How can Mandarin Chinese tutoring help you succeed?

With over 800 million speakers, Mandarin Chinese is spoken by nearly a fifth of the world's population. Learning Chinese can open doors to you, but first, you have to master the complex new language. If you're struggling in a Chinese course, then a personal tutor may provide the help you need. The educational directors at Varsity Tutors can give you assistance in discovering a Mandarin Chinese tutor in New York City, New York, who can help you with the language.

Chinese is a very foreign language to English speakers because there are very few overlapping concepts. The grammar, vocabulary, tones, and alphabet are all very different. It can be difficult to start completely from scratch in a new language, especially one that uses entirely foreign concepts. Mandarin Chinese tutoring in New York City can help you through your Chinese coursework. Learning a new language in a classroom can be stressful. One instructor must help twenty or so students pronounce words right and understand the flow of a sentence. Mandarin uses five different tones per vowel, which makes pronunciation even more difficult. As many of these tones are unheard of in English, it can be difficult for a new student to master the feeling of new sounds with their mouth. However, when you work with a private tutor, you may get the opportunity to really work on your skills in Chinese. Working one-on-one with a tutor allows your tutor to listen to how you pronounce words and how you form sentences. Only by listening to you actually use the language can an instructor inform you of the areas that need improvement. Your private tutor can spend the necessary time with you to help in this regard.

Mandarin Chinese Tutoring review by Emily in New York City, NY
Today we went over the student's Chinese vocabulary in preparation for his test Friday. We worked with flashcards, and writing characters. He was struggling a bit with having to remember the characters. However, after much repetition, he was able to complete both the practice test I gave him, and the vocabulary portion of the practice test from his instructor. He should be well prepared for his exam.

I gave him a quiz on translations from English to Chinese. We went it over and plan to give him another try next week. We started a new chapter in book 2, and learned the names of common fruits.

Mandarin Chinese Tutoring review by Kathleen in New York City, NY
The student studied for his dictation test and completed most of his homework for the week. The characters for this week's test were complicated and although he felt intimidated at first, he benefited from color-coded character sheets and learned the characters quickly. His spacing when writing characters has greatly improved. He still struggles with understanding written or spoken sentences in Chinese, but did well when I broke the sentences into one- or two- word chunks.

The student and I reviewed Lesson 4, 5 and new words of Lesson 6 in his book. We went through new words, grammar points, read the texts and I answered student's questions. Also I provided related vocabulary and phrases, also words that are easily to be confused. We made sentences and practiced conversations based on the text too.

Mandarin Chinese Tutoring review by Ginger in New York City, NY
This session record is for Student 1, Student 2, and Student 3 all together. I continued teaching each student an introductory conversation, using a question-answer format for Student 1 and Student 2 and a repeating version for Student 3. Student 1 and I had a long conversation about our families, while Student 2 and I had a shorter one. I also reviewed different action words with Student 1 and Student 3.
