I have just graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Master's and Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering! I love teaching because nothing else rivals the experience of seeing a student overcome obstacles to succeed. Whether it’s helping an autistic seven-year-old learn to play with other children or helping a high school freshman learn to make a solid argument, I value the impact I make on others through teaching. I began my professional life as a tutor six years ago, and have taught a variety of subjects, including time management, reading, writing, history and SAT and AP preparation. In lessons, I focus on teaching my students how to learn efficiently and think critically. My students don’t just master the information they need to learn: I teach them to become better workers and thinkers.

I recently graduated from the University of Virginia as a biomedical engineering major. I love math and science, mostly because I had some really great teachers who made these subjects fun for me. While at UVA, I had the opportunity to tutor a high school student in algebra, and I liked the experience so much that I now want to tutor even more! In addition to lots of math and science classes, I can also help with test prep, especially for the SAT, ACT, and GRE. When there are gaps in the background knowledge, I help to fill those in. I tutor Spanish at all levels. I studied Spanish and Portuguese at Brigham Young University. I have a BA in Spanish with a Portuguese minor. My Spanish evaluation upon graduation was "advanced high." This is one level below native. I do not have an foreign accent in Spanish or Portuguese (Brazilian). I taught at a language learning center working with 19 to 21 year olds. I have also taught Spanish as a long term substitute. I lived in the Dominican Republic for 2 years over two separate occasions. I have over 20 experience speaking Spanish. When teaching, I focus on helping students understand concepts that can be difficult grasp (i.e. subjunctive, pretreat vs. imperfect). The language is much easier to grasp when the student understands the "why" of a concept.I also studied law at Washburn University School of Law. I am a licensed attorney. Teaching Spanish is something that I really enjoy because I understand the process and it is rewarding to help people get over the conceptual humps along the way to fluency.

I am a graduate of the Johns Hopkins University with a major in Behavioral Biology. I am seeking admission to MD/PhD programs so a lot of my time has been spent in the lab, from a computational neuroscience lab at Hopkins to a genome editing lab at Rice. That being said, I have extensive experience tutoring for the ACT (35) and MCAT (516), both privately and contractually. I aim to get students the score of their dreams.
