Today the student had his homework finished before our session. He completed the assignment which was graphing numerical relations on a number line. I took the opportunity to teach more in depth on volume. His math class stopped at area, so I took his learning one step further and covered the concept in three detentions. He took to the concept very well. In our next session I will give him a few questions to solve involving volume.

We have covered the chain rule and practiced working equations that requires double chain to solve. The student struggles in solving double chain rule problems because he tries to jump to the answer without organization of the problem. He needs to learn how to organize and simplify a complex problems to be able to get the correct solution. I have shown him how to break down an equation but I believe he needs more work on understanding the concept.

Tutoring review by Kriya in Wanaque, NJ
The student does great when the problems are straightforward operations. He tends to underestimate his math skills, however, whenever long word problems are present or when "complicated" topics like matrices are introduced. I showed him how these are all simple problems that he is more than capable of doing. For the ones that he missed, they were all from not paying attention to the specifics of the question. I'm giving him encouragement to not be intimidated by any of the "complex" looking problems. His homework will be the rest of the math section.

Tutoring review by Christine in Wanaque, NJ
During this session, I helped the student with some assignments over classifying angles and supplementary/ complementary angles. We went over some worksheets together and whenever she got something wrong or did not know what to do, I explained the procedure step by step. She especially had some difficulty wrapping her head around vertical and adjacent angles, so I had her take notes on them on a sheet of paper and do some practice problems. She seemed to understand after this.
