I'm from a small town in southeast Michigan, where I went to high school before moving to Nashville for university. I just graduated from Vanderbilt University with a Bachelor's degree in neuroscience and Russian. During my time in high school and college, I tutored in a volunteer capacity on a wide range of subjects, from English and essay editing to calculus to ACT prep. I am hoping to spend the next year traveling (I am currently living in Bucharest, Romania!) before applying to medical school. Aside from tutoring, I would be happy to commiserate with you about the stresses of applying to higher education.

I have been tutoring in all subjects since 9th grade, mostly computer science and mathematics and SAT. My teaching philosophy is based on hands-on learning, and the motto of 'practice makes perfection'. I am currently a senior at Harvard College where I study chemistry, and I'll be attending Columbia Medical School next year. I have years of experience tutoring college students in math (mostly calculus) and chemistry including both general and organic chemistry. In addition, I am very familiar with all sections of the SAT and ACT having prepared several high school students for these tests. I believe that every student is capable of boosting his or her baseline score on these tests, so long as he or she works hard to get to know the format of the tests and the most popular types of questions. I tutor because I love seeing students develop a genuine passion for the subjects they once disliked (such as math and science), once they understand the power of these subjects and their applications to the real world.

I'm currently majoring in bioengineering/pre-med at Rice University. I graduated as the valedictorian of my high school class. My interests include biology, math, and violin performance. I've done neuroscience research at the Jungers Center for Neuroscience Reseach and the Oregon National Primate Research Center. I've also done molecular biology research at the Oregon Stem Cell Center.

I am still asked by my friends to help them with their math and chemistry homework. I get calls from home asking if I can get on Skype to explain something, and I am always happy to oblige. I understand that my education is a privilege, and I want to do my part to help every person have the same opportunities that I had.

In high school, I founded Mu Alpha Theta and ran it all four years of high school. I love teaching students in all aspects of math and science.

I am not teaching or grading papers, I can usually be found playing some brass instrument or another, umpiring baseball, trying out a new recipe in the kitchen, or spending far too much time on Netflix.

Naturally, my favorite subjects to teach are math and computer science, particularly programming languages like Python, Java, and Scratch. I have found great enrichment in these seemingly daunting areas, and I hope to make them more easily accessible for others. As a founding member of the Ready for College Leadership club (RCL), I mentored high school freshmen and sophomores to help them succeed in high school and prepare for college admissions, while also providing academic aid. The best part of working with students is watching them grow not just as a learner, but also as a thinker. I always encourage students to be curious and let their true interests be incorporated into lessons. In my spare time, I love learning languages; I am a heritage Spanish speaker and a self-taught Portuguese speaker. I also enjoy playing guitar and practicing new songs to sing.
