During this meeting the student needed to work on getting WinBugs running and match the values in it and BMIRT. We discussed how best she can proceed and got the data read into the programs. We also discussed the ways in which I can be helpful. By the end of the meeting the student was pleased with what she accomplished and we made plans for what to do when meeting on Monday

Topics covered: exponential identities, linear inequalities, fractions, probability, sequences, factoring, distributing, growth, and decay
We did a general overview in preparation for the exam. We went over how to simplify exponential functions and prove that any number raised to the 0 is equal to 1. We reviewed ways to find the other factors of a number given a pair of factors and breaking it down to its prime factorization. Her ability to handle sequences has greatly improved. She struggles a bit with fractions, in particular adding fractions with different denominators, but we will continue to work on this.

We worked on adding and subtracting fractions with variables in the numerator/denominator. The main focus was making sure the denominators are the same before adding them, and doing the same on top and bottom. I taught the student about reciprocals since there were some more complicated problems that required him to switch dividing into multiplying by the reciprocal.

The student and I worked on a set of selected practice problems related to each of the three sections of the exam. I observed that he had some minor issues with more complex vocabulary, but performed well overall. I believe that the meeting was helpful due to his level of focus and preparedness. I made an effort to reiterate many of the testing strategies we had discussed throughout the past few weeks, like incorrect answer elimination. For extra practice, I recommended using the online resources and practicing his vocabulary.

Today the student and I went over some last-minute test-taking skills. We went over how to answer a math word problem by finding the important information. We also went over how to answer reading comprehension questions. A lot of the skills we discussed as tutoring went along. Her math skills have improved greatly since tutoring began. She does not panic as much as she once did when she sees a problem that she doesn't understand. She will do well on the test.

Great session! The student reviewed prefixes and suffixes for vocabulary practice and reviewed math concepts including integers, absolute value, word problems, and cylinder geometry. His test is on Saturday. Thus concludes our tutoring sessions.
