The LSAT, short for the Law School Admission Test, is a law school admission exam used as a screening device by law schools in the United States, Canada, and a few other countries. The test measures one's skills necessary for success in any law school. There are some law schools that accept other tests besides the LSAT for consideration such as the GRE. Nevertheless, it's highly recommended for pupils to take the LSAT to increase their chances of admission. This exam is the only one that ABA-accredited law schools accept. Below is a list of LSAT topic areas:

We've come up with a pretty solid draft of the essay we've been working on. She is going to begin free-writing for her essay for the college she is hoping to attend, which we will begin working on next week. We will also put the finishing touches on the essay she's already written.

The student had taken one test over the course of the week and also did one extra section of games. He dropped a little in the logical reasoning but his accuracy in the game section is improving and he is getting more confident with it. We worked mostly on games and came up with some good diagrams for ones involving 3 sets of variables or more. We also went over some of the logical reasoning and talked out why the correct answers were correct. We will be meeting again in a week.

Online LSAT Tutoring review by Neil
The student and I completed a comprehensive study of the arguments sections of the SAT. We followed the Princeton review methods for approaching each question type. I emphasized the importance of understanding and diagramming the arguments before approaching the answer choices, as well as the importance of understanding what each question type is looking for in an answer. We also covered validity in logical arguments and the importance of analyzing logical form when trying to comprehend an argument as a whole.

This was my first sessions with the student and it was held at her apartment complex's office area, which is a perfect location for meeting. During this session, we discussed her goals, study habits, and prior LSAT experience. We focused on the game section, completing 3 games from the practice test she had taken the previous weekend at my request. On this test, she scored a 149. Her goal is a 160, which, I believe, with a lot of work, is quite realistic for her.

Studying for the LSAT doesn't have to be a discouraging experience. With help from an expert LSAT coach, you can have effective and productive study sessions.

The LSAT, which is short for the Law School Admissions Test, is the only exam accepted for admissions purposes by all ABA-accredited law schools as well as all Canadian common-law law schools. The exam lasts about three and a half hours and consists of about 100 questions. Your LSAT scores are based on the number of questions you answer correctly. There is no deduction for incorrect answers so you'll want to make sure to at least guess on each question even if you aren't sure of the exact answer. The LSAT is made up of five 35-minute sections, four of these containing multiple-choice questions. Four out of five of the sections will contribute to your score. This will include a single Reading Comprehension section an Analytical Reasoning section, and two Logical Reasoning sections. The section that is not scored is usually referred to as the Variable section and is used as a means to pre-test new types of questions or evaluate different test forms. The placement of this section varies within different LSAT exams and you will not know which section is unscored until after you receive your score report. There is also a 35-minute unscored writing sample. Doing well on the LSAT could help you increase your chance of gaining admission to the law school of your choice. For this reason, you will want to do everything you can to put your best foot forward. Working with exceptional LSAT tutors can give you an edge over the competition.

What skills or content can be covered with a private LSAT tutor?

Whether you're looking for help to work on one specific section or you prefer a comprehensive review of all the skills and content found on the exam, LSAT tutors are able to help you review the skills and material found on each part of the test. Let's take a closer look at the various skills you can work on with your LSAT instructor to review for each section.

The Reading Comprehension section of the LSAT lasts for 35 minutes. To review for this section, you will want to practice reading passages that are 400 to 500 words long and be able to determine the author's purpose as well as describe the main idea of the passage. This section can contain passages which cover social sciences, arts and humanities, and law. This is your opportunity to demonstrate your ability to read and understand the type of long-form, complex texts you will encounter in law school.

The Analytical Reasoning section is another 35 minutes portion which measures your ability to understand relationships and be able to draw conclusions about them. Your LSAT instructor can help you practice reasoning with conditional statements as well as the ability to infer what could or must be true based on provided facts and rules. You will also want to review how to recognize two statements which have logically equivalent context.

The Logical Reasoning assessment is split into two sections. Together, these sections take 70 minutes to complete. This part of the LSAT assesses your ability to critique, analyze, and complete different arguments. Content sources for this section of the test can come from newspapers, magazines, advertisements, informal discourse, or scholarly publications. You want to be able to recognize the different parts of an argument and the relationships between them. You also need to be able to draw well-supported conclusions and be able to recognize misunderstandings or points of disagreement. This is your opportunity to demonstrate your ability to identify the flaws in an argument.

When you take the Writing section, you will have 35 minutes to finish your writing sample. The prompt for this part of the LSAT will present you with a decision problem and you must choose between two positions or courses of action and be able to defend your choice. There's no right or wrong position. You simply need to be able to demonstrate your argumentative writing skills. Although this section does not receive a score, you will want to do your best as it will be sent to any law school which receives your LSAT scores. Law schools use the sample to assess your clarity, organization, language usage, and reasoning skills. These are things you can practice with your LSAT instructor. He or she can give you feedback about how to organize your ideas more clearly and how to support your arguments with proper evidence.

How is LSAT tutoring different than other study or educational resources?

Maybe you've already started reviewing for your LSAT or perhaps you are just getting started. Working with an LSAT tutor gives you the opportunity to receive one-on-one instruction to help you wherever you are in your LSAT review. This type of educational setting can create an environment which eliminates distractions and allows you to receive lessons which were designed created with your particular needs in mind. For example, if you prefer to learn using an auditory style, your LSAT instructor can provide podcasts or read passages out loud to help you as you work to improve your reading comprehension or analytical reasoning skills. Alternately, if you are a visual learner, your instructor can assign various videos for you to watch so that you are able to see the material in a new fashion.

LSAT instructors also have the luxury of conducting lessons at the pace which makes you feel most comfortable. This can be impossible in a traditional classroom setting. As an example, if you are struggling with understanding the types of questions found in the Logical Reasoning section, your LSAT instructor can take extra time to explain it until you are ready to move on. Alternately, if you are finding Reading Comprehension questions to be simpler than you expected, your instructor can teach these lessons at a quicker pace or skip over them completely, depending on your mastery of the skills. Your LSAT instructor can work with you to create a plan which takes your goals, weaknesses, and strengths into consideration. With this information, your lesson plans can be customized to your exact needs and can be adjusted anytime as you grow in your skills.

Another benefit of working with a private LSAT instructor is the flexibility to fit this into your schedule. As a working professional or undergraduate student hoping to gain admission to a law school, it is highly likely that your schedule is already full of classes, work, family activities, and other obligations. With Varsity Tutors, we offer two options for meeting with your instructor. We can either connect you with a private instructor online or in person. When you meet with your instructor online, you will be able to access your study sessions using our unique Live Learning Platform. This allows you to have face-to-face private instruction anywhere you can find a computer and high-speed Internet. Using the online option also gives you the benefit of being able to connect with a wider variety of instructors since you were not limited to the instructors available locally. If you select the option of meeting with your instructor in person, you can elect to meet at the time and location of your choice. This allows you to meet your teacher at the local public library, your favorite coffee shop, or in the comfort of your own home. We will do our best to connect you with an instructor who can work within your scheduling requirements. This can allow you to squeeze study sessions in between classes, during your lunch break at work, or on the weekends. No matter which option you choose, Varsity Tutors is here to support you as you work towards your LSAT goals.
