I recently joined the team at Varsity Tutors and am very excited. I started my tutoring career in college, helping elementary and high school students with Math and English. After graduating from Yeshiva University, I continued my studies at Cardozo Law School. I have been a lawyer for five years, and I am planning now to shift to a more educational career. Last year I worked at a small tutoring center, and I decided to branch out even more and work here.Since Math and English are heavily tested subjects, I've had the opportunity to help many students in these areas. They actually have some significant similarities: they're both very structured and based on sets of rules. You just have to know the rules and how to apply them. And because of the structure, I think of Math and English problems as puzzles; it makes solving them easier, and it can even make them fun!Aside from tutoring, two of my favorite hobbies are crosswords and Scrabble (no surprise there!). I even have a few published crosswords of my own. Tennis is another hobby of mine, both watching and playing. I also enjoy traveling; my next trip is to Peru and I can't wait!

I believe that every student has the potential to overcome their learning obstacles with the right kind of help. Tutoring, in my opinion, is different for every student, and every tutor should have an adaptable approach to how they help their students. I want to ensure that students are absorbing as much as they possibly can from my sessions. Therefore, I welcome any suggestions or resources that students or parents may provide!

ACT Prep Tutor • +53 Subjects

Almost seven years ago, in the highly diverse, academically rich environment of the San Francisco Bay Area, I began my professional tutoring career with one of the national names in test prep. With them I learned the value of working one on one with students to identify how best they learn and help them master their own learning style. I went on to work for another, more individualized company as a lead academic tutor in test prep and multiple subjects. I was recruited by an online tutoring firm to write and perform their ACT prep video series. I currently assist students in Liberal Arts Studies through the Writing Center at the Juilliard School, and I continue to teach lessons in music. My enthusiasm for working with students continues to grow as I meet more capable, intelligent young people who often just need insight into how to tackle the mass of material they receive in the classroom. My background is as a classically trained singer, and I know first-hand the value of seeking the best help to improve one’s skills. I moved to New York City to continue my own development as a performer at the highest level, and I appreciate the will to aspire that this city instills. I enjoy clearly communicating complex ideas to students and, not just delivering content, continually checking in for actual understanding and growth. With so much experience in test prep, I know the importance of helping students feel empowered to replicate the confidence gained in a tutoring session in the classroom and on test day.

I am currently pursuing a Masters degree in Elementary Inclusive Education at the Teachers College, Columbia University. I have ambitions to someday affect educational policy and administration - maybe I'll be a principal or school superintendent. In college, I coordinated a reading program with local elementary school students that took place once a week. I also tutored at my college's writing center, working with fellow college students to improve and enhance writing assignments in all disciplines and to strengthen basic grammar and organizational skills. I am excited to be a Varsity Tutor, instilling a passion for learning in my students through experiential, hands-on education that promotes critical thinking skills.I firmly believe that the provision of equal educational opportunities can help foster social equality. I emphasize inquiry-based learning because I believe that students learn best when they are invested in the material and can fully explore its relation to the real world. I am flexible and accommodating in my approach to teaching, allowing all students to reach their full potential.

I started tutoring when I was a sophomore in high school and I have never looked back! My favorite part about tutoring is getting invested in the students I work with - I want them to excel and I am committed to helping them reach their goals. I am excited to meet you and work with your student.A little bit about me:- I was raised in Paradise Valley, Arizona with my two brothers (one older, one younger)- I graduated from Princeton University in 2014 with a degree in History of Science and Global Health Policy- I tutored throughout high school and college, working with students elementary - high school on general homework help and exam prep. In college, I tutored students in test prep for the PSAT and SAT, and I worked as college admissions consultant, editing student essays and working with students through the college admissions process.- I currently live in Chelsea, Manhattan- I am an avid reader. Despite the fact that my friends tease me for it, I am in 2 monthly book clubs with friends- I love running and am currently training for my first marathon this fall!
