I graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a degree in creative writing. I'm currently a filmmaker based in Brooklyn, NY. Since graduating I've worked extensively with an organization called the Creative Mind Group, a non-profit that pairs college-aged students with prestigious internships at film festivals around the globe. I've worked with students internationally in Berlin, the Cannes Film Festival, and the Sundance Film Festival in Utah.
I've had a rich and interesting tutoring experience, having taught jazz piano, chess, video editing, and even taught basic English skills to Japanese speakers over Skype. For the past year I've volunteered with NY Cares, an organization that brings high-quality after-school programs to low income communities.
I've always excelled both academically and in standardized tests. I know that intelligent and targeted private instruction has helped me all throughout my academic career. I'd love to fulfill that role for a student who's looking for that bit of extra help. I am most passionate about teaching reading and writing skills.
I believe that learning should be fun but not without rigor. If I can figure out a hook to engage a student in the material, then I think I've done a good job.
