I like learning anything new and enjoy reading, but I'm not fond of school. I made good grades only when the subject interested me. However, I have always done very, very well on standardized tests, probably because I read so much. I was a National Merit finalist and my LSAT score was in the 99th percentile. In today's system, that is about a 174. I attended law school at the University of Houston, graduated, passed the Texas bar with a decent score of 83, and practiced law for a long time. I quit practicing law when I moved to a small town in Central Texas. I began tutoring about a few years ago and discovered that I truly enjoy the intellectual challenge of tutoring and the opportunity to interact with a lot of bright, hard-working students. I had never tutored or taught before, so I read lots of study guides and picked out suggestions and tactics that made sense to me. I look for multiple ways to illustrate concepts because everyone understands information differently. My work with students is based on my experience, what I have studied, and feedback from my students. I think that tackling a problem directly is usually faster than looking for a trick or shortcut. I also help students with their applications and enjoy tutoring in writing and similar topics.

I am a science writer and podcaster with a rigorous academic background who is passionate about sharing my knowledge of chemistry with curious minds. I earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry and Asian art history from UC Berkeley and completed a PhD in inorganic chemistry at MIT. I have five years of experience teaching college-level general and organic chemistry courses at various institutions in California, Massachusetts, New York, and Texas, and hope to expand on my experience as a private tutor. Often a required subject for other classes, chemistry is often considered "the central science" as it's related to biology and physics, and I appreciate that chemical principles can be observed throughout daily life from cooking to medicine to electronics. I believe that education is the world's greatest social equalizer and hope that my students learn to make new connections between classes and other aspects of their life. Outside of science, I love dogs, food, and the outdoors.

I am a graduate of Rice University with a Bachelor of Science in Physics, a Bachelors of Arts in Philosophy, and a minor in Neuroscience. My previous tutoring experiences have primarily focused on college level physics, math, and chemistry; AP Calculus, AP Physics, and AP Chemistry; the ACT and SAT college entrance exams; general mathematics at the high school level; and middle school level math and english for state standardized testing. Additionally, I have experience working with students with learning differences including dyslexia, ADHD, and ASD. As someone who loves learning, I am a firm believer in making our meetings enjoyable as well as educational. STEM subjects in particular have the reputation for being boring and complicated, but I love that as a tutor I can help students make sense of the topics and find the fun!

I'm a mechanical engineer, educated at MIT and Stanford. Previously, I have worked as a design engineer in the medical device design field. I like being able to help someone figure out how to make something work--to help them accomplish something they're struggling with. I love the 'I get it now' moment that comes from when a tutoring session has been successful.

Math has been my passion ever since high school - from earning 1st place nationally in Calculus and Linear Algebra, to competing on the AMC 10, AMC 12, and AIME exams. At Princeton, I tutored peers in Multivariable Calculus, and since then I've worked with middle school through college students in Geometry, Precalculus, Trigonometry, Calculus, and SAT/GRE quantitative prep. I'm dedicated to simplifying complex ideas and helping students build confidence in their own problem-solving skills! I also built my first artificial intelligence tool in 2018, and currently enjoy helping integrate LLMs and Agents for companies!

I've worked with students across many stages, from high schoolers preparing for the SAT/ACT, to applicants refining personal statements for college and medical school, to medical students tackling board exams. In each of these settings, my goal remains the same: to help students not just learn material but learn how to learn. My teaching philosophy is built on the belief that success doesn't depend on being naturally gifted, it comes from consistency, structure, and a willingness to improve. I work with students to develop individualized study plans, set achievable milestones, and build momentum. I focus on helping students become confident learners who can approach problems with clarity and strategy. Especially in standardized test prep, I emphasize the importance of going into each question with a plan of attack. Whether it's reading comprehension, a science passage, or a medical vignette, I teach students how to prioritize information, filter out distractions, and apply what they know efficiently. Test-taking is a skill, and through consistent practice, students can go from feeling overwhelmed to feeling in control. I'm especially passionate about tutoring subjects that require strategic thinking, like exam prep, because it allows me to show students how much of academic success is not about memorizing facts, but about mastering the process. My ultimate goal is to help students become independent, confident thinkers who can take these skills beyond any one test or class.
