Tutoring review by Laura in Asbury Park, NJ
During today's session, the student completed his math assignment due tomorrow as well as half of a makeup assignment on inverse trigonometry. Partway through working on the inverse trig assignment, it became clear that there were more basic concepts regarding unit circle trigonometry that needed reviewing first, so we skipped back to that section of the book (and corresponding makeup assignment). Overall, the student is generally quick to grasp new concepts and follow through once he sees the pattern. I think it will help to start at the beginning with the basics, and I hope that he sees his efforts paying off soon.

Tutoring review by Abigail in Asbury Park, NJ
The student and I started our first session by getting to know each other a little bit. I tried to get a sense of his attitude towards the material, whether he finds his class interesting, and what his strengths and weaknesses are with regards to Latin. He seems like a strong student: memorization seems to come fairly easily to him, and he seems to have a thorough grasp of grammatical concepts like agreement. Although his class seems like it will ramp up significantly in difficulty soon, if he continues to really apply himself to mastering the fundamentals, he won't have any trouble. He was studying for a test on Chapter Three of Ecce Romani, so our session focused mostly on review. We started by talking in general about the concept of agreement, and the plural and singular forms of nominative 1st and 2nd declension nouns. We then worked through some of the exercises from his text book. Then, we moved on to practicing translation and reviewing vocabulary. We also talked about strategies for taking Latin tests. Moving forward, I will continue to emphasize grammar and translation fundamentals. I may also bring in extra materials to give him extra practice.

Tutoring review by Arjun in Asbury Park, NJ
I focused on diagramming. A complex passage becomes clear when you make a table or a picture. I also encouraged the student to match things up in a disciplined way. Several questions involved analogies or applications of principles. This disciplined matching makes these questions much simpler.

We covered polygons and their various properties. The student had a little trouble figuring out how to solve problems, but it seemed like he knew the concepts. With a little help, he was able to complete his homework with ease.

Tutoring review by Michael in Asbury Park, NJ
The student and I had a really productive session. We worked on reviewing for a high school entrance exam that is coming up. He preformed really well on his readiness pretest, but we pinpointed two areas where he could strengthen his abilities. After we reviewed problems in those areas, I had him teach me the concept. In our last section we are going to make sure no stone is left unturned and that he will pass his test!

I assisted the student with his math homework. I helped him through the problems by pointing him in the right direction. After I explained the concepts to him, he had a better understanding of how to approach the problems.
