Hi everyone! My name is Alex Baggott-Rowe and I'm excited to be your next tutor. I live in Cincinnati OH with my wife and our two dogs including a the month old puppy! I love to cook, play board games, read, and watch TV/Movies, especially Marvel and Harry Potter. My background is in Language Arts and Latin which means I can help you with anything from Reading Comprehension to Vocabulary to Writing and Grammar! I have an undergraduate degree from Davidson College in North Carolina. I recently graduated law school and sat for the Texas Bar Examination. In addition, I have worked as a teacher in the Houston Independent School District (HISD) and for the Children's Defense Fund's Freedom Schools. I have experience working with students of all ages. I believe in the value of education, but also recognize the unique difficulties and pressures that today's students face. I strive to combat these difficulties with a youthful and energetic approach to tutoring, aiming to make subject matters come alive. My goal is to make study material approachable and fun while maintaining a level of focus and discipline that leads to positive results, including better habits and higher grades. In my spare time, I enjoy playing and watching my favorite sports.

I believe that a successful tutor has three key characteristics: 1) teaching/tutoring experience; 2) a passion for and mastery of the subject matter; and 3) empathy for the different kinds of challenges that students face both inside and outside the classroom.First, having actual teaching experience (as well as tutoring experience) exposes one to a wide variety of students and learning styles, which I believe are crucial to adapting to different students and their academic needs. In my case, this has included three years of teaching Chemistry I, Advanced Placement Chemistry, and Physical Science in the public-school system (North Carolina and Georgia). Moreover, I have been a certified tutor for Sylvan Learning Center for almost a decade in all levels of Math, Science, Reading Comprehension, and Writing Skillsincluding Elementary, Intermediate, and Advancedspanning all age groups. In addition to these topics, I have tutored students in standardized test preparation including all sections of the SAT, ACT and the GRE.Helping students achieve is, for me, rooted in my love of the subject matter, an enthusiasm I hope to transmit to all of my students. I was a scholar-athlete in high school and continued on to a liberal arts education at Davidson College in Davidson, North Carolina. While there, I majored in Chemistry and swam competitively. My background also includes research in Synthetic Organic Chemistry during a semester abroad at Queen's University in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Currently, I am finishing my graduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in Applied Physiology and Neuromechanics, and enjoy the computational and theoretical challenges that my degree entails as it involves fundamental understanding of bioinformatics, genomics and biostatistics. At every step of the way, I have found new things I love about science, and continue to feel the thrill of learning as the different fields continue to change and evolve.Finally, a successful tutor has the ability to empathize and understand the different challenges that specific students might face, whether they are academic (learning to focus, tackling particularly difficult topics, managing their time), or personal, which can often infringe on one's ability to complete their academic work. I love helping students come up with strategies to maximize their potential and help them to overcome these obstacles and/or meet these challenges. Nothing provides the fuel for enthusiasm like seeing a student understand something for the first time or have an 'a-ha!' moment. I believe that a tutor sensitive to a students specific needs can help every student find the joy in any subject, as well as the best way to tackle it given the students strengths and weaknesses.

I enjoy learning as much as I enjoy teaching! As a youngster I loved asking questions and spending time with books. I graduated from Davidson College in 2009 with a degree in English and Spanish Literature. After college I spend five years teaching in Oakland, California where I also earned my Masters in Teaching and Education.I enjoy teaching K-12 reading and writing skills as well as elementary through middle school mathematics. I am a Spanish speaker and enjoy helping others practice their skills. I am a knowledgeable, passionate, and compassionate tutor. My teaching experience ranges from high school instruction, private tutoring, coaching, preaching, and leading high school youth groups. I have tutored and/or taught in algebra 1, geometry, American literature, world literature, middle school math, middle school science, middle school English/reading, American history, world history, essay composition, SAT prep, SSAT/ISEE prep, SHSAT prep, and GRE prep. I always try to discern what the individual needs and learning styles of my students are and then try to meet them where they are. I believe that there is a great student inside everyone, and it takes the right approach to make that great student manifest.

I have been tutoring since 2018. I was a math instructor for five years at a math learning center. There I worked with students in grades 1 through college. I particularly love teaching elementary and middle school math as well as Algebra! I am comfortable working with students of all ages and all abilities. In addition to tutoring math, I was a Spanish AT for introductory Spanish courses and also conversational ones. I also volunteered at the local public elementary school weekly to teach Spanish to second graders. The summer between my junior and senior year, I was fortunate enough to intern in Spain and teach English at a bilingual school. I believe every student learns differently, and I am always happy to adapt my teaching methods to best meet each student's individual needs. These methods range include diagrams, drawings, and the socratic method.

I completed the undergraduate liberal arts curriculum at Davidson College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Following graduation I completed four years of work at Children’s Hospital Boston in the Hematology and Oncology Department as a Research Technician investigating genetic disorders of iron metabolism in a mouse model system.After my time at Children’s Hospital, I enrolled in a graduate program at Boston University. After six years, I received my PhD in Molecular Biology, Cellular Biology and Biochemistry. My PhD research focused on developing a novel methodology for fluorescently detecting unmodified RNAs in living E. coli cells.Concurrently, I was engaged as a Teaching Fellow for courses in Microbiology, Physiology, Molecular Biology, Cellular Biology and Biochemistry. As a Teaching Fellow I instructed and tutored engineering students who easily absorbed Mathematics, but struggled with the life sciences. Working with these students was challenging, but success in motivating and helping them overcome learning barriers to succeed academically was my favorite part of the job and personally very gratifying. I now believe that teaching students how to push through any intellectual roadblocks and overcome learning difficulties can be more important than teaching the subject matter alone. When I am not in the classroom or lab, I spend my time playing water polo or life guarding, surfing and fishing the beaches of Nantucket.

I learned Spanish while living as an exchange student in Ecuador the year before I went to college (1989-1990). I became fluent during that time. I worked as an Assistant Teacher to the Spanish Department while studying at Davidson College and enjoyed getting to know the students & expanding their understanding of the Spanish language & the Latin American culture. I had the privilege of studying in Spain during my Junior year, which deepened my appreciation for the roots of the language. I worked as a Spanish/English interpreter for the Orange County courts as my Summer job during those years. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to share what I learned.

I received my BA in Theater from Davidson College and an MA in Education from Wake Forest University. Over the past several years, I have tutored a variety of students in English, math and organizational skills. One of my favorite subjects is geometry. It fosters essential skills like working with numbers and spatial tasks, which apply to just about any profession. As an educator, I pride myself on patience. Students often come to me with questions they didn't get to ask during class. I want to fill in those gaps and help people achieve their academic goals. I adore dogs, love promoting local arts and crafts, and enjoy performing Shakespeare!

Hey! My name is Ramsey, and I'm excited to tutor various subjects, from SAT/ACT prep to high school and college-level STEM courses. I have a strong background in educating high school and university-level students, and I pride myself on catering to students' diverse learning styles! As a student with late-diagnosed ADHD, it is my mission to create engaging lessons and inspire students to become advocates in their learning.

I work as a second shift teacher at a middle school in Brooklyn. I am a recent graduate of Davidson College, which was recently named by Forbes as the best college in the South. I received a BA in English with a Concentration in Education and subsequently moved to New York City . While in school I spent a semester shadowing a local high school teacher and aiding students in a one-on-one environment with a variety of tasks within their English curriculum. As English was my major, it is certainly my passion, but I also love a variety of other subjects, especially math and standardized testing. As a teacher during the week I understand the importance of making conceptual connections as a student rather than memorizing facts and strategies.

I am a current senior at Davidson College, working towards my B.A. in German Studies and Arab Studies. I have spent many hours tutoring the German and Arabic language to college students. I have spent time abroad in Germany, studying German as a second language with AATG (American Association of Teachers of German). My years of being a camp counselor and babysitter have translated into my teaching methods and style. I encourage young learners to approach problems in multiple ways by retesting previously learned material and encouraging independent thinking. I am a huge believer in discovering answers instead of being told them. I look forward to working with you!
