The student and I continued to go through previous assignments. We worked on various transformations of points and figures, including reflecting over axes, rotating about the origin, and translations. She had difficulty visualizing movements about the coordinate plane and spatially reasoning through some of the transformations, so we tried other methods for completing the problems. We determined that she is best able to complete these types of problems by listing the coordinates involved and performing computations on them based on heuristic rules for the various transformations - she was much more comfortable with this method than a more traditional, spatial approach. After making that adjustment, she had a much easier time getting through the assignments we worked on. There are certain problem types that require more spatial reasoning, but if she can ground the problem in pieces that she knows how to do, she is more likely to be able to work through them.

The student and I spent the majority of the session working through her science exam review. Overall, she did very well - she needed only a little help addressing some of the equation questions. Currently, she is passing all of her classes with mid to high Cs, and I told her that I'd like to see her two high C classes turn into low B classes with her exam grades (mathematics and social studies).

First, we reviewed the student's homework. The homework dealt with finding a slope from two points. He had a few mistakes with adding and subtracting integers, but with reminders of the rules, he quickly corrected them. The student asked for assistance with a few grammar quizzes he had to complete. The quizzes covered semicolon, colon, apostrophe, comma, hyphen, dash, and parentheses. We completed the quizzes and returned to the topic of math. We discussed the distributive property when solving order of operation problems. I left him integer and slope homework.
