I am Tegan, an undergraduate at Rice University majoring in Biosciences on the pre-med track. Throughout high school and college, I have realized that the key to a successful academic career is having educators that are truly invested in a student's education. Enthusiastic instructors created exciting and engaging lessons which led to more motivated students. With my experience tutoring middle school students and adult ESL learners, I aimed to be patient with student concerns and hold a positive attitude while teaching, embodying the supportive culture I thrived in. I'm originally from Dallas, Texas. I'm currently a freshman at Rice University studying Neuroscience and Psychology on the premed track. I am incredibly passionate about learning; my favorite subjects are science and history. I've tutored high school biology, middle school science, English, and math, as well as elementary school English, science, and math in the past. The flight simulation experience also involved frequent use of computer languages such as Ada, C, C++ and less frequent use of other computer languages such as python and java. Tutoring was part of the engineering environment as new engineers were assigned to my group. I earned extra money during my college years tutoring. Though money is not the end objective since retirement, I enjoy tutoring to remain active and challenged. The interaction with students is invigorating. Tutoring gives me a sense of contributing to the well-being of others. It is offering up my skills to help others get a strong start on a career. My tutoring style is to explain principles and possibly do a sample problem, but then observe the student apply the principles to work a problem, gently nudging them in the right direction. I prefer to tutor math and physics, but will not shy away from computer languages and other science applications.
