I am a recent Cornell University graduate (Dec '23) majoring in Biological Sciences with a focus on Genetics, Genomics, and Development. My passion lies in healthcare, as I am currently preparing to attend medical school this upcoming fall. However, I have always had an interest in teaching. I started as a general chemistry TA, supporting students during problem solving sessions. Then, I helped teach our genetics lecture course, coordinating individual and group tutoring sessions that guided students in content application. This position transformed into a leadership role, organizing our teaching team while spearheading an initiative to train fellow teaching assistants in pedagogical techniques that I learned in a course I took on the art of teaching. Lastly, in an ethics of medicine course of non-STEM majors, I prepared and facilitated discussion sections on current topics in personalized medicine. These experiences, combined with my time as a teaching assistant in correctional facilities, helped me grow as a varsity tutor now going into my 4th year on this platform. Given this breadth of experience teaching diverse and unique students, I am eager and excited to support young scientists in any subject related to this field.

I am originally from Brooklyn, New York and am currently working towards a master's degree in Nutrition from Columbia University. Prior to graduate studies, I received my bachelor's from Cornell University in the biological sciences. Outside of my academic life I enjoy cooking, dancing, horseback riding, and traveling. I have always made myself available as a tutor to my peers, but my formal tutoring experience began in my freshman year of college when I offered chemistry tutoring. Throughout my college career I have offered assistance with general biology, general chemistry, biochemistry, and microbiology. As a former student in the busy NYC public school system, I am aware that many students do not succeed fully solely given the limited learning styles used widely in schools. As a tutor I am honored to supplement schoolwork with individualized attention to meet your learning needs and help you succeed!
I began pursuing my D.V.M. degree at the Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine after graduating from Eastern Michigan University in 2012 with a degree in Biology. Following my first year of vet school I decided to take some time off to study advanced Mandarin Chinese at Tsinghua University in Beijing with other Mandarin speaking students from around the world. I currently work as a professional Medical Mandarin Chinese interpreter while continuing my second year of veterinary studies at Cornell. My teaching experience is diverse, ranging from leading English classes in Beijing China to running a Medical Mandarin Chinese course for vet students at Cornell University. I have also worked with students taking high school and college level biology and Chinese courses. My favorite subject to tutor is Mandarin Chinese, because I know exactly how to help new or experienced learners advance their skills rapidly and efficiently and I really enjoy seeing students make breakthroughs on the way to fluency in Chinese. Between the four tones of spoken Mandarin and the 4,000 plus characters there are plenty of obstacles to overcome when learning Mandarin Chinese. I enjoy using innovative methods to provide tips and reveal patterns in Chinese language that help students make the learning process not only more intuitive but also enjoyable. As a tutor I consider each students learning style and needs unique and work specifically to come up with goals that address areas of interest and to tackle particularly challenging issues within each subject.
I am a sophomore at Cornell University studying Computer Science.I enjoy working with students and for the past two years, I have privately tutored students for standardized tests and through the college application process. I believe that standardized testing is not a direct assessment of a student's academic abilities, but rather their specific abilities as a test-taker; my role as a tutor is to instill time-management skills and provide tips on effectively navigating through these exams in order to enable students to become better test-takers.In the realm of mathematics and computer science however, I believe in a proof-based education and truly understanding why theorems work as they do.
I am a creative whose ingenuity and nuanced insight is devoted to investigating the art of both expression and design. A professional with work experiences spanning scientific research, writing instruction/tutoring, and design in the field of technology, I have not only been able to witness the instrument of writing come into play distinctly for each specialty, but also realized exactly how to help the modern student tackling the ACT, SAT, and college admissions season in all of today's digital chaos. Hire me for a timeless, yet keen mentor who is dedicated to not only helping you get your foot in the door of your dream program(s) and school(s), but inspiring you to gain the type of confidence and understanding that will ultimately help propel you towards success in any and all of your future endeavors, since the art of expression in all of its various forms (for here, we will focus on writing) are oftentimes pivotal towards unlocking the doors you wouldn't have even known existed.
I am a rising sophomore at Cornell University. I am studying Statistics and Economics, with possible minors in information science and computer science. I have been working with students for several years now and have provided academic support to my peers throughout my time as a high school and now college student. Through my religious school, I taught students of all ages, ranging from Pre-K through 8th Grade. In high school, I helped prepare students for AP, SAT, ACT, and SAT subject tests as part of my role in the National Honor Society. I have considerable personal experience with a vast array of subjects and love sharing my knowledge and experience with others. From calculus to creative writing, I have a genuine passion for all academic pursuits and helping others feel the same way.
My goal is to help you learn difficult concepts and prepare you for your standardized tests. I hope to make you reach your potential and assist you in increasing your scores. I have taught ACT prep courses in the past, and I know the strategies of how to pace yourself through the test. My teaching style consists of asking you a lot of questions so that I know your thought process. After listening to how you're processing the information, I can point out the words that you may have missed on the first round of reading. As for my personal background, I have obtained a BA from Cornell University in China and Asia Pacific Studies and a minor in Business. After college, my academic interests have changed to now include data science and artificial intelligence.
I am a Cornell University sophomore studying Mechanical Engineering with a strong background in math, physics, and computer science. I understand firsthand how challenging material can feel under pressure, which is why I approach tutoring with patience and clear goal-setting. I was a mathematics and english tutor at Kumon for 4 years while teaching students from grades 1-11. Additionally, I have tutored French students to increase their aptitude in English. Having learned English as a second language, I am very intentional about how I explain concepts. I emphasize intuition over memorization, and adjust my approach to each student's learning style. Furthermore, I focus on helping students build confidence and independent problem-solving skills. I care deeply about student progress and treat each student's goals as my responsibility.
I am a graduate from Cornell University where I received a bachelor's degree in Biological Engineering with a minor in Mechanical Engineering. For several years, I have always had a passion for tutoring/teaching others around me whether they were children, classmates or adults much older than I. From my studies, my favorite subjects to help with were Mathematics and Physics; they are closely integrated with each other and personally it is rewarding when my students understand concepts that they initially struggled with. As for my past tutoring experience, I volunteered teaching GED courses around the Brooklyn area. I also took up private one to one sessions with locals who requested my help in subjects. Currently I am teaching an after-school program where I show middle school students STEM related topics through hands on activities. I am also volunteering with SAT Math through Brooklyn College on Saturdays and I am a part time bartender around the Park Slope area. When I am not busy working, I enjoy cycling, playing video games, and just kicking it back with friends.
I studied "Policy Analysis and Management" at Cornell University (economics, econometrics, and public policy), and I'm looking forward to pursuing graduate studies in the fall for Environmental Management. During the past 3 years, I've been fortunate to travel and work on different organic farms and sustainable land stewardship projects; I'm hoping that my graduate studies will offer an opportunity to merge my formal academic training with my recent experiences working with the land. Can't wait to get to know you, and help you work towards your goals!
As a recent graduate from Cornell University with a degree in biological sciences and someone who plans to attend medical school in the future, my passion and appreciation for the sciences and medicine is something I consider integral to my identity. My favorite subjects to tutor are biology and chemistry as those are the subjects in which I have past teaching experience in the classroom setting. In particular, my teaching style focuses on rephrasing and remodeling initially daunting concepts and information into bite-sized and digestible bits of information that any student can comprehend. I firmly believe that a lot of what slows students down in the learning process is their preconceived notions of course material. My passion for helping students stems from my experiences as an undergraduate where I can remember on countless occasions feeling lost in the material with little direction on how to approach the curriculum. I can think back to the many times I would have benefitted from having someone who could have guided me through stretches of daunting coursework which led me to become a tutor myself. As a teaching assistant, I discovered my passion for helping students manage their way through courses that many considered to be very difficult. Seeing how they reacted to my assistance reminded me why I applied for the position in the first place and motivates me to help students learn more every single day.
I recently graduated magna cum laude with honors from Messiah University (located near Harrisburg, PA) with a B.S. in biochemistry (ACS certified). This fall I will be starting a biochemistry Ph.D. at Cornell University. While a student at Messiah, I served as a supplemental instruction leader for general chemistry courses. This involved sitting in on the lectures and holding two 90 minute review sessions each week in which I would create worksheets and activities to help students to learn and retain the information from the course. I really enjoy working with students in chemistry and biology courses, as I love sharing my passion for science with others. Furthermore, I believe that students have different learning styles and as a tutor it is my job to accommodate whichever learning style best suits each student. I value getting to know my students on a personal level as well as an academic level in order to best help them succeed. Outside of academics, I'm an avid distance runner, love hiking and being outside, listening to music, and doing jigsaw puzzles.
In regards to English language, I would be happy to help you with your college application essays. I recently graduated from Cornell University and am current a graduate student in Columbia University's Graduate School for English.Throughout my undergraduate studies, I have helped many students formulate and write their personal statement. Additionally, I have written many of my own personal statements which have helped me gain university admission and scholarship. Therefore, I understand how stressful it can be to write a personal statement and supplementary statements for colleges.I truly believe a well formulated personal statement can make an application stand out and garner momentum to help colleges view the applicant as an individual rather than gpa data. I will make sure your essay reflects your particularity and illustrate what makes you a great fit for [insert dream school name].In regards to mathematics, I have always loved the subject and have tutored maths and physics for over 8 years up to the AP BC calculus level.I believe mathematics is very easy if taught correctly. Teachers and professors who have been teaching a math for many years may grow accustomed to their own teaching styles. Therefore, they may assume that a student remembers a specific concept, and rather than going over said concept, they hastily build upon misunderstood fundamentals. When I was in university, I understand that maths can be challenging for a lot of people because teacher and professors may explain math as if they are talking to other mathematicians. Teachers often do not realized that their students are new to math and are not yet scholars. Please feel free to reach out to me. I look forward to working with you.
As a passionate educator with a Doctorate in Biomedical Engineering from Cornell University, I am committed to helping students excel in subjects such as algebra, chemistry, and biology. My tutoring experience includes working with middle and high school students, where I focus on understanding each student's unique learning style and tailoring lessons to address their specific needs. I believe in fostering a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and exploring complex concepts. My enthusiasm for organic chemistry and biology stems from my academic journey, during which I conducted research in these fields, igniting my desire to share this knowledge with others. I aim to inspire curiosity and confidence in my students, guiding them to achieve their academic goals through personalized instruction and engaging problem-solving techniques.
Currently I am a graduate student in Stanford University's Master's Program for Human Genetics and Genetic Counseling. Prior to my enrollment at Stanford, I worked as a Genetic Counseling Assistant for Igenomix, a genetic testing laboratory. I graduated from Cornell University in December of 2021 with a BS in Biological Sciences and a minor in Education. As a student, I was a member of a research lab that works with the genetic basis of epilepsy in fruit flies as well as an undergraduate TA for a genetics laboratory course at Cornell. While I tutor a range of subjects, I am most passionate about tutoring biology and genetics, as that is where most of my expertise lies. I have enjoyed tutoring SAT and ACT math and science sections in the past and have found students have great success on these stressful tests after seeking out help from tutors like me. In my free time I love watching TV shows with my friends, being active, and painting. I am also a Crisis Text Line volunteer and enjoy taking shifts to help people through difficult times.
Throughout my academic and professional careers, I have always enjoyed mentoring younger individuals through activities like tutoring and advising. During my undergraduate career at Cornell University, I served as an orientation leader and student adviser for classmates in my major. While pursuing my MBA at Columbia Business School, I participated in the Harlem Tutorial Program, where I worked across a range of subjects with elementary and middle school students. I enjoy finding new ways to help others through my own knowledge and experience, and always try to use methods that resonate most with the specific person I am working with.
After graduating from Cornell University with my Bachelors in Physics and German Studies, I am currently enrolled in the Materials Science and Engineering PhD program at the University of Michigan. I enjoy tutoring students because I was once on the other side of the table! While at Cornell, a physics graduate student provided me with supportive, concept-based, and empathetic tutoring that greatly increased my self-confidence and mastery of the course material. In my tutoring sessions, I use many techniques which I learned from him, and my #1 goal is to empathize with the student and make them feel valued despite their academic struggles. My tutoring sessions focus on helping the student understand the "why" -- "why is equation X appropriate and not equation Y?". From my own experience, this approach allows students to fully understand the course material and apply it in a variety of settings, from academia to careers and internships.I have completed over 500 hours of tutoring at 3 different companies, and have proofread cover letters and resumes for adults seeking new job opportunities. I continue to keep my German skills sharp by regularly watching German television and news, and have achieved CEFR Level C2 Proficiency (highest possible) in all areas of the German language (reading, writing, speaking, and listening).
As a Mechanical Engineering student at Cornell University, I have a strong foundation in math and problem-solving. My experiences as an Audible intern, marching band president, and church media team leader have helped me develop communication, leadership, and mentoring skills. I recently graduated from Cornell University where I received my Bachelors of Science with a major in Atmospheric Science and dual minors in Climate Change and Applied Economics. At Cornell, I was the Education & Outreach Chair for our Meteorology Club. I look forward to working with you on anything science or math. My specialties include physical sciences (Earth Science, Environmental Science, Physics) and math (algebra, pre-calculus, calculus, statistics). Since graduating, I have taken a job as a substitute teacher and a part-time meteorologist! My tutoring style is generally for me to do an example then allow you to try before giving away any answers. My personal favorite subject to tutor is Earth Science because I get to use my background in meteorology! Outside of tutoring, I enjoy attending concerts, cooking/baking, biking, and DJing. I'd love to hear about some of your favorite bands!

I am a junior at Cornell University where I am working toward a Bachelor of Arts in Physics. In the past, I have worked at Kumon as a math and reading tutor. I am most passionate about teaching Math, Physics, and Spanish. I try to bring that passion to each tutoring session so that the lessons are both interesting and enriching. My ultimate goal is simple: when a student is able to explain a topic or even teach it back to me, I am confident that they have truly mastered the material.
I am currently a rising junior at Cornell University studying physics. I have worked with students of the elementary, middle, and high school levels in subjects such as math, physics, and even music production! I mainly focus on tutoring math and physics because I believe having a deep understanding of these subjects allows one to think more analytically of the world around us. I also believe in getting to know how a student learns best, as everyone learns differently, and tailoring lessons with that learning method in mind.
Math is a language; it is creative, intuitive and serves a purpose. As a tutor I will help you master it with the fewest formulas to memorize and the most conceptual understanding, so that you will not forget everything a year later or blank out during an exam. This is the learning approach I used as an engineer in Italy, as an MBA student at CUNY, and in my PhD coursework at Cornell University. Also, it is the same approach I successfully shared as a teacher with math students of the Bronx Community College and Operations Management students of Baruch College and the Cornell Graduate School. Whether statistics, management or psychology majors, or new freshmen, they usually are able to grasp the "grammar rules" of a linear algebra problem before I proceed to formally state the theorem to be applied. While I continue today with my research work on probability models and my full-time college teaching, I enjoy guiding high school or older students, and middle school students beyond their grade level, through most mathematical subjects, statistics, management, and test prep. Now a long time New Yorker, I also enjoy the city by bike and the occasional getaway by hike, kayak, or cross country skis. I enjoy traveling, healthy cooking, and sharing the culture and language of my home country, Italy, with students and friends from all over the world.
Be Fun. Be Empowering. Be Productive. That's my goal in every session and I have the character traits to make sure that happens. I offer students an enjoyable experience with my humor and relevant examples. As a student myself, I know how to encourage students to ensure they feel confident about content and confident applying their knowledge. I have a strong discipline and stay task-oriented so that students leave every session taking a step forward towards mastering their subject.I am currently a senior at Cornell University studying Biology with a concentration on Neurobiology and Behavior. I'm also minoring in business. All that to say, I want to become a doctor, I love to think, and I have the spirit of an entrepreneur!I want to tutor and teach in order to pass on what I've learned and help others learn. I've been the benefactor of tutoring throughout high school and even now in college. I believe it can truly change a student's academic prospect. For me, tutoring goes beyond helping a student solve a problem. It's helping students to enjoy the process of thinking for themselves and struggling through material. I hope that, with this position on Varsity Tutors, I can do that over and over again.
