Hello! I received my bachelor's degree in linguistics at the University of Illinois - Urbana-Champaign in 2016. I am an English, reading, writing, math, ISEE, SAT, and ACT tutor, specializing in aiding children and adults reach their goals while assisting them in completing homework assignments and essays, in addition to helping them prepare for tests and exams. I'm passionate about assisting students in developing their reading skills and math knowledge. My tutoring methods consist of breaking down complex topics into smaller steps so that I can help my students better understand the subject material. Most recently, I've worked with several students aiming to take the ISEE, SAT, and ACT tests, oftentimes collaborating with them in creating a study plan that would be most effective in attaining their desired scores while helping to improve their reading and math skills. I view each student as an individual with their own strengths and weaknesses, which enables me to design a unique study plan that strives to improve their weaker areas while emphasizing their strengths. Additionally, I assign homework that aligns with my tutoring sessions so that students can practice the skills they learned during the tutoring sessions and begin to comprehend common concepts featured on the ACT, SAT, and ISEE tests. Through practice and diligence, my students begin to improve in their reading and math skills while achieving their desired results in their chosen exams and classes.

I am a rising junior at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign studying Computer Engineering. I love learning and teaching math, science, and programming. I have mentored kids ranging from 5-15 and worked as a counselor for a science camp. My favorite subject to tutor would be programming since I have had a lot of experience in the area and it's so amazing to see students with little to no experience code their first projects. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends and occasionally will embark on small side projects to spend my time.

I am a native speaker of German, and obtained my high school diploma ("Abitur") from high school ("Gymnasium") in my hometown in Oldenburg, Germany. After my move to the USA I graduated with an Associate Degree in Science from Parkland College in Champaign, IL. I continued my studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign, majoring in Food Science. During my college years I worked as a tutor in a peer tutoring lab. I was asked to tutor German, Comparative Literature 1, Organic Chemistry and Algebra based on my GPA and professional conduct. I am currently enrolled at SUNY Empire State College for the completion of my Bachelor in Science in Psychology. While I provided instruction for a variety of subjects, I enjoyed tutoring German the most. As a native speaker, I felt most at ease in broadening my students' knowledge of the German language. Since I am fluent in English I have excellent communication skills, and the ability to explain the concepts of a foreign language in the student's native language. I am very familiar with grammar and its challenges, which translates to an understanding of German and English grammar. Having taken a number of writing classes over the years, I am comfortable in providing instruction towards written assignments.Aside from tutoring, I am also an experienced child care provider, having worked with children ages three to sixteen. As a mom of three children, I have learned how to motivate children and teenagers to gain knowledge in various areas of study. I enjoy getting to know a person, and finding a way to raise his/her curiosity about a new subject. Having grown up in Germany, I love educating people about German culture, customs and history.I am a firm believer in lifelong learning. In recent years I was a student of Karate, Creative Writing, Fitness and Health. In my spare time, I have volunteered as a soccer coach for my daughter's soccer team, and as a foster parent for a cat rescue organization, in addition to supervising recess at my children's school. My hobbies include cooking, baking, reading and spending time outdoors. I enjoy taking trips with my family, exploring different areas of the country, and imparting interest in history to my children.

Teaching brings the potential to inspire. By sharing passions and knowledge, one can spread joy and spark creativity, as another discovers new aspects of life. The excitement that comes with learning something fascinating or overcoming a difficult problem is what drives inspiration. The confidence that can be gained from learning can also inspire others to reach greater heights that might have been previously thought not possible. As a tutor, I strive to share my knowledge and passions with my students so that they can find the same joy that I feel, as I act as a stepping stone for their success. My mission is to prioritize the goals of the student. I will do so by identifying and supplementing the strengths of my students and using those strengths to teach the student how their skills can be used to overcome challenges or weaknesses. I have held many leadership positions at my time at the University of Illinois, such as assistant manager and acting as service chair in the pre-professional organization, Phi Delta Epsilon. These have taught me valuable leadership skills so that I can act as a leader amongst my peers. Finally, I have a wealth of knowledge acquired from earning my degree at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Having graduated with a degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology with a minor in Chemistry while on the pre-med track, I have acquired knowledge and techniques to pass onto students through a wide range of science courses. The hours I have spent dedicated toward working on my goal of becoming a physician has taught me various stress-coping mechanisms, study skills, and many other useful tips and tricks that I can pass onto my students. Ultimately, I hope that my dedication to my students will supplement their goals and provide anything that can help them get to where they want to be.
