I'm a graduate of the School of Engineering at Virginia Commonwealth University (2015). I have a Bachelor's of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering, and am pursuing a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the VCU School of Business. I've been a mentor for the past four years and am very active in my method of tutoring. I have helped several students with official tests and homework assignments.

I am very excited to have the chance to work with students preparing for the PSAT, the SAT, or the LSAT! While I'm originally from Connecticut, I attended college and law school in Buffalo, New York. While there, I worked for a test prep agency helping students prepare for the SAT and the LSAT. In 2003, I moved to Richmond. I worked with the Virginia Department of Taxation for 7 years doing policy work and assisting with the legislative process. In 2011, I began working for Bryant and Stratton College, where I taught students in the Paralegal Studies program. I loved helping my students prepare for new careers. I can't wait to work with you and help you succeed as well!
I am a graduate of Yale University, where I majored in Global Affairs. After graduation, I spent one year at a liberal arts college in Singapore, where I worked in the writing center and mentored students extensively in academic writing. Since then, I have been traveling, while continuing to tutor writing skills online. I emphasize learning how to write a clear, organized, and persuasive argument supported by solid evidence. In addition, I have experience tutoring students one-on-one with academic subjects and test prep. I enjoy helping my students discover the patterns behind the problems in standardized tests, especially in the SAT and LSAT. I believe in a personalized approach, and I love seeing students gain mastery and understanding of these skills. Next Fall I will be attending law school.
I am often asked by friends to help them with their math homework. I have spent countless hours teaching calculus to engineering, computer science, physics, and economics majors. Being one of seven children, I have been helping my sibling with math for as long as I can remember. I believe that a solid understanding of mathematics is crucial to success, and the demand for people with quantitative skills is only growing.
I am currently working on my Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from Virginia Commonwealth University, where I attained my undergraduate degree in Biochemistry. VCU is where I have held bioinorganic research positions as well as teaching positions. I acted as a teaching assistant in various chemistry and biology classes while studying and am currently an adjunct faculty teaching chemistry courses for the university. In addition to Varsity Tutors, I tutor for PCG education where I prepare students at J L Francis Elemetnary School for their mathematics SOLs. Throughout my different experiences with teaching and tutoring, I have found that each individual requires a different teaching style. Adjusting styles to accommodate different learning styles can be difficult at start, but overtime it helps the success of students to achieve their goals.
I am most interested in improving the critical thinking and critical writing skills of students who will comprise the next generation of college graduates and working professionals. The ability to express oneself clearly through writing is an invaluable skill both within academia and the professional workforce. I believe it is my job to provide students with the necessary preparation and skills they will need to succeed in a college environment and beyond. When I am not tutoring, I enjoy reading fiction (with a special soft spot for sci-fi/fantasy), running and training for my next marathon, and experimenting with new recipes in my kitchen.
I am an avid enthusiast for following your passions, no matter what they are. I enjoy teaching and spending time with others. I have a great vast amount of experience tutoring other peers, students, children, etc. I hope that I can help others reach their goals in learning!
I'm a current medical student at VCU School of Medicine, and a graduate of Johns Hopkins University. I received my Bachelor of Science in Molecular and Cellular Biology. I've had the pleasure of tutoring a diverse range of students for 5 years; while I tutor a broad set of subjects, I'm most passionate about biology, psychology, and chemistry. I'm a big proponent of ensuring understanding over memorization and teaching concepts that last for years to come (particularly for other students interested in medicine!) In my free time, I love to write poetry, edit essays, and gush about game writing with friends.
I am a recent graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University, where I earned a Bachelors of Science in Biology. Throughout my three years of undergrad, I have been a preceptor for Cell Biology and Genetics. In addition, I was a supplemental instruction leader in CHEM 101 and CHEM 102. I am currently a Medical Scribe, but I will be attending VCOM for medical school starting Fall 2018.
I am a sophomore electrical engineering student and member of the honors college at Virginia Commonwealth University. I recently graduated from Maggie L. Walker Governor's School in June of 2017. I have a passion for mathematics, especially calculus, and am excited to share my knowledge with others.
I am a current third-year student at Virginia Commonwealth University. I am in the BS/MD Guaranteed Admissions program for Medicine at VCU, and I am majoring in Biology with a minor in Business and a minor in Dance. I am originally from Phoenix, Arizona and I have a passion for teaching. I have had lots of experience with tutoring and also in a large variety of subjects. I worked at a place called "The Tutoring Center" for 8 months where I had the opportunity to teach students aged 5 through 18 in varying levels of Math, English, and Writing. I have also been now tutoring with Varsity for nearly 2 years. While I tutor in a large variety of subjects, I am especially passionate about teaching Math, Chemistry, Biology, and also tutoring in Standardized Test prep such as for the SAT, PSAT, and ACT.
I am currently a first-year medical student at Virginia Commonwealth University. I have a huge passion for science, and would love to help out whoever I can, especially those interested in entering the medical field!

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, Varsity Tutors connects students across all 8 of Richmond's school districts with personalized tutoring support. Whether your student attends a Richmond Public Schools campus, a charter school, or a private institution, we match them with tutors who understand Virginia's curriculum standards and can support their specific academic goals.
Richmond students frequently seek support in math, English/language arts, and standardized test preparation—particularly for SOL (Standards of Learning) exams that are critical in Virginia. We also see strong demand for science tutoring and college prep support as students work toward meeting Virginia's graduation requirements and preparing for college entrance exams.
Personalized 1-on-1 instruction is highly effective for helping students master the specific content and skills tested on Virginia's Standards of Learning exams. Varsity Tutors connects Richmond students with tutors who are familiar with SOL benchmarks and can target gaps in understanding, build test-taking strategies, and provide focused practice in the areas where your student needs the most support.
Your first session is designed to build rapport and assess your student's current level, learning style, and specific academic needs. The tutor will discuss your goals—whether that's improving grades, preparing for SOLs, or getting ahead in a particular subject—and create a personalized plan tailored to help your Richmond student succeed.
Richmond's average classroom has about 14 students per teacher, which means individual attention is limited. Personalized 1-on-1 tutoring allows a tutor to focus entirely on your student's unique learning style, pace, and gaps in understanding. This focused attention helps students progress faster and build confidence in ways that larger classroom settings often can't provide.
Absolutely. While we specialize in core subjects like math, English, science, and social studies, Varsity Tutors also connects Richmond students with tutors in foreign languages, test prep (SAT, ACT, AP exams), music, and other subjects. If you're looking for support in a specific area, let us know and we'll work to find the right match.
We carefully consider your student's academic needs, learning style, personality, and schedule when connecting them with a tutor. Our matching process focuses on finding someone who not only has expertise in your student's subject area but also understands how to teach in a way that resonates with them—whether that's visual learners, hands-on learners, or those who need extra encouragement.
You'll see progress through improved grades, stronger performance on assessments like SOLs, and increased confidence in the subject area. We encourage regular communication between you, your student, and their tutor so you can track improvements together. Many Richmond parents notice changes within just a few weeks—from better homework completion to higher test scores and a more positive attitude toward learning.
