We finished studying for the student's midterm today.  He asked great questions and had a good idea of what he needed to focus on most.  He was well-prepared when I left but still wanted to create his own study sheet.  I was very happy with his dedication.  He will undoubtedly do well on his exam.

Tutoring review by Herman in Manhasset, NY
We spent an hour and a half going establishing his calculus level, and were not able to touch on physics for very much time. We initially went over derivatives and integrals, but I soon determined that the student needed a better grounding in more basic mathematical concepts, such as trig functions and adding fractions. By the end I was able to help him along with integrating functions. Although I was able to get some concepts through to him, and he seemed receptive to and appreciative of my efforts, we will need to cover a lot more ground. I will give him a diagnostic test in the meantime and try to get a handle on his physics knowledge for next time.

The student & I went over section 3.4 and reviewed for his exam tomorrow.  He seems to understand the concept of limit and 1st derivative, tangent and secant lines much much better than our last session.  He will contact me whenever he wants to meet again.

The student and I reviewed the product-to-sum and sum-to-product trig identities and solved problem sets for both of those. Additionally, we reviewed some of the problems that involved solving inverse trig functions for exact values using the double or half angle identities. We are scheduled to meet again next Saturday.
