Today, we continued the same type of session that we have been doing the last several weeks. The student was given another packet of multiple choice questions that covered all of the topics that we have discussed this year. I had him work each of these problems individually and then explain the concept behind the problem and how he got to his answer. For the Roman numeral type questions (i.e. I, I and II, all, etc.), I had him go choice by choice to explain why the options were either true or false. I believe these give one of the best indications of how well he understands each of the concepts. Overall, I thought he handled these problems very well (very tricky problems). One strategy that we I reminded him to utilize was to use his calculator (these were the calculator allowed multiple choice questions). At least 3 of the problems we were worked were quite easy if you use the calculator but very difficult otherwise. We will continue this kind of session on Wednesday.

First, I gave the student some advice on how to prepare for his Thursday test. I mentioned to him things such as going through the homework and examples, and going through the study guide as part of the preparation. Also, I gave him some tips on what to do during the test. These tips included doing the easiest problems first and saving the hardest ones for the last. Next, we moved on to doing a few problems from the review sheet. These few problems involved with taking the limit of a function as 'x' approaches infinity, zero, or some other number. The problems also involved finding a line tangent to a function at some particular point.

We have covered section 10.1 and 10.2 yesterday. Topics included simplifying and verifying trigonometry identities. I've introduced several techniques in approaching these problems. There are many variations in these type of problems, some of them he could solve easily.

The student and I went over section 4.5. The section covered story problems, which have to do with maximum and minimum values. He has a test next Fri. Right now he is getting a C in the course. Hopefully, he can maintain his grade for the last couple weeks of class.
