The student and I worked on adding and subtracting integers. She said that she has made 100s on quizzes since I began tutoring her. She was expecting to take a quiz on adding and subtracting integers. I drilled her on each of these operations. She had also been introduced to graphing on the coordinate grid. We also reviewed graphing coordinates. She is highly enthusiastic and steadily showing improvement. I stressed the rules for adding and subtracting integers, and we labeled the quadrants and discussed the signs of the x,y coordinates in each quadrant. We completed a challenge/ mystery graphing activity from her textbook; she thought this was great and I plan to bring additional activities of this sort for our next session. I checked her homework which was all correct. She gave me a copy of the syllabus given her by her teacher. We went over graded papers that she had earned.

We worked on English. I reviewed the student's English diagnostic test. She told me that she does well in English, but she does not understand why she does not score well. We reviewed basic punctuation rules. She completed 2 English passages, answering 10 out of 15 then 11 out of 15 correctly. There are a few more concepts we must cover. She should complete the writing prompt that I gave her and email it to me before our next session.

I have switched gears to review grammar with the student. We went over nouns, verbs, and adjectives. He struggled a little with adjectives, but otherwise he did well. He had to rewrite some sentences and write sentences to the grammar we were covering. We will work further on adjectives.

Today we worked on proofs and proving congruent triangles. These are relatively new concepts for the student and she has a rough understanding of the material. With the material came a lot of new lingo that she needs to get used to using and applying. This will come with practice. I gave her a couple of websites to go to and play around with proofs. This will help her acclimate to the new vocabulary and concepts. Overall, she is doing great.
