Advanced Placement Prep Tutor • +32 Subjects
Hi, my name is Hans and I am a recent graduate of Northwestern University in Chicago. While there, I majored in Economics and minored in International Studies with a focus in International Political Economy and Development. Beyond these classes, I also had a healthy, eclectic interest in a wide range of subject areas including Multivariable Calculus, Physics, and Film. It is also worth noting that I was able to accomplish all of this in three years, rather than four, due to my focus and success on AP tests. As for my specific tutoring experience, I have been teaching students since high school, and volunteering with local children of lower socioeconomic status for the past three years. These lessons have been for students of all ages ranging from elementary school to college. In high school I also excelled on the SAT (2220) and a plethora of AP tests (4s and 5s across the board), and so would be happy to aid with any test prep you may need.I am a very amicable person, and truly think that I could have a successful tutoring relationship with virtually anyone. I am happy to speak with you more prior to a lesson should you have any questions regarding my qualifications and/or character. Thank you for your time and I hope to work with you soon!

I love working with students, and that joy comes through into my sessions. I don't judge the struggles of my students. I would rather work to build on the skills they have already and to point out all of the positive accomplishments they achieve.

I am an attorney in Washington, D.C., who serves as a judicial law clerk for the presiding judge of the criminal division at the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. Prior to clerking, I worked as an associate at a reputable law firm where my practice focused on white collar defense, internal investigations, and complex commercial litigation. During law school, I completed internships at U.S. Department of Justice's U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia's Homicide Section and the Office of International Affairs. Additionally, I worked as a teaching assistant in criminal law, criminal procedure, and advanced criminal procedure courses. Lastly, I gained practical experience by completing over 650 hours of pro bono legal services in his law school's criminal defense and community development clinics. In undergrad, I majored in political science with a minor in psychology.I am excited about the opportunity to assist students in understanding both fundamental and complex legal concepts that play a major role in our day-to-day lives.

I am most happy when I am actively learning, sharing, and growing with others. My favorite job I have had, and the one I was probably best at, was another teaching/mentorship role as camp counselor for 4 summers. I worked with all ages from 8 to 15 but mostly got to know campers ages 12 to 14.I graduated from Vanderbilt University with a Bachelor of Science in Human and Organizational Development in 2017. Most of my assignments during my undergraduate experience were essay- or presentation-based, but I also have taken math classes up through multivariable calculus.I have taken the ACT, SAT, PSAT, and GMAT multiple times and have a firm grasp on those tests.I like to teach in the exact same way I learn, by getting to the root of an idea, problem, etc. If you memorize a formula or a grammatical rule, you can remember it for the test, but you'll forget it a week later. If you learn why that formula or that rule exists and why it works, you'll retain that information for far longer and can rediscover and recall it much more successfully down the line.Academics aside, I love to tell jokes, write funny poetry, play chess, go skiing and hiking, and swing dance.

I completed undergraduate and graduate studies at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN, where I got my B.A. in Music and M.Ed in Secondary Education. After graduating, I volunteered in Buffalo, NY with an after-school program where I provided one-on-one instruction for K-12 students in all subject areas but focused in math and literacy. I also worked as a substitute teacher in the Buffalo area providing quality instruction in a variety of disciplines as needed. I plan to continue substitute teaching in the 2015-2016 school year in the San Francisco Bay Area. While my teaching certification is in instrumental music, my primary interest in tutoring is high school core subjects like math and English. I believe these fundamental subjects are the basis of effective thought and communication that set students up for future success. My goal is to guide students to find their own answers and understandings so they can become effective independent learners. I believe the key to academic success is a combination of patience and high expectations, working hard to achieve real measurable progress.
Qays
A Beginner's Guide: Excel Tutor • +95 Subjects
Hello! My name is Qays (like "rice" but with a "k" = "Kice") Abu-Saymeh, and I recently graduated from the University of Kansas Honors Program with a Bachelor of Science in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology and Psychology. This fall I will be attending medical school in Kansas City.As an undergraduate teaching assistant for the introductory biology course in college, I focused on assisting the professor with teaching biological concepts in a one-on-one and group setting. I would assist by creating workshops that allowed me to assess student's learning and help with understanding specific materials that they struggled with. By also having office hours frequently, I became well-versed in different learning styles of students and answering their questions. Additionally, weekly meetings were held with the professor and other teaching assistants to ensure student success by discussing their responses and preparing for administering the material for the following week. Through this experience, I have developed essential training skills for working with different learning preferences and accommodating student's needs resulting in positive feedback at the end of each semester with my students.Prior to college, I have had tutoring experience with students from K-12 years in many different subjects including Reading and Comprehension, Mathematics (Algebra to Calculus 3), Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science), and History. Leading sessions in these subjects with students helped them improve their proficiency in all areas and build on their learning skills. Having this knowledge, I also provide tutoring services for the ACT.As a future medical student, I have had great review over MCAT related subjects including Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Reading and Comprehension, Psychology, and Sociology.
