Session Summaries by ISEE Tutors

ISEE Tutoring review by Sherry in Connecticut
The student practiced verbal reasoning and writing. She completed 2 timed verbal reasoning practice exams, scoring 82% and 85%. She should focus on sentence completion where half of the sentence is given with the other half of the sentence to be selected from 4 choices. Her writing is much improved; she should continue to practice her writing skills, paying careful attention to clause placement.

ISEE Tutoring review by Cheryl in Connecticut
We started by reviewing the student's vocabulary homework. She seems to have learned them all. We will therefore continue to use this as our primary way to increase synonym and sentence completion scores. The vocabulary book also provides some basic reading comprehension, allowing us to focus more on math in our sessions. For math, I had assigned algebra. We reviewed arithmetic basics, such as fractions/decimals, negative numbers, and the general vocabulary used in math.

ISEE Tutoring review by Michael in Connecticut
Today, me and the student worked on both the Quantitative Reasoning and Mathematics Achievement of the placement exam lower level. We also practiced long division and calculations with fractions such as simplifying, multiplying, and adding. The student showed strength in the Mathematics Achievement section of the test. He does however, need to review his multiplication tables.

The student and I covered some more material for the placement exam. His math skills are great, but he has to independently review and memorize vocabulary and practice more reading comprehension. Grammar skills are good.

ISEE Tutoring review by Kim in Connecticut
Today we worked in the student's two study guides. We started by reviewing fractions. He did well adding and subtracting even when the denominators were unlike. We worked on basic algebra, he was able to solve for the variable in single step equations. We then discussed strategies for reading comprehension. We broke down a selection and used the process of elimination to narrow down the answer choices.

ISEE Tutoring review by Sarah Brooke in Connecticut
Today I worked with Student 1 first. We went over the two sections she did for me. She is improving in all sections, getting one or two less wrong each time. She's excelling in quantitative and reading, and still needs some help with verbal and math achievement. We worked on a math achievement practice test, and I assigned her a math achievement section in her workbook for next Friday. Next, I worked with Student 2. We went over the answers she got wrong on her math achievement section, and overall I was very impressed with how she did- 70th percentile! She shows improvement in her math skills every week. Then, we did a practice verbal section on and she needs to use her reasoning more. When she eliminates wrong answers rationally, she does very well. She needs to not jump to the first one that looks right. I assigned her own verbal section to do for Friday.
