The student and I reviewed for his final using a packet given to him by his teacher. His logical reasoning, recall and timely use and recognition of appropriate situations in which to use formulas and theorems is very good. He's confident and going to score high.

Tutoring review by Asta in Lawrence, NY
We started with reviewing what she learned in math class, which was how to find the volume of pyramids and cones. Then, I helped the student work through her homework, though she didn't need much guidance on that because she understood the concepts. We spent most of our time together reviewing for her chemistry test tomorrow. She needed to understand how to find the limiting reactant, how to find percent yield, and how to find mole ratios. She understood the idea of mole ratios the most, but struggled with finding limiting reactants because of the number of steps involved.

Tutoring review by Samuel in Lawrence, NY
Today, the student and I reviewed for his upcoming test involving transformations. He had already learned the first three sections in his class which reviewed reflections, rotations, and translations, and how changes in x and y modify graphs. He felt mostly comfortable with this, so we reviewed a couple questions that he previously got wrong, and then moved onto the 4th section of the chapter, which dealt with tessellations and is also the final section in this very short chapter. We reviewed translation, rotation, and glide reflection tessellations, then proceeded to complete his homework. This new topic was very easy for him, so we finished this, and also completed the review assignment for the chapter. Going forward with this chapter, the student will have a couple days of review in class in which he will get extra practice. I believe he will be in great shape for his test.

We covered exponential functions and exponential decay to help the student prepare for a quiz tomorrow. As usual, she seemed to understand the material fairly well. We plan to have one or two more sessions this term before her final exam to help sweep up any topics she may still need help with.

Tutoring review by Matthew in Lawrence, NY
We covered the main concept of finding a slope, and solving equations for linear graphs. The student struggled most with being able to set up equations to answer a question; many of his attempts to answer questions were to plug in number in his head and try to imagine graphing it. His attitude was enthusiastic and open-minded. The main strategy I stressed was to write everything down: if there is a graph, draw the graph; if there is an algebraic expression, write out every single step; and if there are variables you know or don't know, write those out too. Oftentimes, once a student can see the information he has, he doesn't have to keep track of variables and distractions in his head and can focus on the steps needed to solve a problem. We specifically went over some corrections to a test he had just taken, so I did not leave him with more practice. His grade was approximately a 50% on his last tests, so hopefully I'll see an improvement with his grades for the next test.
