I am an extremely effective overall English teacher, and am also able to offer a great deal in SAT/ACT preparation. Being a former student-athlete, as well as continuing my passion for playing, I understand the unique struggles that may cause, and am more than willing to give advise on how to effectively balance school and sports. I am not jut interested in teaching young students how to pass tests, but rather how to actually learn, expand the mind, and think critically for themselves. Because I have eclectic interests I chose to study Latin American and Latino Studies, an interdisciplinary combination of sociology, politics, Spanish, and history. Additionally, I passed with honors an extremely rigorous International Teaching English as a Foreign Language course in Buenos Aires, Argentina that was certified by the College of Teachers in the UK. With this certificate, I have taught both foreign children and adults to improve their reading, writing, speaking and listening skills as well as aiding students to improve their scores on the TOEFL exam.For the last ten years I have worked at Jenks Public Schools teaching middle and high school students a wide variety of subjects including ESL, Spanish, physical science, life science, pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, American history, geography and 7th-12th grade language arts. Regardless of the subject, I have always relished the opportunity to work with students to help them develop critical literacy. I have worked with all types of learners as both a secondary English and history teacher but also as a tutor for students in grades 5-12. Currently, I am a fourth year Medical Student in the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education at CCNY. This is a seven year BS/MD program, so by the end of the seven years, I will have achieved both degrees. I have a lot of tutoring experience in the K-12 age especially in the 7-12 grade range. I have taught SAT, SHSAT, ACT, SAT subject tests and Regents exams as well. My favorite subject to tutor is math and biology, but I am able to tutor other subject areas like reading, writing, chemistry, and physics. My tutoring style is very student oriented with some lecturing. I make sure that most of the time I am asking questions, even if it is basic, just to get the student to always be on his/her feet.
