Recent Tutoring Session Reviews

Tutoring review by Bejoy in Great Neck Plaza, NY
Today the student and I reviewed for her test on Monday. We mainly went over the circle theorems and how to apply the theorems to find missing angles and arcs. We also covered some trigonometry like angle of elevation and angle of depression word problems and we went over special right triangles. The student didn't struggle at all with the topics and did an excellent job working out the problems. She understood the concept and did a great job applying the theorems to solve the problem. I think she can do more challenging problems because I find the problems that she gets for homework are not challenging for her. Next time when I come I would bring some challenging proofs which she said she had trouble with in the last exam. Overall the student was excellent and it was a pleasure working with her today.

The student is learning combinations and permutations which can be a very confusing topic. We worked through many practice sets, and she seemed much more comfortable with the information.

We took the ACT English diagnostic test 10 together, as well as the revising content test. We also discussed test taking strategies, the format and contents of the test, and plans for next session extensively. The student has improved significantly , especially at correcting grammatical errors. He has a much improved eye for punctuation and a stronger understanding of the rules governing it. He will take a diagnostic ACT English and math test and send me his results before our next session.

Tutoring review by Sarah Brooke in Great Neck Plaza, NY
Today was our last session. He takes his test this Saturday. We spent the session using the new prep book he bought to go over a few questions from each of the four sections. He did very well on the reading and English sections, solid on the math, and perfect on the science. He absolutely needs to make sure to get a good night's sleep the day before the test. His performance while refreshed and awake is excellent. I know if he gets enough sleep Friday night, he will rock the ACT.

Tutoring review by Spencer in Great Neck Plaza, NY
The student and I covered material from his math class that he missed the last couple days. This mostly included creating ratios with different units and converting between units. Right now he is just converting within the metric system or other conventional conversions. We took on some advanced problems to engage him. I urged him to show his work.

Tutoring review by Sean in Great Neck Plaza, NY
The student caught up on his math homework, becoming familiar with exponent properties (multiplying and raising powers to powers). He picked these up quickly and only had a couple slips that he caught quickly. For the rest of the session, we reviewed some genetics terms for his biology quiz. Initially he had some misconceptions, but after practice, he displayed a more thorough understanding of the molecular component of genetics.
