Recent Chester Tutoring Session Notes

Tutoring review by Brian in Chester, NJ
We spent most of the session working on physical science, specifically chemistry and types of bonding and valence electrons. We ended with a brief discussion of bond polarity and bond strength. Then we worked on algebra for the remainder of the session, studying quadratic equations, their lines of symmetry, vertices, and minimums or maximums. We ended with solving equations with the quadratic formula. I gave the student some problems to work on with algebra, and he will continue to work on his physical science homework. He was a great student to work with and I look forward to working with him again.

Tutoring review by Hsiao-harng in Chester, NJ
This session focused on hyperbolas. We did practice problems from the student's textbook where the equation of a hyperbola is given. Using the given hyperbola equation, I taught him how to find the center, vertices, foci, and asymptotes of a hyperbola. Then I had him do a few hyperbola problems himself to test his understanding. It seems that he's able to pick up the concepts well.

Tutoring review by Ted in Chester, NJ
We took today's session to continue practicing the math portion of the assessment exam. The student still had a few concerns regarding this part of the exam and therefore we took the necessary time to address those issues. We did not have any specific concepts or lesson to go over. Instead, we reviewed a number of strategies that were key to this exam. For instance, we reviewed the importance of the answer choices. This is an essential part of the exam that should never be neglected. Aside from this, we took the rest of the time to review any last minute math concepts that were still confusing for him. Our next and final class will focus on the reading and logic section. Although he has a good handle on these parts, it is important for us to review them before his upcoming exam.

Tutoring review by Reyanna in Chester, NJ
Yesterday the student and I reviewed her homework assignments. She knew how to do most of the problems, and we continued to have her check her own work so she could recognize anything she did wrong on her own. In terms of material, we worked on distribution as well as squares and square roots while solving for x. The material is not the problem so much as her making sure she takes every step necessary to get the right answer. I will work more with her on checking her answer completely before going on to the next problem.
