypress Fairbanks ISD https://youtu.be/RdWvOxsfsbo.With eighteen years in education as a certified teacher of reading and writing, my excellent literacy skills coupled with as many years of experience tutoring students in grades 6 8 demonstrate my commitment to middle schoolers, but I also recently completed my TESOL/TESL/TEFEL certification in order to help all ages of people who are hoping to improve their English skills.Currently, my favorite subject to tutor would be writing because I love grammar! Grammar reminds me of math in the way that (sometimes) you can learn it by using a formula OR memorizing a rule which can be readily applied.I graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Arts in English and obtained my Texas Teaching Certification to teach grades 4 8. As mentioned above, I completed my TESOL/TESL/TEFEL certification in September of 2020. I enjoy Aggie football games, reading, puzzles of all kinds, playing and watching tennis, walking, and hiking. But, most of all, I love traveling and have been fortunate to experience many different cultures!

I am a patient and supportive tutor who believes every student can succeed when concepts are explained in a way that makes sense to them. I have experience providing one on one instruction and understand that each student learns differently, so I adjust my teaching style to fit their pace and needs. My approach focuses on building strong foundations, breaking down challenging topics step by step, and helping students gain confidence in their abilities. I create a calm and encouraging learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes as part of the learning process. I have worked with students both privately and in an educational institute setting, and I enjoy helping them improve not only their academic skills but also their confidence and independence as learners. My goal is to make learning clear, manageable, and rewarding for every student I work with.

I am a graduate of Texas A& M University with a BS and MS in Chemistry. In the pursuit of my BS in Chemistry I became interested in teaching high school. I had a great experience in high school with some great science teachers who loved their craft and science. Instead of getting certified as a science teacher after my BS I decided to obtain my Masters degree and at the same time work on my Texas Certification in Science. I taught undergraduate labs in grad school which was valuable teaching experience. After completing both programs, I began my first teaching assignment in a small rural school in Texas. It offered me the opportunity to teach Chemistry which was my passion. I also taught Physics and Physical Science. I taught for two years and left teaching reluctantly for eight years to work as a chemist. The experience of real-world chemistry was invaluable but I wanted to return to teaching. I moved from a rural area outside of Houston into the inner city and took a position as a Physical Science teacher in the high school in my neighborhood. After I taught Physical Science for two years, I was given the opportunity to teach chemistry and a few years later Chemistry and Physics with primarily Honors students in both subjects. Teaching these talented and motivated 11th and 12th grade students was my ideal job which I poured myself into every day. We started a science club at our school and students loved learning and exploring science on field experiences ranging from weekend camping trips, beach cleanups and Texas Medical Center visits. I loved seeing my inner-city students become totally engaged learning science informally often outside of the city which many of them had not ventured much. My teaching philosophy is that every student can learn and master with understanding the chemistry or physics content we were studying. I see my role even today as not the wise dispenser of science concepts but rather a facilitator in my students learning journey to mastery. My best teaching is done when I am working one on one with my students in guided practice time or after school or Saturdays. My classroom was always open after school and my students had my cell number to ask for help whenever they got stuck at home. I usually had an average 5 to 10 students after school or on Saturdays. As the AP Science program evolved at my school, I began to teach AP Physics B or 1 (Algebra Based) and AP Physics C Mechanics (Calculus Based). These classes were challenging for all of my students but I saw them as an opportunity to even better prepare my students for the Physics and science they would face in college. My students rose to the challenge and as my classroom and the courses moved from the traditional lecture/lab experience to more inquiry-based instruction I saw my students grow and excel in Physics. Science Fair and projects were also a big part of my teaching. After 34 years at the same high school in Houston I decided to retire to spend more quality time with Janet, the love of my life. I miss learning along with my students today and in a limited basis I see this tutoring role an opportunity to help students learn science. I love traveling with Janet and certainly enjoy our cat family which keep us occupied and sometimes rolling in laughter.

I am a first-year student at Texas A&M University, working towards a major in biology and a minor in computer science on a pre-medicine track. My career aspirations drive me to love learning science and math, and I have taken a wealth of such courses in high school and college, ending with top grades in all of them. I have been tutoring friends around me in various science and math subjects for years, and I wish to make a lasting impact by tutoring those outside of my circle. I value being able to effectively communicate with others and hope to facilitate interactions on a student-student level, being a college student myself. Learning does not come from gaining answers but by finding them yourself, which is why I have students actively participate in solving all sorts of problems. Every student has their own unique way of learning different concepts, and a good teacher must help them discover what it is. One of the greatest feelings hits you when your tutee feels confident about a topic in which they used to feel lost. Outside of my academics, I am a member of the student-run emergency care team on campus. I also love getting involved in various cultural activities and events.

I've now taught AP courses, CTE courses, and even Elementary programming courses in a wide range of languages. I'm a PhD Candidate at Texas A&M University, Department of Agricultural Economics. I'm expected to complete my doctoral degree in August 2022. In the beginning of doctoral journey I acted as a teaching assistant, teaching small groups, grading papers, and providing office hours. At the beginning of 2020 I was given the opportunity to act as primary instructor of a course - and taught AGEC 317 (introductory stats/regression analysis) to students for five semesters. This included sudden adjustments to my curriculum due to COVID-19 and University Regulations.I believe a core element of teaching is being engaging. Students who care, learn. Tutoring will offer me opportunities to ask students what interests them and analyze results based on those examples.

I love to learn, which makes me love to teach even more! I want us to learn and engage together as we explore subjects in fun ways to increase learning and get excited together! I believe that learning means getting hands-on, and we are all always learning. Being inquisitive helps us figure things out, and we can learn through real world examples that help us really understand what we are learning in the classroom!
