The student had some language arts "book reviews" to write. They were pretty formulaic, so we went through each and worked on expanding the details regarding why she would/would not recommend the book to someone.

The student has incredible enthusiasm and is always a pleasure to work with. She still talks fast and some ideas need to be repeated a few times to register, but our meetings are very productive. She has an exam this week and we will meet again on Sunday.

Tutoring review by Kori in Oceanport, NJ
The student had completed the first six problems, so we first checked those solutions. During the session, I completed 14 of the 16 problems with her, learning about graphing lines and reviewing concepts such as areas of shapes and the properties of similar triangles. We will complete the remaining two problems during our next session.

Tutoring review by James in Oceanport, NJ
We started the session with a quiz on fraction operations, which was a struggle for the student. We had to review the concepts of lowest common denominators as well as addition/ subtraction with negative numbers. I showed him the appropriate process and then had him use the calculator to verify the result. I think it helped refresh his memory of these key concepts. Then we did some additional problems on the material that was covered during this week's homework. He did much better on these topics compared to the quiz on the fraction operations. The one question he missed involved multiplication tables and the other involved reading the question thoroughly. I reminded him that he needs to read the questions, think about how to solve the problem, complete the problem, and then re-check his work. Finally, we spent some time discussing organizational skills.

Tutoring review by Farah in Oceanport, NJ
The student and I got a lot of work done today! We went through the spelling rules and phonograms, and then she completed list J-1 in cursive. For grammar, we completed all of Lesson 17-2, including classifying sentences and 2 topic sentence activities. In math, I introduced telling time on analog clocks. We began by laying out where the hour hand and numbers on the clock face are located. In science, she and I read pages 90-92 on comets and wrote two sentences about what she learned in her book. We had a very productive day today.
