Introduced the basics of writing process. Went over the AIMS standards for grade level and above grade level writing. Viewed past writing sample. Gave tips on what could have been improved. Stressed importance of organizing information and reviewing the paper several times. Asked to see a standardized test writing sample for next session.

Tutoring review by Leslie in Hicksville, NY
The student didn't really have any homework since it's the last week of school.  His dad said he was fine with us just doing some reading and making paper masks (which was what the student wanted to do).  We spent 30 minutes reading from one of the student's books - a collection of folktales.  I read one story, then he read one story.  The stories are pretty lengthy so it was a little challenging, but the student did great reading "The Three Billy Goats Gruff"  and didn't seem to tire out - I think it was a good level of difficulty for him.  We spent the remainder of our time doing some papercutting, first the student teaching me to make paper masks, and then me teaching him to make a paper snowflake.  It wasn't an "academic" activity, but it was good practice in focus and following instructions, which he did great at!

Tutoring review by Susan in Hicksville, NY
I had assigned the student a practice GED essay on "what it means to be successful." We discussed her essay, the 5-paragraph essay format, differences between expository versus persuasive writing, and grammar and style. We then spent the rest of the session reviewing geometry concepts: definition and properties of lines and angles; complementary and supplementary angles; right triangles; Pythagorean theorem; distance formula; midpoint formula; and basics of the coordinate plane.

The student  needs more practice, so starting Monday, I will start testing him on vocabulary and watch him do a couple of sections to see how his timing is.    He still has a ways to go to reach the  standard of 217. He will have to practice every day during the summer and review his mistakes in order to improve his score.

Tutoring review by Antonio in Hicksville, NY
I assessed the student's level of Spanish. She has a very good disposition to learn and her Spanish is good enough for the somehow challenging AP Spanish Course. We went through the listening, comprehension, writing and speaking skills that we have to work on to be able to integrate them and reach an advanced use of the Spanish language. I provided her with resources online that she can use by herself and I showed her the resources that we will use in our tutoring sessions to be familiar with them. We have to put language in real use continuously in formal and informal contexts, orally and in writing with plenty of exposure to audio, video and texts from the varied Spanish speaking community.

Tutoring review by Christine in Hicksville, NY
Today the student worked on written assignments pertaining to telling time, question words, clothing, the weather, and present tense verb conjugation. I helped aid with general pronunciation; Special attention was paid to adding proper accents and word order when asking and answering questions. He improved in pronunciation greatly when I made aware of general rules. Through repetition of the words, she is on her way to strengthening her vocabulary and basic writing skills though the completion of the assignments.
