I am a huge component of constant feedback. A session may be wasted if feedback is only provided in the last five minutes. For this reason, I would help students stay motivated by maintaining a conversation over the material and relating to other interesting aspects of their life. Hobbies: books, reading, writing, music, art, sports

I am able to determine what obstacles are preventing a student from grasping a concept, and create different means of overcoming those obstacles. Creating a partnership with the student and understanding what he or she needs to overcome is what makes me a great tutor.

I am an undergraduate at Rice University, and my favorite subjects to tutor are math and science. I also enjoy doing test prep, and my experience comes from helping fellow students in high school. One of the most important aspects of tutoring is fitting the teaching style to each student. One method that works great for one student may not work well for another. Tutoring is all about coming up with different ways for my students to understand the material. If my student is not interested in the subject we are learning, I will try to find a way to tie in their interests and passions into the subject to better engage them. I want to be there for my students, not only as a tutor, but also as a friend. In addition to my interests in math and science (and learning in general), I enjoy swimming, biking, reading, and cooking. I also believe that fostering curiosity and determination are the keys to success. Hobbies: art, books, reading, cooking, music, swimming, writing

I am a graduate from Stanford University. I received my Bachelor's in Economics there and continued to receive a certificate in Full Stack Web Development from the University of Texas Austin. I have tutored intermittently, primarily teaching test prep; however, I have at different points taught most everything. Here in the Houston area, I've worked with Testmasters, C2 Education and Test Geek. I implement the Socratic Method into my teaching style: I ask plenty of questions that force students to deeply understand the material and to explain how they know why their answer is correct or not. I also believe it is my duty to equip students with tools to become better learners themselves which entails welcoming unique and creative approaches to solving problems, encouraging students to connect the relationships between different topics and subjects, and recommending using external sources and materials to learn and supplement understanding. Hobbies: art, travel, sports, reading, writing, books, traveling, music

I am a multi-subject polymath with great and depth in what I teach who always places the needs, desires and dreams of students first. A Lifelong Scholar focused on Excellence, my praxis seeks to empower those I I teach by infecting them with passion for critical thinking and awakening and nurturing their "I know I can! Let's do it!" energies. Comfortable with technology, I strive to continually improve teaching and learning processes so my tutees become adept at turning information into knowledge. Champion, then, of scholars' growth both individually and communally/collaboratively, I guide them to learn where, when, how and why to take control individually and when to trust the team. At the core of my methodology is the ability to listen: My students, then, can become adepts at PEARLS (Partnership, Empathy, Apology/Acknowledgment, Respect, Legitimation, and Support), not only "listening to" but "hearing" interlocutors in this increasingly multi-vocal/valent world. Consequently equitable, suitable, ethical and sustainable solutions with clear benefits for all stakeholders in the learning transaction can emerge. And because "we" this includes me the Champion and Guide willingly created this result, "we/they" willingly accept and acknowledge the outcome, willingly "owning it." It is "our buck."

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, Varsity Tutors connects students from across Colleyville's 13 schools with personalized 1-on-1 instruction. Whether your student attends a school in the Colleyville area or nearby districts, we can match them with a tutor who understands local curriculum standards and can support their specific academic goals.
Personalized tutoring addresses gaps in foundational skills while keeping pace with Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) standards. Tutors work one-on-one with students to master grade-level content, prepare for state assessments like STAAR, and build confidence in core subjects—all tailored to each student's learning pace and style.
With an average student-teacher ratio of 13.4:1 in Colleyville schools, classroom teachers often have limited time for individualized attention. Personalized 1-on-1 instruction fills that gap, allowing tutors to focus entirely on your student's specific challenges, learning style, and academic growth without classroom distractions.
Students in Colleyville commonly seek help with math, reading comprehension, and science—subjects that build foundational skills for success in upper grades. We also support students preparing for standardized tests, working through challenging coursework, and building confidence in subjects where they're struggling to keep up with classroom pace.
The first session is an opportunity for the tutor to understand your student's academic strengths, challenges, and learning style. They'll assess current skill levels, discuss specific goals, and create a personalized plan tailored to your student's needs—whether that's catching up, staying ahead, or preparing for a specific test or assignment.
Absolutely. Many students benefit from tutoring that runs alongside classroom learning, helping them master material at their own pace before or after lessons. A tutor can preview upcoming topics, reinforce concepts taught in class, or break down challenging material into smaller, more manageable steps—all customized to your student's speed of learning.
Tutors can work with students across multiple subjects or focus deeply on one area, depending on your student's needs. Whether your student needs comprehensive homework help across several classes or specialized support in a single challenging subject, Varsity Tutors can match them with someone who fits their specific situation.
Simply tell us about your student's academic needs, grade level, and goals. Varsity Tutors will connect you with qualified tutors who are available to work with students in Colleyville. You'll be able to discuss your student's situation with potential tutors and choose the best fit for your family.
