How can a Spanish tutor help you?

If you are confused by certain aspects of the Spanish language and fear this may cause you to fall behind in class, it may be time to consider a personal tutor. Varsity Tutors can help you connect with Spanish tutoring in New Jersey, allowing you to get help at a time and place that works best for you - including online.

Private New Jersey Spanish tutoring allows you to work with a tutor on any aspect of Spanish that you may find confusing. Unlike a full classroom, you are the only pupil in the lesson, and therefore, your individual learning needs can be the focus of the sessions. This means that your tutor can teach to your unique learning style. They can even adapt throughout the lesson based on the concepts being covered and your needs. For example, you may prefer watching a video in Spanish with English subtitles to help you with pronunciation, but prefer actively participating in a conversation with your tutor to help you with sentence structure. Your tutor can accommodate these needs. Whichever learning style you prefer (aural, visual, or kinesthetic) is the style your sessions can be taught in.

Session Summaries by Spanish Tutors

Spanish Tutoring review by Susie in New Jersey
We covered the remaining chapter of continuity, infinite limits, and the intermediate value theorem, and began the derivative chapter with the limit definition of a derivative and solving simple derivatives. She has been assigned a large amount of homework from each section but we can condense the homework down when school starts for her. This is just to make sure she gets plenty of practice with the fundamentals before we move on to more complex derivatives. She is a very quick and attentive learner and is a pleasure to teach. She has great potential to be one of the most advanced students in her AP class.

Spanish Tutoring review by Anna in New Jersey
The student and I reviewed solving equations with absolute values. She needed reinforcement on when to switch the signs in solving simple abs value, as well as abs value inequalities. After going through all her practice problems she was solid. We then went over AP U.S. History. We reviewed the amendments and their importance, then delved into pre- War of 1812 events. I told her to memorize all the amendments during this week, and to be ready to recite them to me during our next session.

Spanish Tutoring review by Kendra in New Jersey
Today the student and I finished his math homework, which had to do with adding and subtracting decimals. He does well at this and seems to understand the concept very well. He also had to solve for a variable in an equation, which he understood. He worked well with greater than and less than signs and understanding their relation to numbers. We worked on commas to break an addressee away from a sentence. He picks up quickly on grammatical structures. He did this with commas to break apart phrases or words away from a sentence, as well. We then worked on several pages from his math book. We did work with double-digit multiplication. Next, we will cover decimals and multiplication and review rounding of decimals.

Spanish Tutoring review by Jeffrey in New Jersey
Today we worked on accelerating the student's reading speed, by having him focus more on the main idea at first, and then supplementing that with careful reading per question. This went surprisingly well, and he was able to complete all 3 of the passages we worked on in the time allotted. Accuracy was also pretty good, with just a little over 1 error per passage. I think this is the way to go for his style. We then spent a little time on quant comparison review. Each session we seem to make a little progress, and he seems to be getting faster and more confident. The 'difficult' questions are still throwing him for a loop more often than not, and we'll of course continue to work on those. Lastly, we started on the mathematics achievement section, which is mostly word problems. We mostly just covered the basics and some simple properties of triangles. Overall, this was a good session.

Spanish Tutoring review by Denise in New Jersey
We've been splitting our test prep time between reading comprehension and multiple choice math questions, practicing good test taking techniques on both. Student has greatly improved in his ability to use contextual clues to infer definitions of unfamiliar vocabulary and has been able to answer with greater speed. I'm also happy to see he's been more willing to narrow down answers and make educated guesses when faced with a timed test. We're also continuing to play "dictionary", which I believe has aided his ability to use contextual clues to define new vocabulary. (He particularly enjoys finding words and using them in a sentence to see if I can determine their correct definition.) In addition to this we're also playing poker as a way to learn estimates and probability and I also use it to reinforce the concept of variables and data mining.

Spanish Tutoring review by Katherine in New Jersey
In this session, the student and I nearly finished the alphabet. I added a song with melody for her to practice with the alphabet. We also reviewed common phrases previously learned by role playing situations in which we could use them.
