I am a very passionate teacher who has worked in public and private school settings at both the high school and college level. I also have a PhD in philosophy, and have taught at major research universities in Missouri and Ohio. I am personally invested in my students' success, and take pride in being clear, conscientious, and accessible.

Hello! I'm Ryan, and I'm dedicated to empowering you and your words as much as possible. I even got an English degree from Davidson College to back it up. I've also worked as a College Advisor, so I have experience filling out hundreds of FAFSAs and college applications, editing quite a bit of last-minute essays, and assisting students in the best strategies for the ACT/SAT. I hope to help you present and uncover all your truths!
I enjoy learning as much as I enjoy teaching! As a youngster I loved asking questions and spending time with books. I graduated from Davidson College in 2009 with a degree in English and Spanish Literature. After college I spend five years teaching in Oakland, California where I also earned my Masters in Teaching and Education.I enjoy teaching K-12 reading and writing skills as well as elementary through middle school mathematics. I am a Spanish speaker and enjoy helping others practice their skills. If you are interested in talking sports, The Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers are my teams! As a tutor, I will work with students to identify their strengths areas of growth. We will work together to master mathematics and language arts skills in a relevant and enjoyable context. I look forward to working with families in helping young learners realize their potential.
As a passionate biologist with a PhD in Developmental Biology from Stanford University, I bring a unique blend of academic expertise and a hands-on teaching approach to my tutoring sessions. With experience in guiding students through complex concepts in AP Biology, Cell Biology, and Genetics, I focus on tailoring each lesson to meet individual learning goals. My methodology emphasizes interactive problem-solving and real-world applications, fostering a supportive environment where students can thrive. I believe in making learning engaging by incorporating memory devices and fun facts that spark curiosity. I'm excited to inspire the next generation of scientists and help students unlock their potential in biology.
I am a current senior at Davidson College, working towards my B.A. in German Studies and Arab Studies. I have spent many hours tutoring the German and Arabic language to college students. I have spent time abroad in Germany, studying German as a second language with AATG (American Association of Teachers of German). My years of being a camp counselor and babysitter have translated into my teaching methods and style. I encourage young learners to approach problems in multiple ways by retesting previously learned material and encouraging independent thinking. I am a huge believer in discovering answers instead of being told them. I look forward to working with you!
I received my BA in Theater from Davidson College and an MA in Education from Wake Forest University. Over the past several years, I have tutored a variety of students in English, math and organizational skills. One of my favorite subjects is geometry. It fosters essential skills like working with numbers and spatial tasks, which apply to just about any profession. As an educator, I pride myself on patience. Students often come to me with questions they didn't get to ask during class. I want to fill in those gaps and help people achieve their academic goals. I adore dogs, love promoting local arts and crafts, and enjoy performing Shakespeare!
I have an undergraduate degree from Davidson College in North Carolina. I recently graduated law school and sat for the Texas Bar Examination. In addition, I have worked as a teacher in the Houston Independent School District (HISD) and for the Children's Defense Fund's Freedom Schools. I have experience working with students of all ages. I believe in the value of education, but also recognize the unique difficulties and pressures that today's students face. I strive to combat these difficulties with a youthful and energetic approach to tutoring, aiming to make subject matters come alive. My goal is to make study material approachable and fun while maintaining a level of focus and discipline that leads to positive results, including better habits and higher grades. In my spare time, I enjoy playing and watching my favorite sports.
I love helping students find how to use their interests and passions to succeed in areas that challenge them. I have experience working with students from elementary age to college age, in a variety of subjects. I love to write, read, and learn about history and cultures - so if those are areas you struggle with, or want someone to geek over them with you, I'm here to help :)When I'm not tutoring, I enjoy hiking, exploring new places (like New Mexico - where I recently moved!), and watching the new hot thing on Netflix!
Hi there!I am so excited to get to know you and help you along on your journey towards success.I recently graduated from Davidson College, a small liberal arts school in the heart of nowhere, North Carolina. I majored in history (with a focus on gender) and fell in love with it. To learn about how current social, political, economic, gender, etc. issues developed over time is fascinating. It has now become my passion to teach history in a way that is engaging and presents historical figures as real people that interact just like we do. It is most important to me, when it comes to history, to democratize its study -- you CAN understand it! It just needs to be in words more accessible to you.In terms of writing and essay help, I did weekly writing sessions with freshmen at my college to help them improve their papers. We would most ofter go over clarity, word choice, grammar, etc. I believe it's important to represent yourself how you want to be represented, and taking the time to learn to write in your own voice is very freeing and makes the writing process less arduous. I promise :)My philosophy around education is that if you are visibly putting in the effort, I am proud of you. Especially in these very hard times, I am proud of you for pushing through and seeking tutoring help. Education is important and learning is fun! I will try my hardest to make our sessions personable and not like you're just in school for another hour. I recently graduated from college and know exactly what school feels like, especially when you can't see people in person and your entire life seems to be consumed by screens. In my spare time, I let my brain rest. I strongly believe that taking care of yourself and checking in with your mind and body is the only way to keep your head on straight. I take walks and listen to podcasts, I love music (I write essays with intense soundtracks flooding my ears so that I can feel like I'm doing something world-saving), and I love YA fantasy novels :)
Education is more than my professionit's my mission. I'm passionate about helping students unlock their potential and rediscover confidence in their learning. From early readers to high school scholars, I believe every student has the capacity to excel when given individualized attention, clear study tools, and genuine encouragement. Over the past five years, I've taught and tutored students across public, charter, and private school settings as well as virtually. My experience spans ages 7 through 18 and includes English Language Arts, Writing, Reading Comprehension, History, and Elementary through Pre-Algebra Math. I also have extensive experience supporting students with diverse learning needs, including ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and Down Syndrome. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Africana Studies with a minor in Arab Studies from Davidson College, and I am formally trained in Study Technology through Applied Scholasticsan educational methodology focused on helping students master concepts, improve comprehension, and build independent study skills. My teaching philosophy centers on connection, clarity, and creativity. I tailor each session to the student's learning style, set measurable goals, and create a supportive environment where students feel safe to make mistakes, ask questions, and experience genuine progress. Whether helping a child gain confidence in reading or guiding a high schooler toward higher-level writing skills, I focus on real understandingnot rote memorization. Outside of teaching, I enjoy writing, exploring world cultures, creating educational content, and inspiring others to approach learning with curiosity and purpose. My goal in every session is to help students not only succeed academically but also develop lifelong confidence in their ability to learn, think, and create.
I believe that students excel when they learn in a supportive, encouraging environment. As a tutor, I strive to create a stress-free space for students to learn and thrive. In 2011, I graduated magna cum laude from Davidson College with a degree in English and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. I also have a Master of Divinity degree from Columbia Theological Seminary, where I won numerous awards, including the prize for highest academic distinction.I have experience teaching ancient Greek, ESL, ELA, and religion, and am able to tutor in a variety of other subjects. If you are interested in growing as a learner, I would love to work with you!
I have been tutoring since 2018. I was a math instructor for five years at a math learning center. There I worked with students in grades 1 through college. I particularly love teaching elementary and middle school math as well as Algebra! I am comfortable working with students of all ages and all abilities. In addition to tutoring math, I was a Spanish AT for introductory Spanish courses and also conversational ones. I also volunteered at the local public elementary school weekly to teach Spanish to second graders. The summer between my junior and senior year, I was fortunate enough to intern in Spain and teach English at a bilingual school. I believe every student learns differently, and I am always happy to adapt my teaching methods to best meet each student's individual needs. These methods range include diagrams, drawings, and the socratic method.
