I am currently a Certified Spanish Teacher in the state of Pennsylvania and work as a educator in Philadelphia. Ever since I started working in this multicultural city, I have modified my curriculum to meet the needs of English speakers, Native Spanish speakers and learners with special needs. Also, I focused on developing a safe classroom where my students can feel confortable practicing the Spanish language with their peers and comprehend what I am saying in the target language with the use of gestures, intonation, and images.Currently, I am working on completing online my Masters Degree in Teaching English Learners from the American College of Education. I have a Bachelors Degree in Journalism with a minor in Telecommunications and completed courses in Spanish Language and Education from the Universidad del Sagrado Corazn in Puerto Rico. Before working as a teacher in Philly, I was a newspaper reporter in Puerto Rico where I covered social interest topics and highlighted the positive actions in low income communities in the island.

I graduated from an accelerated BSN program at Texas Tech University. I also have a BS in Zoology from The Ohio State University where I also completed Air Force ROTC. I served 7 years as a commissioned officer in the United States Air Force in charge of air traffic controllers and airfield management personnel. I met my husband while on active duty and after we got engaged, I separated from the Air Force and pursued my passion for nursing. I am excited to share my experience with taking the NCLEX, various study strategies that I learned while in a demanding 12-month accelerated nursing program, and my experience as a graduate nurse in a Level II trauma center. I am a big proponent of understanding the 'why' behind pathophysiology, signs, and symptoms, and nursing interventions. Trying to memorize everything is impossible and will not help you pass the NCLEX, however, if you understand the concept and pathophysiology, you can usually get the right answers and be way more successful.

Education is the gateway to success in today's world, and that is why I value it so highly. Getting a college degree prepares you immeasurably for the workforce and for many different facets of life that lie ahead. This is why I believe it is hugely important to make help readily available to students who require it. This is why I decided to become a tutor.I have been helping friends and classmates with schoolwork for over five years, and I have grown to understand the impact that even just a little help can have on a student. I am passionate about teaching and helping people to understand things that I worked hard to learn. Personally, there are very few greater joys than seeing someone successfully use a concept that you taught them. For a tutor, encountering this joy is a regular thing; it is a major factor of my admission into the field.I understand first hand the benefits that come along with being tutored, as I have been on both ends of the interaction many times. I recently graduated summa cum laud from Taylor University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Philosophy. While there I tutored philosophy, political science, and religious studies students for two years. I am currently working on a Master of Arts in Philosophy at Georgia State University, where I serve as a teaching assistant and writing consultant. I currently tutor in the areas of test preparation, government, philosophy, and religious studies. My passion for education stems from the joy I find in helping students achieve their goals. My teaching style involves asking lots of strategic questions to help students discover answers for themselves, a process which my students typically find quite empowering. Still, I recognize that each student has unique needs, questions, and learning styles, so I strive to listen first and then craft individualized plans to meet each student's particular objectives. In my spare time I like to get outside hiking, playing soccer, or volunteering at my church's community garden. I also enjoy reading, watching football, and cooking.

In my studies I am focusing on Robotics and Control Systems (think developing robots like Boston Dynamics or designing algorithms that allow rockets to land on their own like SpaceX.) I also am a member of Northwestern's solar car racing team, NUSolar, and I am the academic chair for the Tau Delta chapter of the Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity. In my experiences as a student I have realized how important it is to have individuals that are able to help as you progress through school, especially when you are struggling. To this end I want to be a great academic resource for students and help them solidly the concepts which will help them succeed in their academic endeavors and beyond.

For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to be a teacher. I believe that teaching is more than a job, more than a career; it is a calling. Making a difference in the lives of others is important to me. I can't think of another job that offers that opportunity as much as teaching.
