My name is Apoorva and I am a rising senior at Cornell University. I am majoring in Chemical Engineering and minoring in business. I have been teaching since high school and have been conducting my own 2 hour weekly supplemental course in math and chemistry for the past 2 years. I have TAed many Chemical Engineering courses such as introduction to chemical engineering, chemical engineering process and design, and reactor design& kinetics. I love helping people understand difficult concepts. I look forward to working with you!

I am a graduate of Cornell University with a BS in Biological Sciences, where I started tutoring students one-on-one in calculus. Since then, I have also served multiple times as a teaching assistant, both at the undergraduate and graduate level. Currently as a MS student at the University of Illinois, I tutor online, mainly for high school and college students in math and science. Understanding beats memorization every time! Understand the "why" and "how" of the topic; don't just memorizing facts. This is especially important for FRQs, word problems, and more advanced topics that require analysis of the material, beyond simple regurgitation of lectures. No question is too small to make sure that the foundational and basic knowledge is solid. I always have fun tutoring. I love the topics I teach, and I'm sure you will too!
I graduated Cornell University magna cum laude with degrees in History and Philosophy. After graduation, I consulted for two years and helped build Hawaii's new Health Insurance Marketplace. I also created an educational current events newsletter. I then joined a start up in NYC where I mentored and coached two analysts. I was most drawn to the teaching side of these experiences and find that the skills translate well to tutoring when complemented with my passion for history, English, writing, philosophy, and persuasive argumentation. In the tradition of philosophy, I feel tutoring is most effective using a Socratic dialogue approach, asking the right questions to guide the student to understanding. During my free time, I enjoy traveling, calisthenics, soccer, guitar and live music, reading history and science fiction, and keeping in touch with friends. I plan on attending law school in the near future.
I graduated from Cornell University with a B.S. in Human Development, and a minor in Educational Studies. As part of my coursework, I spent much time working in K-12 classrooms, helping students garner valuable skills to succeed! Since graduation, I have started working at an academically enriching, after-school program for elementary school students. My favorite subject to tutor is Elementary Math because I enjoy getting the opportunity to work with young students whose educational trajectory can be significantly impacted by my help! I also enjoy tutoring the ACT because I like seeing how elated students are when their hard work begins to pay off, and their test scores rise.I believe that individualization of instruction is crucial to academic success because students are able to get targeted feedback on their own strengths and weaknesses, not the entire class's strengths and weaknesses. I also seek to be personally approachable to students because when there is a divide between tutor and tutoree, I do not believe that the student learns as much as they potentially can. I see the tutoring relationship as a two-way avenue in which both parties learn valuable, new skills throughout sessions. In my spare time, I like to spend time with my friends and family, volunteer, bake, play sports and read!
Hi, I am currently studying Computer Science at Cornell University and would love to help anyone with STEM related fields and SAT/ACT Math test prep.
I am a 99th percentile scorer on the LSAT with law school acceptances all across the T14 including Stanford, Columbia, NYU, and the University of Pennsylvania who is looking to help students achieve the score of their dreams. I tutor the LSAT Analytical Reasoning (games) and LSAT Logical Reasoning sections, and I also enjoy tutoring AP Government and the SAT Reading and Verbal sections. I am a recent graduate of Cornell University and I received a Bachelor of Science in Industrial and Labor Relations with a minor in Law and Society. Before deciding to be a full-time tutor ahead of starting law school in the fall, I was a management consultant helping Fortune 500 companies find solutions to their toughest problems. My tutoring style emphasizes the fact that each student learns differently, so I tailor a custom curriculum according to each student's specific needs. Following that custom curriculum, we work together until each student achieves their goals!
I am a student at Cornell University pursuing a double major in Biological Sciences, concentrating in computational biology, and Computer Science. I have tutored math, biology, physics, and French to middle school and high school students. I have also facilitated group discussion sessions for English language learners. I love learning new things and helping others understand these concepts as well.
I am a rising sophomore at Cornell University, studying Human Biology, Health and Society. I am on the premed track and am pursuing a minor in South Asian Studies. I was born in India and grew up in Singapore and Buffalo, NY, where I currently live. This past semester, I tutored middle and high school students in math, biology, and chemistry in Ithaca. I also particularly enjoy tutoring for standardized tests such as the ACT, as I feel it is where students are able to make a lot of progress quickly, and it also tends to be the most rewarding for both the students and for me! As someone who loves making organized and detailed plans, I believe having a clear set of goals for one's future is the key to success, and this can be applied to anything, from a single test to one's entire career. I would love to help my students with setting goals and making plans in their high school and/or college careers, in addition to tutoring a specific subject! In college, I am most involved with Cornell's Hindu Student Council and SPICMACAY, an Indian classical music and dance organization. Outside of academia, I sing South Indian classical music and play many different genres of the piano.
Hello! I am a Ph.D. student at the University of Texas at Austin studying Computational Science. I graduated cum laude from Cornell University with a B.Sc. in Computer Science. My doctoral studies fall at the overlap of mathematics, computer science, and physics. I enjoy coding software that adheres to professional coding standards but deals with solving complex physical problems. I have half a decade of experience coding in C/C++/Java. Some of the extensive projects that I have built include a microkernel in C, a puzzle video game in C++ and a compiler in Java.Over the past few years, I have tutored students in senior level college computer science courses in operating systems and computer vision. I enjoy teaching and I look forward to working with students who not only want to master the course material but also want to learn more about the subject.
Education has been one of my main passions since I was young and would play school with my little brother. I recently graduated from Cornell University where I received my Bachelors of Science with a major in Atmospheric Science and dual minors in Climate Change and Applied Economics. At Cornell, I was the Education & Outreach Chair for our Meteorology Club. I look forward to working with you on anything science or math. My specialties include physical sciences (Earth Science, Environmental Science, Physics) and math (algebra, pre-calculus, calculus, statistics). Since graduating, I have taken a job as a substitute teacher and a part-time meteorologist! My tutoring style is generally for me to do an example then allow you to try before giving away any answers. My personal favorite subject to tutor is Earth Science because I get to use my background in meteorology! Outside of tutoring, I enjoy attending concerts, cooking/baking, biking, and DJing. I'd love to hear about some of your favorite bands!
My goal as a teacher is to impart knowledge of the subject matter and enthusiasm for the material to as many students as possible. Making the material enjoyable to students requires employing multiple methods for teaching the subject matter. Each student will approach a subject from a different background, each student will learn most effectively through a different method, and each course will require a different technique.Having served as a teaching assistant at three different universities, I have experience at connecting with students regardless of the campus, class sizes, and student backgrounds. My biggest strength as a teaching assistant and a lecturer has been my ability to connect with students with diverse backgrounds enough so they feel comfortable approaching me with questions or concerns about the material. My students have a diverse range of educational and economic backgrounds, so I have to cater the material accordingly. Classes I have served as a TA for include thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and materials science. I have also taught chemical engineering thermodynamics and tutored ACT/SAT/PSAT prep for high school students, and high school math and science. In addition, I have worked in various biological and engineering labs over the years, so I have technical expertise in many general undergraduate science classes. One of my main goals as an educator is to produce students that both feel confident in their own abilities to do independent work while also knowing when and how to rely on individuals with other skill sets to help fill in the gaps. While my students submit homework and tests individually, projects are conducted as group work, and I encourage students to work collaboratively while solving homework problems. This is to encourage better material understanding and a necessary skill in teamwork, while also making sure students are taking some initiative and are not completely reliant upon their classmates.I hope this gives you a sense for the kind of tutor I will be. Please let me know if you have any questions.
I LOVE working with students! I recently finished my PhD at Cornell University in Biochemistry, Molecular and Cell Biology. I have spent the past 10+ years working with many different students in lots of different subjects including general and organic chemistry, biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology, MCAT test prept, SAT Chem Subject Test, and even general study and organizational skills! I have worked with high school students, undergraduates, pre-med students preparing for the MCAT, and adults who have gone back to school. I love science and I enjoy sharing that love of science with students. It really makes me happy watching students get excited about doing well in these subjects and helping them succeed towards their future goals.
I grew up tutoring three of my siblings and their friends in Math throughout Middle and High School. During that time, I also coached swimming and soccer. Over the years, I've learned to show same concepts in multiple ways depending on the person I'm tutoring. And I've built up a considerable tolerance and patience through years of tutoring people with different personalities.
I love education and especially teaching. I have been tutoring since my undergrad where I taught conversational English to foreign students. I decided to pursue this further by obtaining a TEFL certification and going to teach English in Istanbul, Turkey. I also have a bachelor's degree in science and a master's degree in a social science from an Ivy League University My educational background has provided me with a great background to teach a variety of subjects.
I am currently an undergraduate student at Cornell University. I intend to major in physics and either minor or double major in computer science. In the past, I have tutored middle school and high school students, mostly in mathematics, but I also helped with middle school science and English as well as ACT preparation. I look forward to tutoring students in computer science, especially object-oriented programming; mathematics, from middle school mathematics to multivariable calculus and differential equations; preparation for the ACT, SAT, and AP tests; and topics in literature and history. My favorite subject to tutor is probably calculus because calculus really opens students' options for further exploration in math, science, economics, and pretty much every other STEM field. When it comes to tutoring, I believe that in order to give useful feedback to a student I need to observe and listen to them just as much they need to listen to me. Only then can I see what they need help understanding and how best to approach explaining it to them by building on their strengths. I think it's important to allow students time to think about problems and try to approach them on their own before giving them guidance so that they can develop confidence in their own ability to approach similar challenges independently.I have many hobbies outside of my academic pursuits. I enjoy reading a variety of genres especially science fiction, fantasy, weird fiction, and all sorts of non-fiction. I sometimes try my hand at writing short stories or poetry. I also frequently play musical instruments and listen to music. I play the guitar, mandolin, and trumpet and sometimes the keyboards or bass guitar. My favorite genres to listen to are jazz, progressive rock, folk, classic rock, and classical music. Some of my favorite bands and composers are King Crimson, Pink Floyd, Yes, Sun Ra, Miles Davis, Paul Simon, Led Zeppelin, and many others.
Hi, I'm Anna! Previously, I attended Brooklyn Technical High School in NYC, and now I'm a sophomore at Cornell University, majoring in biology and society on a pre-med track. I would love to apply the knowledge I learn at both Brooklyn Tech and Cornell in the subjects of Chemistry, Chinese, Biology, and math (Algebra, Geometry, and Calculus) to my tutoring role. When introducing a new topic to a student, I usually utilize powerpoints to first summarize the important points of the topic. Then, I will go further into detail to explain the concepts that'll be most likely test on to the students. After ensuring the student understands the topic and essential concepts, I would first work on sample problems with the student together and then let the student work on sample problems themself to ensure that they understand the topic. As an enthusiastic tutor, I am dedicated to help my students to excel in their academics and solve their problems.I consider myself an expert in tutoring Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and Calculus as I have tutor underclassmen from my high school one on one in these subjects, and they all received an A in their Algebra class and a 4 or 5 on the AP calculus exam.I belief I qualify to tutor in the subject of chemistry with levels ranging from high school chemistry to AP chemistry, and finally to college level chemistry. This is because I have taken all these chemistry courses, receiving an average of 100 in my high school level chemistry class, a 5 on the AP chemistry exam, and an A in both General Chemistry 1 and 2 at Cornell University in my freshman year. Previously, I tutor high school chemistry, AP chemistry, and SAT subject chemistry to my underclassmen in high school through the National Honor Society, and currently, I'm a TA for General Chemistry this summer for my professor at Cornell, prepping incoming freshman of Cornell and getting them ready for the General Chemistry course.I have also tutored students Chinese at the Woodside public library, ranging from conversational Chinese to reading
Hi! I'm Emily, a bioengineering graduate and former engineering teaching assistant. I specialize in ACT/PSAT prep and enjoy helping students improve both their scores and confidence. One of my favorite parts of tutoring is seeing the "aha" moment when a concept finally clicks. I focus on creating a supportive environment, breaking challenging concepts into manageable steps, and helping students become more independent learners.
By helping adolescents to define themselves based on their own talents and a valuable self-worth instead of trying to meet someone else's expectations, we can build students' confidence and academic success. We all have the right and responsibility to accept ourselves by defining who we are on our own terms and knowing what we stand for. This intricate balance can be achieved through increasing the availability and visibility of positive role models, advocating for participation in extracurricular activities, and educating students about goal setting and having high expectations for themselves.
As a self learner, I understand different struggles that students like myself might come across. I have a great passion for math and would love to share the tips and tricks that I have discovered that are application to not only the liberal arts but also in non academic activities as well.
I am a recent graduate of Cornell University, where I acquired a B.S. and M.Eng in Electrical and Computer Engineering and a minor in Computer Science. I've enjoyed assisting in education for as long as I can remember (cheesy, I know); I loved being a little "teacher's assistant" at my grandmother's preschool in Guatemala as a child. I tutored my peers a little bit in high school. While at university, I was a teaching assistant for Intro Digital Logic for 6 semesters, where I was energized by guiding students to the a-ha moments that led me to pursue a career in computer architecture.I am happy to tutor Computer Engineering and Programming principles in Python, C, and Verilog. I can also teach conversational Spanish or ESL, for I am fluent in Spanish and English.Outside of my current professional work at AMD, I like to stay active by lifting and swimming, try different foods, and go to coffee shops to read or work on side programming projects.
I am a current medical student in NYC.I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Biological Sciences from Cornell University. After tutoring at the college level for over four years, I have truly come to appreciate seeing my students excel in math and biology courses that they once thought were challenging and insurmountable. I believe that performing well in math and science is about learning how to study the right way for the specific subjects. I understand that each individual should use tools specific to their learning style. I am passionate about making my students see that they are capable of doing well in their classes. I look forward to instilling self-confidence in their coursework. In my free time, I enjoy exploring my local city, traveling and practicing yoga.
I graduated with a B.A from Cornell University and majored in biology (premed) with a concentration in genetics. I am currently 2nd year medical student at DUCOM and am passionate about biology, biochemistry and English. I understand the struggle of memorising small details and struggling to understand the big picture conceptually. I look forward to working with students struggling with stem courses
After graduating from Cornell University with a BA in Economics, I pursued post graduate studies in the FALCON (Full-Year Asian Language Concentration) program, which consisted of a full year of intensive Mandarin studies, partly at the Cornell University campus and partly at the highly ranked Peking University, in Beijing China. After completing my Mandarin studies in May 2013 with a GPA of 3.6, I remained in China for a year, and began a career with Pattison Education, as a tutor in Shenzhen China, where I taught English, Economics, and History to Chinese students at all levels, in a 1-to-1 setting. I also continued my Mandarin studies independently and achieved HSK level 5 Certification (July 2014). I enjoyed tutoring students so much, that after I moved back to the US, I continued both online and in person teaching of various subjects including Economics, Chinese, and TOEFL. I keep my tutoring schedule fairly flexible and I am just as comfortable teaching in-person as I am teaching in an online classroom.
I am a graduate of Cornell University's College of Arts and Sciences. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry with Distinction in 2015. Since graduation, I was a physics/chemistry teacher and soccer coach at a private school in Virginia for a year, where I led the soccer team to an undefeated season. Before teaching and coaching professionally, I was a Teaching Assistant for the Cornell Math and Physics Departments, where I taught many subjects including calculus, mechanics, electromagnetism. Throughout my time at Cornell and as a teacher, I tutored subjects ranging from the SAT to AP Physics and Algebra II, which is where my true talents lie: in small group or one-on-one settings where I can give students the full attention they deserve and tailor my approach specifically to their learning styles. This is why I am now pursuing tutoring as a part-time occupation at Varsity Tutors. I embrace teaching all math and science subjects, especially physics and calculus, at both the college and high school level and will go above and beyond to make sure all of my students succeed, according to their definition of success. In my spare time, I enjoy playing league soccer, basketball, tennis and guitar, and also like to travel and see as much of the world as I can.
I am a junior at Cornell University where I am working toward a Bachelor of Arts in Physics. In the past, I have worked at Kumon as a math and reading tutor. I am most passionate about teaching Math, Physics, and Spanish. I try to bring that passion to each tutoring session so that the lessons are both interesting and enriching. My ultimate goal is simple: when a student is able to explain a topic or even teach it back to me, I am confident that they have truly mastered the material.
I have just graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and am very excited to begin my career as a professional. Explaining complex concepts and methods in mathematics and physics has always come naturally to me, and I've made great use of this skill as a tutor. While math and physics are my forte, I am also adept in tutoring english grammar, language, and literature. There are few things I enjoy more than a true challenge, whether it be physical or mental. I aspire to be a great inventor and hope that my ideas and creations may simplify life as we know it and bring health, comfort, and joy to the masses. My favorite book is "Good Omens" by Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett and I recommend that everyone read promptly.
I have an intimate relationship with tutoring, in part because it's sort of the only way I really learn: I don't really understand a topic until I can teach it to someone else. Because of that, when I was in school I would regularly be tutoring other students. I also spent hours and hours tutoring others over the Internet. For me teaching is an adventure. Everyone has different perspectives, and when you are teaching you have to be able to both provide a new perspective and to understand (so as to enlarge) someone else's perspective. In my non-teaching time, I am interested in Physics and Mathematics and working out practical problems from plumbing to electronics. I will someday go back for my Ph.D. in Physics but until then I am looking to grow as an engineer or computer programmer.
I am a Cornell University graduate, I majored in Biometry and Statistics. I am interested in helping students to succeed in their course work by sharing my passion for learning, and by helping students develop their critical thinking skills. I am particularly well suited to assist students with math and physics, subjects which I believe are fundamental in the process of "learning how to learn".My personal values are as follows;- Hard Work- Caring- Integrity- Do the Right Thing- Do Things Right- Teamwork- GratitudeMy goal is to nurture a partnership with students. Learning is a collaborative effort. Students need someone to work with as opposed to someone to work for, and I strive to provide that service to them.
I'm passionate about helping students build confidence in mathematics and to help students see math as something fun, cool, exciting (not anxiety-inducing or fearful). Math is beautiful and elegant, and I hope to help students take that away from my tutoring sessions, little by little. I have helped communicate this message through my diverse teaching and tutoring experiences working with students from Title 1 High Schools and underrepresented backgrounds.
Having worked on the Shrek, Madagascar, and Ice Age franchises, I have thirty years of animation experience as an Animation Director, and I can teach animation to all age groups, having had extensive teaching experience before. My forte is guiding students on how to break into the visual arts and animation industry. Throughout my career, I have been an advisor and mentor to young artists whose top goal was to either get into a top art college or get a job at a studio. By looking at a student's portfolio and/or demo reel, I can pinpoint exactly what their strengths are and recommend any additional skills they may need to acquire. I have been successful in helping some hard-working students acquire internships and full-time positions at well-known companies. My proudest achievement is helping my own daughter apply to art colleges and get in with generous scholarship offers. In addition, I have critiqued students' artwork and animation in helping them refine them for their portfolios. Having an enthusiastic, positive attitude, I am excited to guide the next generation into this most rewarding field.
From the track to the classroom, the boardroom to the community, I have always been driven by one thing: the pursuit of potential. As an athlete, I know the power of discipline, resilience, and pushing past limits. As an entrepreneur, I embrace creativity, calculated risks, and the thrill of turning ideas into impact. As a teacher and mentor, I find purpose in guiding others to discover their strengths and chart their own paths to success. And as a lifelong learner, I never stop asking questions, seeking growth, and challenging myself to be better than I was yesterday. I believe that true success isn't measured just by personal achievements but by the lives we touch along the way. Whether I'm coaching an athlete, inspiring a student, advising a startup, or simply offering a word of encouragement, my mission is to help others unlock their potential and create meaningful change. In everything I do, I bring energy, passion, and an unshakable belief that everyone has the ability to achieve greatness. The challenge? Helping them see it for themselves. That's where I come in.

My teaching experience began in high school, when my dad was a teacher at a weekend Chinese school in Westchester County, New York. I substituted for him while he went to China for a few weeks. The students loved me even though I wasn't that much older than them (they were middle school students). After college I spent a year in Beijing and tutored adults in English and Chinese. In 2007 I taught a GRE class at Baruch College in Manhattan. In 2007 I began working on Wall Street while volunteering after work. Most recently from 2012-2014 I was a volunteer tutor at the Fresh Air Fund in midtown Manhattan, where I worked with inner city middle school students after school on a one-on-one basis (two hour sessions once to twice a week).I love tutoring and I am comfortable tutoring all subjects ranging from Math, English, Foreign Languages (beginner to advanced Mandarin or French, beginner Spanish), Social Studies, History, Science and test-preparation.
I have spent my life teaching math, both as a classroom teacher and as a tutor, and I love it! My goal is always to make mathematics simple and understandable. I teach by asking questions, both to check for understanding and to allow the student to figure out the concept on his/her own. While my favorite topics are Statistics and Trigonometry, I love teaching all of Algebra too. I have taught both AP Statistics as well as IB SL. Nothing compares to seeing the look of understanding a math concept on a student's face! In addition, I have taught courses in, and tutored, SAT Prep for 35 years. While I do tutor both the math and Reading & Writing sections, I do believe that students can be helped more in the math section. Therefore, I choose to work with students who want to improve their math score more, but may still want some help with the Reading and Writing. Yes, the SAT has changed throughout the years but I have kept up with it and have seen more than 100 SAT tests. I am an expert in SAT test construction and offer many problem-solving strategies for success on the SAT test.
I am a great teacher with over 8 years teaching experience teaching children from Grades K through 12. I absolutely love working with students of all ages. I have the most experience working with preschoolers with autism, but have also worked with adolescents with various behavioral difficulties. For the last few years, I have tutored college-age students in several subjects including Psychology, English and Statistics. I took the GRE fairly recently so I feel very comfortable tutoring students to prepare for that exam, as well as the ACT. My graduate program is designed to prepare me to work with students of all ages and all ability levels, so I feel confident that I can help a variety of clients. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, dancing, playing tennis, and doing crossword puzzles.
