I earned my BS in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing from Towson University and both my MA in TESOL and my Advanced Certificate in Administration and Supervision from Hunter College. After graduating Towson, I wanted to find a job in business, but after living in Rome, Italy, and tutoring English I felt the call to become a teacher. Even now, I hold a NYS School Building Leader license but choose not to pursue a job as principal because I love teaching too much! The relationships I build with my students while I help them achieve their success are why I love going to work every day.My experience consists of teaching and tutoring for 9 years in two NYC high schools - one very competitive, and the other with a poor inner-city population. As a result, I'm very aware of how to vary instruction based on a student's needs, skill level, background knowledge, and individual goals. In addition, I have taught and tutored a variety of courses such as ESL (beginner, intermediate, advanced), ELA, Global Studies 9 and 10, U.S. History, U.S. History Regents Prep, and SAT Critical Reading Prep.I enjoy tutoring the content of U.S. History and Global Studies because as a former high school AP student the subjects always fascinated me, and I take pleasure in fostering my students' interest in the subject as well. However, I also enjoy teaching reading comprehension and writing skills because they are applicable to not only history and English, but other subjects, too.My philosophy on tutoring is that it is a partnership; I provide the content knowledge and strategies for delivering the content in comprehensible and fun manner while the student dedicates his/her time and effort. Finally, I take great pride in my students' success, and I am their cheerleader and tireless advocate! When I'm not teaching or tutoring, I enjoy going to the gym, studying Italian and Spanish, traveling, taking salsa and bachata classes, being outdoors, meeting new people, and using Groupon to try new things - including those out of my comfort zone.I look forward to working with you!

My goal as a tutor is to ensure that every one of my students learns the proper methods and gains the understanding to tackle their academic problems. I will work with an individual for however long it takes them to master a subject. I value the importance of practice when it comes to academics. The grades students receive are based on the practice time put in by the student, so it is necessary to put in the practice time until a concept is mastered. No question in any subject should be seen as impossible to tackle - with the proper learning tools and tips/tricks that I provide to my students, I'm confident they can take on a problem of any difficulty level.

I am a fluent Japanese native, born in Japan, but raised mostly in the United States. I return multiple times a year to keep in touch with my Japanese family, as well as the culture and language. While I enjoy academics as a whole, my passion has been in the Japanese language and Psychology, both of which I have an extensive college education in. I am currently pursuing my Master's degree in Psychology. I believe learning another language is difficult enough on its own, so I aim to bridge the gaps in culture, native pronunciation, and enjoyment, through a relaxed, organized, patient, and encouraging approach. Consistency is key when it comes to any type of learning, therefore I aim to ensure that all students receive a punctual and dependable tutor in me. Learning the English language allowed me to see the world through a different lens, exposing me to new and exciting customs and ideas. Because I am a witness of what learning a new language can do for a person, I decided that if I wanted to teach to change someone's life, the best choice was to teach Spanish. Attempting to use the language as a conveyance method to become citizens of the world, and why not, as a tool to change their lives, as the English language did for me.

I have a long history with my own education that started at a boarding school in the Northeast and continued through college programs at the University of Chicago, San Francisco Art Institute, and Hunter College and Baruch College in New York City. I currently hold two masters degrees, one in Fine Art and one in Education.I have worked with younger people since my first volunteer work at a public school on the south side of the Chicago in the early 90s. I have been a teacher in public schools for the last 10 years, but was a teacher both in Japan and in New York City before I began my current position.Generally my expertise lies in mathematics but I am confident in my abilities in helping students complete homework in all academic areas. I like teaching math because over the years I have built up a great deal of insight into different ways to explain core mathematical concepts and relationships. As a tutor I like to find a baseline where my student feels confident and build on that confidence. I believe in practicing success but learning from failure.Outside of academia I play ultimate frisbee, electric guitar and have started fooling around on the piano in recent years.

A learning environment featuring engagement, organization, flexibility, and understanding is one of most optimal to empower students to realize their academic and personal goals, as well as to become whole citizens of the world. My passion for learning and working towards social progress pushes me to create this type of environment while teaching. In this manner, I remind myself that students are the paramount focus of my teaching. I welcome them to feel comfortable and honest in my classroom and to emerge as active members of the teaching and learning process. I want to highlight to students that everyone has the potential to learn math. Whether the student loves the subject or perhaps it is not their strongest suit, my role as a teacher is to take up the challenge of providing a path for students in which they can fully realize their potential. It is my responsibility as an educator to maintain current knowledge of the pedagogical literature and communicate with colleagues for best practices. It is important to exercise collaborative learning, projects, and multimodal work as additional teaching methods to incorporate the broad spectrum of students' linguistic and cultural repertoire. Furthermore, practicing formative assessments such as oral presentations will serve to promote individual student's confidence and personality growth, as well as minimize biases. I believe we need to constantly evaluate our teaching forms and be simultaneously critical and flexible to executing new ideas on classroom instruction. Above all, a love for teaching and advocacy of agency growth are two of the key elements for motivating students to learn. Through my experience as a Teaching Assistant for Calculus courses, I strive to practice student-centered approaches to create a desire for learning. I develop open-ended learning tasks for students to think critically about the main ideas of the textbook. By establishing an interactive dialogue, the students and I derive examples and approaches that best fit with their learning style. I appreciate the honesty that students display when giving mathematical answers that need improvement; embracing struggles and mistakes presents another opportunity toward success. Lastly, during office hours I adapt my teaching style to provide individual help that fits the needs of the scholar. These strategies foster a setting filled of inquiry, engagement, and problem-solving that students can carry to other courses and beyond. The production of an atmosphere that is conducive to critical thinking and advancement starts by cultivating a good rapport with students. Often, I relate with students because I continue to be a student myself. I recognize the variation of socioeconomic challenges students face, and I know that sometimes I have minute direct influence over certain challenges. However, teachers are uniquely positioned to initiate and contribute to conversations that are inclusive of multiple perspectives and lived experiences. Through this viewpoint, I work towards becoming supportive, culturally aware, and a better communicator with every teaching interaction. This might resemble hosting one-on-one appointments for students who have conflicting schedules or affording assignment extensions for students with extenuating circumstances. Additionally, building connections with students' families requires a conscious effort and is well worthwhile when necessary, given that parental support plays a crucial role in learners' attitude both in and out of the classroom. Without question, my passion for teaching drives me to seek opportunities to educate and mentor students from all backgrounds. Via student feedback and evaluations, I look forward to continuously improving my teaching for the effort of assisting young minds to blossom into their authentic self and future leaders of the world.

I am from Princeton, New Jersey, but have lived all over the country. I currently attend Hunter College and am pursuing a degree in Biology, and have a strong interest in medicine, mathematics, and physics.I tutor frequently in private sessions across the greater West Windsor/Princeton area, and was a avid tutor in high school helping high school and middle school students in SAT prep, math, physics, and various STEM classes.I have a plethora of AP and standardized testing experience from high school so I can ensure that my students receive the relevant knowledge they require. My teaching philosophy revolves around the age old method of socratic teaching: AKA I am not here to give you the answers, but rather here to guide you through the processes of taking in information effectively, so that you yourself can become an effective learner for the future beyond. A typical first time tutoring session would begin with me assessing where you are as a student in the topic at hand, asking you what you want out of our sessions (and me suiting your need to that desire as much as possible), and beginning a lesson plan.My SAT tutoring is split into 3 sections; the student takes home each part of a practice test and completes it, and once our session begins we review your answers and try to pinpoint where your weaknesses are, simultaneously developing strategies that you could employ in a real test taking environment. Math and physics tutoring revolves around the exact same principles, and depending on the where the student is in their learning I often speak to the student's guardian to personalize a learning plan that can best supplement their in school learning. I am happy to help in any situation, whether that be homework, schoolwork, or just self-enrichment. It does not matter your background, but the attitude you carry to our sessions.I strive to maintain positivity in my tutoring, and if the end goal of tutoring is to help the student it is necessary to not only invoke extrinsic motivation but also intrinsic.

I believe that children should be taught how to think clearly, logically, independently, and critically. This can be accomplished quite effectively through a unique approach to the traditional curriculum. Reading comprehension skills, science, even the correct application of spelling rules and generalizations can be excellent ways of developing inductive logical thinking skills. And math, if taught properly, is great for developing deductive logical thinking skills. In fact, I have developed my own method for teaching elementary math which accomplishes precisely this objective, and I would relish the opportunity to teach the full program to serious, motivated students. Writing also has tremendous benefits. When one clarifies and adds precision to a particular thought one is trying to communicate, critical thinking skills are being developed. And all can be very effective ways of developing problem-solving skills.I believe that reading and spelling instruction are most effective when built upon a solid foundation of phonics. Once these phonetic skills are in place, reading ability is best developed through instruction in reading comprehension skills and through a program of extensive individualized reading. Toward that end, I sought to provide children in my classes with good literature and ample opportunity to read both fiction and nonfiction books of their choice. Indeed, as a former first grade teacher, I am familiar with many of the most fun and engaging books for beginning readers. I believe that a solid command of English grammar is vital to effective, intelligent, and coherent speaking and writing, and as a result, I gave it a great deal of attention in my classroom. I believe that the traditional but typically neglected subjects of history and geography are essential to fully understanding ourselves and our world, and I taught both in considerable depth and detail. Indeed, I believe that there is something almost sacred about history.I am dedicated and hardworking as evidenced by the fact that I was almost never absent. I prefer to interact with my students rather than simply giving uninspired assignments or mindless "busy work," because I feel that the former is more effective. I believe that a good teacher should ask questions which require thoughtful responses from minds which are actively engaged in the learning process. I set high standards for my students, and create many of my own materials including rather rigorous teacher made tests. Though I am firm and focused and require a high level of responsibility and accountability from my students, I liked to conduct my classes, when possible, with a sense of humor.I taught in the public schools for thirty-three years. Though I taught fourth grade for many years, I have also taught first grade, second grade, fifth grade, Title I Remedial Reading and Math (K-2), Title I Remedial Kindergarten, seventh grade Reading, and even served as a K-2 Mentor/Reading Specialist. I am Elementary (K-8) licensed and hold a Reading Teacher endorsement and an endorsement in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). Though I am retired, my passion for teaching remains. It is my hope that individual and small-group tutoring will allow me to experience all the joy and fulfillment that the profession of teaching was always meant to have. I look forward to using all my skills and experience to help your child to learn.

I graduated in May of 2023 from Hunter College with a BA in Mathematics. I previously worked in the Dolciani Math Center at Hunter College as a tutor, working one on one or in groups with students. There I tutored College Algebra, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus and more. As a private tutor, I worked with students ranging from the 1st grade to high school, tutoring basic mathematics, SAT Math, Algebra, Geometry, AP Calc AB as well as other similar subjects. I've always enjoyed tutoring others as a way to give back to the community that has helped me throughout my own educational career, hoping it will encourage others to do the same. Lastly, in my free time I enjoy reading, playing on my Nintendo Switch, doing puzzles, and practicing yoga.

With nearly two decades of experience in education, I've taught in bilingual Spanish elementaryclassrooms, ESL programs for children and adults in Ecuador, after school Spanish language programs, and piano and general music instruction to all ages in group and individual classes. My student-centric teaching philosophy is rooted in building confidence, comfortable self-expression, good social skills and having fun! The students I work with achieve exceptional results by learning how to set high standards for themselves, recognize each victory as they go, and become their own advocates for success. The joy of seeing that light bulb go off during moments that seem so brief but are really important milestones in a child's learning journey and their gleaming smile when they can FEEL the progress they are making these are the things I have enjoyed most about working with children.

I am an expert in Mathematics. I am happy to offer tutoring services for anyone who wants help learning Mathematics. Helping others has always been a major passion of mine, and I am thrilled that I have the opportunity to pass my knowledge and skills on to others.I earned my Masters degree in Statistics and Applied Mathematics, and my Bachelors degree was in Mathematics and Economics. I first started working as a Math tutor during my undergrad years, and I continue to help students to this day. Through the years, I have worked as both a classroom teacher, as well as a private tutor. As a tutor, I have taught at several colleges, learning centers and even private homes. Most of my students are Middle School, High School, or College students who either need extra assistance in Math or are looking to get ahead and learn advanced material. With my help, students improve their grades and gain confidence in their Math skills. Additionally, I also regularly assist students in preparing for the Math sections on important Standardized Tests, such as the SAT and the ACT. Most of my students report that they achieve highly-desirable results on these tests thanks to my help.I teach my students how to recognize patterns and how to apply appropriate problem-solving techniques whenever they encounter a certain type of problem. Math is all about recognizing problems and applying the appropriate steps in order to reach a solution. Once a student knows how to recognize problems and use the correct techniques to reach a desired outcome, they can accomplish almost anything in Math.My favorite aspect of tutoring is having the ability to teach something I love, while also working to improve the lives of others. It gives me great joy whenever I am able to help a student overcome their obstacles and achieve success. I really enjoy Math, and I want to show my students that Math can be fun and exciting with a little bit of practice. I believe that anyone can learn Math if they put their mind to it.
