I love teaching science. My experience ranges from early elementary to college physics instructor. I follow a constructivist instruction philosophy where learning is built upon models and not focused on memorization or formula recall. I believe a solid conceptual foundation is essential for true and lasting learning.

I am a graduate of Grand Valley State University, where I received my Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Education with a minor in Psychology. I'm currently finishing my masters at The University of Chicago in Analytics. Between undergrad and graduate school, I spent 4 years teaching math in the Englewood neighborhood of Chicago. I still keep up with my former students, and am always a zoom call away if they ever need my help. I've taught Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Algebra II and Pre-Calc in the classroom setting, and have experience tutoring a range of subjects including Calculus and Statistics at the college level. I have extensive experience with ACT and SAT prep, as I ran ACT and SAT Bootcamps at the high school I taught at. I am passionate about teaching and understand that students have a variety of learning styles. I'm an energetic math teacher who loves to help students increase their motivation. As part of tutoring, I like to help students strengthen their problem solving skills, and help them know what to do when they feel stuck.
I have been teaching High School Math for 16 years. I earned my Bachelor of Arts from Grand Valley State University in 2010 and my Master of Art from Western Governors University in 2015. I tutor an array of Secondary Math Classes from Middle School Math, Pre-Algebra all the way up through Algebra 2. I love Math and have a passion for building student confidence in their math abilities. I believe that all students can do math as long as it is explained in a way that applies to them. I love finding new ways to explain concepts to ensure that all students can understand the concepts. In my spare time, I enjoy going on adventures with my family, camping, kayaking and generally being outdoors.
Enthusiastic and organized tutor with an emphasis in Spanish, English, and writing. I look forward to continuing to build a long-term career as an educator and to share my passion for learning and student development.I have been teaching Spanish for 5 years and I am excited to share my love of the language and culture with other learners.
I graduated from Grand Valley State University, where I received my Bachelor's of Arts in French Language and Culture with a minor in Anthropology. My chosen emphasis was in literature with a focus on the Medieval and Renaissance periods, however, my personal favorites are the 17th and 18th centuries. In high school and college I participated in freshman acclimation programs, to assist students through the transition into the next phase on their educational journey. I believe that with education and the understanding of other cultures, a bright and caring mind will form. While I tutor mainly French, I am currently working towards obtaining a degree in Environmental Science.
Hello to all you brilliant minds of the future! Education is my passion, and I would love to aid you in yours. I have a year of experience instructing students at the collegiate level. My class sizes have been small at 10-13 students, so my personal teaching style caters towards meeting a student's individual needs. I have ample experience tutoring and teaching one-on-one between peers and teaching ESL online.I am a recent college graduate, so I remember very well the process of learning new material. My 4 year degree was earned at Grand Valley State University where I majored in Biomedical Science. This degree drew upon many disciplines where I have consequently gained a holistic and integrative understanding of the sciences. When it comes to turoring, I strongly believe in not just teaching the "whats", but also the "whys". I have found that using real world comparisons and a mixture of visual examples makes the material relatable and retainable. My goal as a tutor is not just to help you get over a few rough patches, but to build upon your critical thinking and analysis skills. I believe that the process of learning is more than just mastering material: it's mastering a way to conquer new challenges and obstacles in your path.
I am a graduate of Grand Valley University with a Bachelors of Psychology. Since graduation, I have found a passion in working with and teaching children. I found this through my experience working at a daycare/learning center. In this position, I worked with a range of children between the age of 3 weeks to 12 years old, caring for them and providing an environment that allowed them to learn and grow. From there, I wanted to expand my experience in the classroom and took a role as a building substitute teacher at an elementary school. Through this, I worked in all elementary grades, teaching a variety of subjects and learned a lot about myself and how important adaptability is. I am excited to see what the future of my educational career holds for me as I plan to go back to school for my Masters in Special Education.
I am passionate about supporting the success of those students I work with. I enjoy helping students develop personal study habits that lead to success in any subject. I am committed to helping nursing students who are working on certifications and/or preparing for test-taking be successful by providing tools and strategies that support their success. I hold an Associate's degree in Science, a Bachelor's degree in Nursing, a Master's degree in Nursing with a focus on Management and Leadership, and a certification in Medicaid Managed Care. I enjoy educating students on personal learning styles and how to improve study skills.
I am a graduate of Grand Valley State University with a major in biology, a minor in mathematics, and a provisional teaching certificate for secondary education (grades 7-8 all subjects; grades 9-12 biology and math). I also have advanced degrees in biochemistry, physiology, cell and molecular biology. While a graduate student at the University of Illinois, I taught introductory and advanced courses in biology as a teaching assistant. I am passionate about biology, or shall I say, the study of life. As a scientist in the biotech industry, I used my math and chemistry skills daily. My teaching/tutoring style is to impart enough information and understanding of a topic to direct a learner toward self-education and problem solving. My style is not to provide the answer, but to guide one in knowing how to arrive at the answer. This approach has served me well in my professional career, as well as in my personal life. I find myself always challenged with learning new things, and self-learning is the key. For example, to advance my professional career, I took an online course in statistics. In my personal life, in order to become a better coach to my sons baseball team, I went to the web and studied videos on fielding, batting, throwing and pitching, and used this knowledge to run practices and develop players. My professional career has been in biotech, where I have been a mentor and trainer to colleagues, and an educator and resource to customers toward understanding the application of advanced technologies. Also, as part of my professional career, I had the opportunity to live in France and to further develop my French language skills. After moving to the US from Montreal, I took French language classes to continue to develop my grammar. As an adult, I lived in France for two years and received a Diplome de Langue Francaise avec mention assez bien (high honors) through Alliance Francaise. I enjoy sharing this language and culture with others.I am looking for new students who are eager to learn, and who want to develop their own learning skills. You may be struggling with a subject, but with time, patience, practice and a tutoring approach geared toward your learning style, you will succeed, grow confident, master a subject, and become a self-learner.
