Tutoring review by Maroun in Red Bank, NJ
Today was the first session with this student. We spent the first few minutes with his dad present discussing the student's class, past performance, teacher, etc. I also shared my background in math and my tutoring philosophy. The rest of the time we focused on 3 worksheets of challenge problems. These types of problems are new to the student and he didn't do too well on the first one. I explained the process of the problem and what needs to be written in each section/ box. As we moved on from one problem to another he seemed to get a good grasp of the concept. He knew the subject well, at least what has been taught so far. I felt the bigger challenge was knowing how to answer each question on the challenge problems. Overall, he did well and I was very happy with his engagement and willingness to do the work.

Today, we reviewed math and geography, and we began the editing process for her history project. We have also been working on the vocabulary/ journal entries that are due on Friday. I think the student made a good effort this week in planning out her writing work load, however, she still needs to allow time for editing and revisions.

We focused on vertex form and real life applications of parabolas in preparation for the student's test on Friday. We ran through word problems until she was comfortable with finding solutions on her own through analyzing the problem and applying what she's learned.
