Hi! I'm Kishen Mitra, a recent Duke biomedical engineering graduate with a passion for making STEM education accessible and engaging for students at all levels. At Duke, I served as a Teaching Assistant for upper-level BME courses including Modeling Cellular and Molecular Systems and Modern Diagnostic Imaging Systems, where I guided 90+ students through complex technical material. I also tutored student-athletes in calculus, differential equations, and chemistry, helping them build both conceptual understanding and academic confidence. Beyond the classroom, I've been deeply committed to mentorship. As an E-Team Peer Advisor at Duke's Pratt School of Engineering, I mentored two cohorts of first-year students through their transition to college. Currently, I mentor high school students from underrepresented backgrounds in STEM through Project Exploration in Chicago, supporting them as they explore their academic and career aspirations. I'm also the Founder and Program Director of STEM 4 All Kids, a nonprofit that has brought hands-on STEM enrichment to 500+ students across 9 Title I schools in Florida and hosted free biannual camps for 75 underserved middle schoolers in Durham. I love breaking down complex concepts, adapting my teaching approach to each student's unique learning style, and celebrating progress together. Whether you need support with math, physics, chemistry, SAT/ACT prep, or college application materials, I'm here to help you succeed. Let's work together to reach your goals!

I am a sophomore studying economics at Duke University. I took AP Calculus AB and AP Statistics my junior and senior years of high school respectively, and got 5's on both tests. I've done well in math classes my whole life and that trend has continued into college. Throughout my math career, reaching out to people for help has been critical to my learning.I have tutored students since junior year of high school and have refined my teaching methods from all of my sessions. Furthermore, I think I'd be a great tutor in the foreseeable future as I will bring students to learn hard math concepts in a simpler way.Outside of the classroom, I enjoy swimming, working out, going on adventures, and hanging out with friends.
Hi! I'm a passionate and enthusiastic educator who loves helping students from elementary through college grow and succeed. I've taught all subjects as a substitute teacher at Durham Academy, but Spanish and French are my favorite! I also provided one-on-one tutoring with One Up Tutors, making learning languages and other subjects fun, engaging, and rewarding. Most recently, I worked as a teacher assistant at Duke University, helping students navigate ethics courses, organize their work, and understand complex ideas. I enjoy working with learners of all ages and abilities, and I'm all about creating highly effective lessons. Let's make learning exciting and help you reach your goals!
I recently graduated from Duke University with a degree in Biology and a Minor in Chemistry. I excelled in my program with a Biology GPA of 3.77. I am extremely passionate about the material, and enjoy tutoring as a way of keeping Biology in my life. While in school I tutored for a student-run nonprofit called Chance tutoring, In this role I tutored middle and High school students in subjects ranging from statistics to SAT prep. I also taught two Chemistry 101 lab sections. In addition to my teaching experience I scored a 41 on the MCAT as well as a 1440 on the SAT(don't remember my writing score). I tutor MCAT because I understand that studying for the test can often seem like a steep mountain to climb. I understand the importance placed on doing well and how stressful it can be for prospective physicians. I am eager to share my test taking strategies as well as help students to learn and understand the material itself. I'll also be applying for medical school in the near future and am happy to share my experiences with any of my students.
I graduated as valedictorian of my high school, then graduated from Duke University with a bachelor's in Neuroscience, and have just recently graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a master's in Biotechnology. I have worked as a research technologist at Johns Hopkins Medicine and I am now a medical student at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.I have thirteen years of tutoring experience, in subjects ranging from math, test prep, Spanish, and violin. I train in martial arts and I enjoy learning languages in my free time. I have volunteered as a Spanish medical interpreter at local clinics.Feel free to contact me at any time if you have questions. I look forward to working with you!
My aim is to provide students with the best help and support with exciting and thoughtful lessons.
I have dedicated a significant amount of time teaching all sorts of subjects ranging from tennis to ACT to dance to finance. I currently work for Kaplan teaching ACT, SAT, and MCAT. I have worked as a teaching assistant for computer science and even have taught finance to high school students. I love teaching because I believe I can connect well with the students. I am able to create short-cuts, tricks, and other useful methods that students love because I, myself, am a student. Therefore, I can relate well with all my students. Since my experiences range far and wide, I am confident that I can provide the best services as a tutor in my subject areas.Besides tutoring, I love to dance, play tennis, draw, and just have fun in general. I think of myself as the jokester of my friends group, so I'll always try to put a smile on your face!
Duke University graduate and experienced SAT tutor, including mentoring students at my high school to improve their scores and strengthen their confidence as learners. I focus on building strong foundations first, then developing speed, strategy, and test-taking endurance. My approach is supportive, patient, and goal-oriented, helping students grow their skills and believe in what they're capable of achieving.
I received my B.S. in Biology from Rhodes College, my M.S. in Biology from Alabama in Birmingham, and a PhD in Anatomy and Physiology from Duke University. My teaching over the last few years has focused on Histology (MicroAnatomy) and Physiology. Teaching modern histology and physiology requires a strong understanding of cell and molecular biology, and I incorporate these areas into my current teaching. I have also taught Genetics, Cell Biology, Developmental Biology, and Introductory Biology. During my 25 years at the University of Puget Sound, I continually served on our Health Professions Advising Committee, and was chair of this committee for three years. We advised students in all aspects of their applications for professional schools in diverse areas of health care professions, such as medical and dental school, among other professional health-related graduate programs. As chair of the committee I was solely responsible for writing committee letters for all of our students who applied through our committee. As a science educator, I serve my students, and do my utmost to provide them with a modern education in biology. I sincerely love teaching, which for me includes preparation through literature research, and organization and delivery of the best information. I enjoy all aspects of teaching, but most especially the reward of seeing my students learn, and secondarily, my learning of my field and pedagogy, through my efforts as a teacher.
An appreciation of education is a prerequisite for any great tutor, and I believe that I have this appreciation. As a student at Duke University, I recognize that it is my teachers and tutors who played vital roles in my academic achievement. I would love to have the opportunity to help other students the same way my teachers and tutors did for me.One of my strengths that contributes to my success as a tutor is my ability to work with all kinds of people. Growing up in Portland, Oregon and going to college in Durham, North Carolina, I have not only been exposed to a diversity of people, but I have also had the chance to work as part of a team in many different settings. From helping my peers with problem sets in my biochemistry class to conducting spelling and geography bees as a volunteer with the North South Foundation, I have had many opportunities to work with others in an academic setting.Perhaps it is these previous experiences that most significantly contribute to my ability to be an effective tutor. I currently volunteer as a tutor with America Reads & Counts in Durham (ARAC), and through this program, I work with students in the Durham community to help them get the most out of their education. I usually help my students with their homework, and my experience as a tutor with ARAC has taught me valuable lessons about communication and empathy that I believe have shaped my ability to be a successful tutor.
Besides my mother, my daughters and my late wife, I consider my best teachers (the greatest influences in my life) to have come from Bunny Land A-Cat-A-Me, Johnston Middle School, Bellaire High, Duke University, Stanford Law School and the Vancouver Film School. They pushed, inspired and taught me in richly different ways. They lead me to find joy in knowledge and fluency, in the process fanning a non-stop yearning to learn and to share.I have tutored Advanced Placement students, executives changing careers, and those who believe they can do better academically or on achievement tests. I have instructed lawyers on contemporary legal issues, taught middle and high school students how to craft screenplays, and coached law students in mock trial competitions and middle school basketball teams. I enjoy working with students on French, writing skills, essay editing, American History, LSAT prep, middle school math, geography, government and organizational skills.I treat each student individually, and tailor our sessions to his or her learning styles, and aspirations (and of course, those of their parents). If, as a team, we can achieve the goals we set, and enhance the student's enjoyment and mastery of their unique learning process, I will have done my job.
I recently graduated from Duke University with a BA in Public Policy. I am in New York City studying acting, and I want to bring the same energy, enthusiasm and compassion that is required on stage to my students. I have experience tutoring for the SATs, and I have had significant experience serving as a mentor to younger students, particularly in the university setting. I love coaching and helping students discover their intellectual passions. Most importantly, I am thrilled by the prospect of helping a student set concrete goals and progress towards actualizing them in an academic realm. But above all I want to work with students to help them develop strategies that are personally effective and furthermore that link their passions with their education.
