Though originally from South Texas, I recently relocated to Austin to pursue a Ph.D. in English. My areas of specialization are Medieval and Renaissance British literature. Prior to this, I received a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Texas State University-San Marcos and, while pursuing my M.F.A., lived in San Antonio. As I continue my graduate studies and teach colege-level courses, I am excited to share my love of the written word with students who want to grow as writers and readers. While the majority of my tutoring and teaching experience has taken place within a college writing center or classroom setting, I would be well-suited to work with college-bound high school students preparing for AP English exams and college application essays. I also have extensive experience working with students who have developmental and remedial educational needs and, additionally, have experience tutoring students for whom English is a second language. Where literature is concerned, aside from being well-versed in early British literature, I also have abiding interests in African-American literature, Mexican-American literature, Native-American literature, and poetry in particular across time. My undergraduate and master's degrees required me to read far and wide within the American and British literary traditions, however, and I have had great success working with students who struggle with literary analysis.I believe that everyone is capable of critical thought and creative expression regardless of her or his educational background or learning level. Everyone has a voice that deserves to be heard and a story that deserves to be told. As a tutor, my primary goal is to uncover and foster these things in my students because I believe that you cannot use the voice that’s uniquely yours until you first believe that you have one. And while I will put on my teacher hat when the occasion calls for it, I am first and foremost a tireless cheerleader and a relentless believer in my students. I strive to empower my students by cultivating their self-confidence and encouraging them to take intellectual and creative risks, all of which are qualities that extend far beyond the confines of an English class.Because I am a writer—specifically, a poet—many of my interests and hobbies revolve around language and literature. I am an avid reader of everything from Greco-Roman mythology to Contemporary American Poetry to Tolkein’s The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter. Other interests include foreign languages in general and the Spanish language in particular, the American Southwest, classical music and music in general (I sing and play the clarinet, oboe, recorder, and ocarina), the visual arts, Star Wars and Star Trek, and the Middle Ages. I love being outdoors and am an avid hiker and backpacker. I also love to travel and have wandered across the United States, Mexico, Peru, India, and England. I hope to return to India one day and dream of going to Thailand and Tibet. My work schedule keeps me fairly busy and my cats Linus and Fergus keep me perpetually on my toes, but in my spare time, I enjoy practicing yoga, discovering the next best place to eat that nobody has ever heard of, combing through the shelves at Halfprice Books, and exploring the city of Austin.

I am a current senior at Davidson College, working towards my B.A. in German Studies and Arab Studies. I have spent many hours tutoring the German and Arabic language to college students. I have spent time abroad in Germany, studying German as a second language with AATG (American Association of Teachers of German). My years of being a camp counselor and babysitter have translated into my teaching methods and style. I encourage young learners to approach problems in multiple ways by retesting previously learned material and encouraging independent thinking. I am a huge believer in discovering answers instead of being told them. I look forward to working with you!
I have entered the PA profession as a second career. I was a teacher before transitioning into medicine and find tutoring a great way to tie both of my careers together! I am now heading into an Acute Care Fellowship.I would love to share my knowledge and study tips to help you feel confident going into the biggest test of your career. I am a knowledgeable, passionate, and compassionate tutor. My teaching experience ranges from high school instruction, private tutoring, coaching, preaching, and leading high school youth groups. I have tutored and/or taught in algebra 1, geometry, American literature, world literature, middle school math, middle school science, middle school English/reading, American history, world history, essay composition, SAT prep, SSAT/ISEE prep, SHSAT prep, and GRE prep. I always try to discern what the individual needs and learning styles of my students are and then try to meet them where they are. I believe that there is a great student inside everyone, and it takes the right approach to make that great student manifest.
I graduated from Davidson College in North Carolina with a BA in Community Development based on my involvement in Community Service. Since then, I lived and taught Kindergarten, Elementary, Middle, and High School students in Thailand and Taiwan, and ESL and GED adult students here in the United States. I have worked with students from over 70 different countries in the world, of all ages, and all levels. I believe that learning should be fun and interactive. Everyone learns differently and I think my job as a tutor and teacher is to discover how an individual learns best and build on their strengths.Outside of teaching, I love to read, spend time at the beach, and play silly games with my 4 year old daughter.
Hello! I'm Ryan, and I'm dedicated to empowering you and your words as much as possible. I even got an English degree from Davidson College to back it up. I've also worked as a College Advisor, so I have experience filling out hundreds of FAFSAs and college applications, editing quite a bit of last-minute essays, and assisting students in the best strategies for the ACT/SAT. I hope to help you present and uncover all your truths!
I work as a second shift teacher at a middle school in Brooklyn. I am a recent graduate of Davidson College, which was recently named by Forbes as the best college in the South. I received a BA in English with a Concentration in Education and subsequently moved to New York City . While in school I spent a semester shadowing a local high school teacher and aiding students in a one-on-one environment with a variety of tasks within their English curriculum. As English was my major, it is certainly my passion, but I also love a variety of other subjects, especially math and standardized testing. As a teacher during the week I understand the importance of making conceptual connections as a student rather than memorizing facts and strategies.
I am a very passionate teacher who has worked in public and private school settings at both the high school and college level. I have an undergraduate mathematics degree, and taught AP Calculus at a North Carolina high school. I also have a PhD in philosophy, and have taught at major research universities in Missouri and Ohio. I am personally invested in my students' success, and take pride in being clear, conscientious, and accessible.
I completed the undergraduate liberal arts curriculum at Davidson College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Following graduation I completed four years of work at Children’s Hospital Boston in the Hematology and Oncology Department as a Research Technician investigating genetic disorders of iron metabolism in a mouse model system. After my time at Children’s Hospital, I enrolled in a graduate program at Boston University. After six years, I received my PhD in Molecular Biology, Cellular Biology and Biochemistry. My PhD research focused on developing a novel methodology for fluorescently detecting unmodified RNAs in living E. coli cells.Concurrently, I was engaged as a Teaching Fellow for courses in Microbiology, Physiology, Molecular Biology, Cellular Biology and Biochemistry. As a Teaching Fellow I instructed and tutored engineering students who easily absorbed Mathematics, but struggled with the life sciences. Working with these students was challenging, but success in motivating and helping them overcome learning barriers to succeed academically was my favorite part of the job and personally very gratifying. I now believe that teaching students how to push through any intellectual roadblocks and overcome learning difficulties can be more important than teaching the subject matter alone. When I am not in the classroom or lab, I spend my time playing water polo or life guarding, surfing and fishing the beaches of Nantucket.
I graduated from Davidson College in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. I earned my masters in 2009 from Wake Forest University in Business Administration and Management. My goal here is to help anyone who genuinely wants to learn and prepare themselves for success in education and in life. I enjoy golf and travel.
