I am a recent Cornell University graduate (Dec '23) majoring in Biological Sciences with a focus on Genetics, Genomics, and Development. My passion lies in healthcare, as I am currently preparing to attend medical school this upcoming fall. However, I have always had an interest in teaching. I started as a general chemistry TA, supporting students during problem solving sessions. Then, I helped teach our genetics lecture course, coordinating individual and group tutoring sessions that guided students in content application. This position transformed into a leadership role, organizing our teaching team while spearheading an initiative to train fellow teaching assistants in pedagogical techniques that I learned in a course I took on the art of teaching. Lastly, in an ethics of medicine course of non-STEM majors, I prepared and facilitated discussion sections on current topics in personalized medicine. These experiences, combined with my time as a teaching assistant in correctional facilities, helped me grow as a varsity tutor now going into my 4th year on this platform. Given this breadth of experience teaching diverse and unique students, I am eager and excited to support young scientists in any subject related to this field.

Every student learns differently. Every student has different passions and strengths. It was thanks to my support system that believed these things that I have thrived in academics. I would love to do the same for today's students.

In fact, I've taught public school as an English teacher and reading specialist for 33 years; worked as an adjunct professor in the fields of education and business for 12 years, and I've worked as a certified tutor and educational consultant for a number of years. During that time, I've earned a BA degree in English, Master degrees in reading, curriculum and instruction, and several educational certifications in advanced literature, journalism, and free-lance writing. I pride myself in making connections with my students by demonstrating my knowledge in a subject area; my passion for teaching and learning, and my willingness to seek sources and provide immediate resources that enable learning to take place on a continuum. I know that everyone learns differently and that interests in learning are also different, from one individual to the next. Through these programs, I worked with students from the age of 5 to 18 years old. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about Reading, Comprehension and other English/Literature focused areas. Through my tutoring sessions, I make it a point to develop a trusting relationship with my students, opening an open dialogue and allowing for the most productive and effective sessions possible. I truly believe that education is a determinant of subsequent successes and as such, should be a priority in our communities. I am a graduate of Fordham University. I received my Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in Communications. Since graduation I have been working as a teaching assistant at Fordham High School for the Arts under Blue Engine, an educational service affiliated with Americorps. Even before college I was a teaching assistant, tutor, and mentor to 6-8th graders under the REACH Program for Regis High School which serves academically gifted students whose families are in financial need. Interestingly enough, I too was once a student in the REACH Program. This is where my love of education and belief that a strong educational background is essential to advancing in life and improving one's circumstances. As an English tutor, I believe that reading comprehension and writing skills are essential to advancing in literary analysis as well as communicational skills. Through scaffolding questioning, deep text readings, and rigorous analytical writing, I believe any student can become a competent English student and communicator. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, film and television, as well as musical criticism.

While I like teaching almost all subjects, Math and English are the ones I enjoy the most. I am extremely interested in teaching students and helping them achieve the goals they set out for themselves. It is so important for students to notice their own strengths and feel confident in their learning.
