Boost Your SAT Math Score
The SAT Math section is divided into two subsections, only one of which allows the use of a calculator. Many students assume that the calculator section must be easier because you can use a calculator, but it's easy to fall into the trap of fiddling with it when you don't necessarily need to.
Your SAT Math tutor can show you when you need to use it and how to do so as efficiently as possible, helping you make the most of the time available to you. Your instructor can also teach you how to eliminate some of the incorrect answers if you are ever unsure of the correct response, raising the efficacy of any guesses you take.
Best Ways To Prep For SAT Math
We know that there are a lot of test prep options on the market, but a live instructor is the best resource available. Studying on your own leaves you with no recourse if you have a question about quantitative problem-solving or understanding mathematical expressions, potentially hurting your self-confidence.
Software-based solutions can provide some help, but they do not include any ability to go beyond their prescribed curriculum. In contrast, a private SAT Math tutor can adjust study sessions based on how you're doing. If you grasp a concept immediately, your instructor can shift gears to something else. If you need more help, your instructor can provide fresh explanations and examples until you're comfortable moving on.
How much does an SAT Math tutor cost?
The price of formal SAT Math tutoring depends on several different variables, including how often you wish to meet your instructor and the specific concepts you want to review. For instance, you may be charged a different rate if you utilize our Instant Tutoring service to connect with an instructor immediately than you would be for regular review every Sunday afternoon.
We can also enroll you in our SAT Math class or set you up with group tutoring if you're looking for a more affordable option. Reach out to one of our friendly Educational Directors if you have any questions about the options available to you.
How do I choose an SAT Math tutor?
Most high school students are simply too busy to do the research required to locate a great private tutor. Thankfully, Varsity Tutors handles all of the legwork that goes into the process so you don't need to.

If you are looking for SAT Math tutoring, Varsity Tutors would be happy to connect you with a private SAT Math tutor to support you as you reach for your educational goals. At Varsity Tutors, we strive to match you with the right instructors to assist you in working towards academic success.
The SAT is a standardized exam generally taken by high school juniors and seniors as part of the undergraduate application process. The SAT is accepted by all US colleges and universities. Admissions offices base their decision on your SAT score, high school GPA, letters of recommendation, extracurricular activities, admissions essay, and more. Although the SAT scores are not the only factor taken into consideration when you apply to the university or college of your choice, it is important to adequately prepare so you can pursue your best potential score.
What skills and material can I learn or review with an SAT Math tutor?
The SAT Math section consists of 58 multiple-choice and grid-in questions. You must finish this part of the exam within 80 minutes. There are two subsections on the Math assessment and you are only permitted to use a calculator for one of the subsections. This part of the SAT is 50% of your total SAT score. The scoring range for this part of the exam is 200 to 800 points. The other part of your total SAT score is the Verbal section of the SAT. It is important to note the fact that schools are able to see both your Math and Verbal score in addition to your complete score, so you can't hide a low Math score by performing well on the rest of the exam. You may want to work with a private SAT Math tutor in order to put your best foot forward.
The SAT math assessment has multiple content areas: Heart of Algebra, Problem-solving and Data Analysis, Passport to Advanced Math, as well as additional topics. Let's take a closer look at the skills you should review to do well in each of these content areas.
For the Heart of Algebra questions, your instructor will need to help you review linear systems and equations. Problem-Solving and Data Analysis questions will require you to use mathematical reasoning and operational skills to solve real-world problems. If you have a hard time solving these types of mathematical problems, your instructor can assist you by breaking down the steps. Passport to Advanced Math questions require you to demonstrate your understanding of the structure of expressions. You will also need to be able to analyze, manipulate, and rewrite these expressions. In addition to these three content areas, you also need to know volume formulas, trigonometric ratios, and be well-versed in the Pythagorean Theorem. Your instructor can also help you practice working on basic mathematical operations using complex numbers. You should also brush up on the geometry of circles, triangles, and various types of angles. You may also be asked to analyze real-world problems. To do this, you will need to determine which elements are required to solve the issue, represent the problem with mathematical operations, and carry out a solution. SAT Math tutors can provide you with practice opportunities. Under their supervision, you can receive instant feedback. This can help you understand the parts of the problem you are struggling to work through.
Your instructor can also assist you in understanding the various formats of the questions found in the Math section of the SAT. For the subsection where you are not allowed to use a calculator, you will have to answer 15 multiple-choice questions and five grid-in questions in 25 minutes. When you are taking the subsection that does allow a calculator, you will need to answer 30 multiple-choice questions and eight grid-ins in 55 minutes. If you've never taken an exam with a grid-in format, you'll want your instructor to demonstrate how to shade in the numbers or decimals to show the correct answer. Some questions will present you with a single scenario, and you will need to answer several questions about that specific situation.
You can also take advantage of your Math instructional sessions to take practice exams. Your instructor can set up a test-taking simulation that mimics the types of conditions you will expect to find on the exam day. This could help you to become familiar with the format and questions on the test. Being able to experience this time frame while you work through the types of problems you will find on the SAT Math section can help you figure out your personal pacing strategies. For example, if you find yourself having a hard time finishing answering each question, your instructor can work with you on different time management strategies, such as the process of elimination. By eliminating a few of the incorrect choices, you can increase your odds of choosing the right answer with an educated guess. There is no point penalty for guessing on the SAT, so it is important to try to at least guess on each question if you're having a hard time. Your instructor can also help you with other test-taking strategies. As an example, some students may waste time using the calculator to double check their responses for each question. This is something that would be smart to do at the end of the section if you have extra time, but it can be a huge time waster if you're doing it in the middle of every question. Your instructor can teach you tips and tricks on when to use your resources to ensure that you use them properly without taking too much time.
No matter which of the skills you'd like to work on, we are here to connect you with exceptional private SAT Math tutors to assist you as you work on improving your mathematical skills.
How is SAT Math tutoring different from other learning environments?
There are a lot of benefits that come with SAT Math tutoring. One of the main benefits of private instruction is the ability to study in a one-on-one learning setting that caters to your specific needs. This type of environment is impossible to find even in classrooms with a small student to teacher ratio.
Another benefit of private instruction is the ability to spend study sessions working on any topic you need or desire extra help with. For example, if you have already mastered the ability to convert degrees to radians, your math instructor can skip over this topic completely to allow you to work on other topics, such as single and multi-step percentage problems. If what you struggle with is creating mathematical operations to solve real-world issues, your instructor could help you work on this skill. Do you have the opportunity to spend as much time working on the subject until you are ready to move on. This can make your study sessions more effective and productive.
When you work with a personal instructor, you have the opportunity to build a good working relationship. This makes it easier for your instructor to meet your needs. Perhaps you're one of the many students who simply doesn't enjoy mathematics. Since your instructor has an opportunity to get to know your personality and your particular goals, he or she can look for new opportunities to make your lessons more enjoyable. As an example, if you're working on statistical concepts, Your instructor can use their knowledge of your interest in sports to apply statistics to real-world experiences.
Thanks to Varsity Tutors, you have the opportunity to either meet with your instructor online or in person. To access online tutoring sessions, you will use our unique live learning a platform. This allows you to have face-to-face instructional sessions with your teacher from the comfort of your favorite place to study. If you are the kind of student who prefers in-person tutoring sessions, we will make every effort to connect you with a local instructor who can fit within your scheduling requirements. You will have the opportunity to meet with your instructor at the location of your choice, which means you could either meet at the library, your favorite café, or in the comfort of your own home.
Our goal is to provide you with convenient and simple connections to SAT Math tutors to suit your particular needs
