I am a graduate of Hunter College with a Masters of Science in Education, with a focus on Deaf and Hard of Hearing and Students with Disabilities. I am certified as a New York State teacher, working with the New York City Department of Education. My philosophy on teaching is quite simple: each student learns in their own way and it is the responsibility of a teacher/tutor to determine how a student learns, determine their needs and create lessons that the student will feel successful in completing while fostering their unique learning styles. When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family, learning new things, taking my dog for long walks and curling up on the porch with a good book or the latest "it" book.

I have a long history with my own education that started at a boarding school in the Northeast and continued through college programs at the University of Chicago, San Francisco Art Institute, and Hunter College and Baruch College in New York City. I currently hold two masters degrees, one in Fine Art and one in Education.I have worked with younger people since my first volunteer work at a public school on the south side of the Chicago in the early 90s. I have been a teacher in public schools for the last 10 years, but was a teacher both in Japan and in New York City before I began my current position.Generally my expertise lies in mathematics but I am confident in my abilities in helping students complete homework in all academic areas. I like teaching math because over the years I have built up a great deal of insight into different ways to explain core mathematical concepts and relationships. As a tutor I like to find a baseline where my student feels confident and build on that confidence. I am a recent Hunter College undergrad (majored in Neuroscience) working as a Biology and Chemistry teacher at Lower Manhattan Art Academy (a Title 1 school) during the day and tutoring in the evening. I have been tutoring since high school in all subjects, and more recently, college students in Statistics and high school juniors in SAT prep. I also spent this last winter abroad in Ecuador teaching high school students the English language. Program in New Rochelle as a volunteer in 2000 and have been passionate about it ever since, ultimately turning it into my career when I finished Undergrad at Eastman/ U of R in 2008. During my last semester there, as well as any break that saw me returning home to New Rochelle, NY, I continued to teach music in any capacity that I could - private lessons and schools, charter schools, teaching agencies, camps, etc. Since 2008, I have hosted more than 8 studio recitals for my students and run myself as a business, seeking to musically educate as many people as I can.I strongly believe music and frankly all mediums of art are woven into the fabric of who we are as human beings, and a valuable resource for us in achieving a truly enlightened society. Despite this, music and art are all too frequently the first curricula cast aside by public schools and even in general. This has always struck me as incredibly short sighted given that music especially, gives students of all ages a chance to hone multiple intelligences/skills at once (motor coordination, language, visual perception, auditory perception, etc.). So I guess in a sense I am trying to balance the scales with my chosen career. I am a Colorado native, and have been living in New York City for almost four years. I completed the Teach for America program, and then taught at a charter school in Harlem for three years while also earning my Masters in Science from CUNY- Hunter College. I've recently completed my Bachelor's degree in English literature at Hunter College. Biology been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. As soon as possible, I set myself on a track to have as much biology in my life as possible. In middle school I entered as many science fairs as I could. In high school I elected to enter into the IB program in order to take both IB Biology SL and IB biology HL (in addition to the standard high school biology class). While enrolled in IB Biology, I often formed study groups and peer tutored fellow classmates on a variety of concepts. After finishing up high school I entered into the B.S program for Biology at SUNY New Paltz. Here my studies focused on the cell/molecular side of cell biology (although I did take many electives in ecology and plant biology). During my undergraduate career I worked both as a tutor for general biology and genetics, and as a professional note taker. Both of these positions helped me hone my skills as a tutor, and realize the importance of having a solid foundation of organized note taking and study skills.Upon completion of my bachelors degree, I choose to enter into a biology masters program at Hunter College that concentrated on biotechnology. I loved seeing my students' progress and enthusiasm about reading. My love of language also extends to foreign language. I studied Spanish for four years and have a future goal of learning sign language too!

I am an elementary school teacher during the day and a student too- learning really is life long. My favorite hobbies are mostly outdoor activities like hiking and climbing. I love traveling in the USA and to Europe, which is where I'm from. I love art in all its form, visual and performing arts. My favorite subjects are Math and Science. Reading always calms and there's nothing I love more than a good book.

I tutor a wide range of subjects, with a background in humanities, arts and math. I've been a language teacher for the past seven years, focusing on "twice exceptional" students, those who are highly gifted and have challenges like autism, executive functioning, and learning disabilities. With master's degrees in both Mathematical Physics and Special Education, I love teaching both advanced subject material and the fundamentals of literacy, organizing, and the whole human that go along with all learning. I often say I work best with folks who "love learning but hate school."I am very flexible with teaching, ethics and focus on student needs, styles and interests. In languages especially, I can bring students to great leaps in proficiency through low-stress, research-backed methods like immersion in "comprehensible input" and learning through stories and cultural material with lots of context.
