I am reliving the process of learning that concept myself, both by explaining the concept in new ways and by seeing students wrestle with and eventually grasp the concept for themselves. For me, teaching is a way of "living vicariously" through students by experiencing the joy of learning once more.

I am currently pursuing my undergraduate degree in Psychology at the University of Kansas. I am also a member of the University Honors Program, and I will be attending Notre Dame Law School in the fall. I am currently tutoring all sections of the ACT. These are my favorite subjects to tutor, as I am not very far removed from high school, but I have much experience helping clients reach their goals over the past three years. I understand the incredible impact a solid ACT score can have on the college process. Hobbies: art, reading, writing, books, music, dancing, singing

I am a graduate of Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts degree in English Literature. During my time at Kansas State, I worked as a student tutor on subjects ranging from geology to French, and while pursuing my Master's degree, I taught Expository Writing to college students. While I am experienced with Writing and Language tutoring and enjoy teaching both, I am primarily a standardized test tutor with Varsity Tutors. Test prep combines the challenge of adapting to different learning styles with the high degree of reward that comes from helping a student raise his or her test scores and therefore open doors for that student, and for this reason, it is by far my favorite subject to tutor. I believe that an educator must first appreciate how each individual student approaches a new concept in order to understand the most effective means for that student to progress, and for this reason, I place the utmost importance on the student rather than the subject. When I am not tutoring or substitute teaching, I enjoy playing guitar, watching football and writing fiction.

I am entirely committed to ensuring every one of my students break through the barriers preventing them from reaching their full potential. My process involves an individual, connected explanation of the content, discussing problem-solving strategies to make testing much easier than it seems, encouraging practice and the growth of individual learning, and making sure my style of teaching is right for my student's style of learning. Most importantly, I seek to make my students love learning as much as I do.

I am currently in my second year at the University of Kansas. I am majoring in secondary history and government education and minoring in art history. Most of my tutoring experience comes from high school, where I peer tutored a student in her world history class. As an upperclassman, I also gained a lot of mentoring experience on my school's debate team as I helped new debaters learn the ropes of the activity. As my intended college degree reflects, I am most excited about teaching history, government, and art history classes, but I have a strong background in English as well. As a former AP and honors high school student, I would love to share the strategies that I found to be the most successful. I believe education not only improves society, but can help shape students to their fullest potential. I would love to be someone who facilitates that development. Outside of academics, I am a total bookworm, my favorite TV show is The Good Place, and I try to spend as much time outside as I can without getting a sunburn.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, Varsity Tutors connects students from all five Leawood schools with expert tutors. Whether your student attends one of the elementary schools, middle school, or high school in the district, we can match them with a tutor who understands the local curriculum and Kansas academic standards.

While Leawood's 13.2:1 student-teacher ratio is strong, personalized 1-on-1 instruction offers something classroom learning can't—complete customization to your student's learning style, pace, and specific gaps. A tutor can focus entirely on your student's needs without managing a full classroom, which is especially valuable for students working toward advanced placement, test preparation, or catching up in a particular subject.

Tutors working with Leawood students are familiar with Kansas standards and the Leawood school district's curriculum expectations. They can target specific skills outlined in Kansas standards, whether that's literacy benchmarks in elementary grades, math proficiency in middle school, or college-readiness standards in high school—ensuring your student is building exactly what they need to succeed.

During the first session, the tutor and student get to know each other and identify specific learning goals—whether that's improving a grade, preparing for an exam, or building confidence in a challenging subject. The tutor will assess your student's current level and learning style to create a personalized plan for future sessions.

That depends on your student's needs. Many students work with one tutor across related subjects (like math and algebra), while others prefer specialists for different areas. Varsity Tutors can match your student with one tutor or multiple tutors based on what works best for your family—there's no one-size-fits-all approach.

Scheduling is highly flexible and designed around your family's needs. Whether your student needs sessions during the school week, on weekends, or during school breaks, Varsity Tutors works to find a tutor whose availability matches your schedule.

Pricing varies based on the subject, tutor expertise, and frequency of sessions. There's no enrollment fee or long-term contract—you can start with as few sessions as you need. Contact Varsity Tutors for a personalized quote based on your student's specific tutoring needs.

Parents play an important role. You'll receive updates on your student's progress, and many tutors communicate regularly about what's working and where additional practice might help. You can also share specific concerns or goals with the tutor to ensure the sessions stay focused on what matters most to your family.
