Tutoring review by Mark in Glen Ridge, NJ
The student and I covered basic questions associated with distributive property and long division. He seemed to make progress throughout the session, and both categories of practice tested his times tables, which we continue to work on. H had a test this past week, so we covered Lessons 1, 2, 7, and 8 in his book. He ad a homework assignment that asked beginning algebra questions. The problems were multi-step, and they tested long division, times tables, and 2-digit multiplication skills. As he completed some of the problems, he remembered covering these topics in class. He has math quizzes occasionally, and he said he would keep them when her teacher hands them back.

We spent time finding two trig angles using periodic formulas, and the student did really well with this. He definitely knew how to do the problems once we got through the first two. He had a few more problems left to finish before our next session.

This included completing a values table, determining the range and domain, and writing a next-now equation. The student did very well with the exercises and made only simple calculation errors.

Today the student and I reviewed simplifying radicals. She seemed confused at first, but then I got her to change the way that she was thinking about combining radicals. In the end, she realized that the problems looked much more difficult than they actually were and did a really great job!
