I am a Senior at UC Berkeley, expecting to graduate next spring with a degree in Engineering Physics. Since I began tutoring, it has always been my philosophy to make sure the student understands a subject by breaking down concepts in the easiest way. My passion for the sciences drives me to not only teach what is on paper, but offer deeper insights to the material. For almost ten years now I've been teaching students of all ages, from across the globe, about everything from Ancient Rome to particle physics. Driven by a passion for discovery, and a desire to pass that love of learning on to others, I first began working with students as a Museum Educator at a local history museum, making the world of nineteenth century America come alive for visitors. In high school, I worked as a teaching assistant in a number of science and world history courses, providing support for both honors and remedial students to give them the tools they needed to succeed. Since late high school I have had a regular teaching commitment, whether it was helping younger students prepare for standardized tests or TA'ing for college courses. I'm a veteran of the AP system and of the SAT, and a more recent veteran of the GRE, so I know what's tough about these tests and how to conquer them. My tutoring philosophy is centered around teaching the core concepts of a subject, so students have a good sense of where strategies come from and how to apply them. Ultimately I think most math, science and humanities is extremely interesting if you can build confidence and fundamental understanding, and I hope to share my enthusiasm with my students!

I have 12 years experience tutoring students for test prep and academic subjects. My number one goal in tutoring is understanding and not correct answers. When students miss questions, I explain step-by-step the concept(s) behind the question before explaining the steps to answering the question itself. Even for questions that my students answered correctly, I ask students to explain to me why their chosen answer choices are correct - and often they are unable to do so, which provides the opportunity to expand understanding. At the end of every tutoring session, I do a recap - categorizing the types of mistakes they made and giving suggestions for strengthening those areas of weakness.

As a systems engineer and data scientist, I mentor and collaborate with other professionals to solve hard problems. In learning, there is no problem that we cannot master with patience and persistence.
