Tutoring review by Carin in Norridge, IL
We started with a review of his current worksheet, which involved finding the lateral and total areas of rectangular prisms and regular polygons. I showed him a shortcut to finding the total area of a rectangular prism, and he got that down right away. By the end, the student was able to easily establish the bases, and with the apothem, calculate the total and lateral areas. After I left, I realized how he might solve the triangle problem, so I called on the phone. He understood, and will try the problem again. I'm sure with a little practice, the student will be able to grasp the concepts better and improve his grade.

Tutoring review by Anna Livia in Norridge, IL
Today, the student and I finished out the last two passages for the reading section of the practice test we have been working on. She did well, getting 7 right on the social sciences passage and 8 on the natural sciences section. Part of how we worked this section strategy is to spend the least amount of time on the section that is most daunting, to give her extra time on the sections she is good at so that she can get very high scores on those sections. This strategy worked well this time, so we will use it for the test. Coming up on our last week of tutoring before the test, she and I decided we will focus on math and science for our two 2-hour sessions next week, also spending a little time on reading. We think she is doing a lot better and are hopeful about these strategies in raising her score overall!

Tutoring review by Robert in Norridge, IL
To the student's relief and my expectations, he earned an 86% on his latest calculus test, a great improvement for him. His mistakes were mostly mechanical; he "nailed" the theoretical questions. His confidence is much improved. During today's session, I supported him on his latest homework, which included: 1. properties of logarithms, 2. differentiating and integrating functions containing natural numbers and natural logarithms, and 3. paying careful attention to the restrictions when differentiating functions involving absolute values. I told him how proud of him I am but that he must continue studying a lot to ensure he will pass this class.
