Stamford Tutoring FAQ

Varsity Tutors is the only resource you'll need for tutoring for students in Stamford, Connecticut. We can link you with a private teacher who can help your student at Westhill High School with anything they need assistance with, from ACT test prep to math homework review to learning about science concepts that were not discussed in class if they are a curious learner. Despite what you may have assumed until now, private tutoring for students in Stamford is helpful for students of all ages and skill levels; it's not only for students who are having a rough time at school. Even if your computer science courses at the University of Connecticut - Stamford Campus are going great but you want to go to the next level, you can benefit from learning under the tutelage of a tutor.

How much does Varsity Tutors cost for students in Stamford?

The price you will be charged to learn with a tutor for students in Stamford depends on many factors - it's different for each student, as each student has unique needs. Some of the factors that typically affect the rate of private instruction include the credentials of the tutor you're learning with and the amount of support you need.

If you need the consistent support of weekly sessions throughout the term, for example, instead of only a few MCAT prep sessions, you may pay a lower rate per lesson. It's a good idea to talk with one of our Educational Directors about your needs first so we can give you a more accurate quote.

Why choose Varsity Tutors for tutoring in Stamford?

Tell us about your learning goals and anything else you feel is relevant, so we can create a customized lesson plan to help you learn. We will also use a proprietary matching process to connect with a tutor who has been thoroughly vetted so you can get the help you deserve. You'll be able to meet them on our online learning platform on your own schedule.

Studies suggest that students who learn under the guidance of an expert instructor 1-on-1 tend to get better grades overall. However, in the long run, the advantages of private learning far supersede that. Think about the bigger picture. A private tutor in North Stamford can help you get your organizational skills on point, for example, to help you find your notes when you need them. Or, they can show you how to minimize distractions when learning alone and take better notes in class so you can remember the details later on. They can detect the gaps in your knowledge and work on filling the voids in your learning. By adapting to your learning style, they can show you which learning methods help you study best. Get in touch with Varsity Tutors to get started with a tutor for students in Stamford.

Tutoring review by Ade in Stamford, CT
The student and I reviewed both Mathematics and Science sections of the ACT. I had her take two short Mathematics and Science skills tests as a diagnostic of her performance level. Despite certain question types in both sections that she had some issues with, these are definitely her strongest sections. Thus, for the week's assignments, I recommended that she take 1 diagnostic test and practice her critical reading with multiple drills from her preparation materials. I will also send her some critical reading practice so that she can work with it. Our next meeting is scheduled for 4PM on Friday.

I met with the student on Sunday for approximately 1.25 hours. We practiced diagramming for the games section. She is going to buy some books with a bunch of practice tests in them and I told her to do as many as she could before we meet again. She needs as much repetition as she can get between now and the test.

Tutoring review by Yvonne in Stamford, CT
We began by going over the reading portion of the exam.  The student practiced identifying the six types of questions that encompass the reading section.  We also went over strategies for each type of question.  We then went over some mathematics. The student has a very strong foundation in math with minimal problems.  We ended the session by talking about the essay portion and how to write a strong essay that stands out.  The student did some exercises that will expand her use of imagery.

The student and I went over the material on the quiz today. He was very comfortable with the probability, but we had to do the complex set theory stuff more intensely. I feel as if he understood all the material in the end though, and will do great on his quiz.

The student had homework due on Monday, which he had completed. I checked through his work and gave him pointers on the problems that he struggled with. This homework dealt with solving equation for an unknown variable.  For Sunday, he is redoing his previous test clearly on a separate sheet of paper without any help. I will be receiving an email with a scanned copy of both the original test as well as the redone one.
