Tutoring review by Laura in Carteret, NJ
This was my first session with this student. I did see two tests that he has recently taken to see which concepts he is struggling with. He worked on his math homework today, which included reviewing a lesson on comparison problems and problems involving elapsed time. We then worked on 30 practice problems, which is a cumulative review of all concepts he has learned this year. His basic facts for subtraction, addition, multiplication, and division are good. Two areas where he struggled are converting fractions into percents (I showed him a way in how to do it), and solving for a variable (he gets a bit mixed up as to the operation needed to use to solve the problem). Next session, I will make sure we do some extra work on both solving for a variable and fractions and percents. I can also look up extra practice recommendations on those concepts with the family.

Tutoring review by Kristof-Pierre in Carteret, NJ
The student has moved on to 2d motion and some force problems. We spent the session reviewing 2/3rds of her homework assignment. She still has some trouble identifying keywords that should help in figuring out the type of problem and which equations to use, but once she gets going she can usually some the problem. We will continue to address this.

Today, we introduced inverse trigonometric functions and finding values of inverse trigonometric functions with and without a calculator. We also looked at nestled trigonometric functions and how to solve them using triangles. Finally, we worked on transformations of sec(x), csc(x), and cot(x) graphs. The student showed great improvement in work involving the unit circle!

Tutoring review by Calcutta in Carteret, NJ
We finished completing a difficult level math practice assessment. The student was quite patient during the practice test and used critical thinking skills and best test-taking skill practices throughout our session! She will not only continue to memorize vocabulary definitions this week, but she will also learn formulas for finding the area and volume of all geometric and 3D shapes. She also needs more practice finding the slope of a line from a given equation and finding the square of a binomial. Good luck on your test this Saturday; you have worked so hard to prepare, and I am proud of your efforts!

Tutoring review by Mark in Carteret, NJ
The student had an assignment to gather descriptive statistics from a large data file in SPSS. We walked through the process of generating a codebook that gave descriptive stats for central tendency (mean median) , dispersion (standard deviation, interquartile range), and frequencies. We used SPSS to generate frequency bar graphs for sex and activity measurements, and we made a box and whisker plot for age.
