Test Prep Tutoring review by Courtney in New Jersey
Because of our long break, the two students and I worked during this session to reacquaint them with the ISEE and go through some examples in each section. We did a few drills for the Verbal section that included many of our strategies such as coming up with your own synonym first, looking at root words, and determining the word's context. Both students have felt nervous about this section in the past, but I think after working on it today they are feeling more confident. We also worked several problems in the Quantitative Reasoning, Reading, and Mathematics Achievement sections. They both excelled in Math today, even on the more challenging problems. They are still unsure with the comparison Quantitative Questions, but they are doing much better.

Test Prep Tutoring review by Daniel in New Jersey
This class, we finished all of the vocabulary words suggested to be learned by the test prep book for the test. By the end, there are about four inches worth of vocabulary cards, and although we didn't have time to go over all of them, we went over a large portion of them. He said that he would try to keep learning them for the next session. With the vocabulary done, and the math outline completed, we went on to more practice tests. He completed two math sections in this time, and I completed them both as well, working on one when he was working on the others. Total, each section took 35 minutes to complete, and this took us right up to the end of the session. We resolved to review and grade the problems during the next session.

Test Prep Tutoring review by Jazmyn in New Jersey
Yesterday, the student and I went over her assigned homework problems. The only few of those problems that she got wrong were because she did not fully understand foiling. Aside from that, all of the other problems were correct. We then worked on finishing all of the math sections that we had started. We worked on a number of problems alongside each other and then compared answers. In doing this, she was able to see my work and understand where she may have messed up. We also did a diagnostic mini-test that included math and scrambled paragraphs. Before our next session, she needs to do the reading section of the diagnostic mini-test and finish up the rest of the math section.

The student practiced her grammar on a piece that I prepared for her, and then we went into doing test practice passages. For the first one, she was given as much time as she wanted for a single passage. She scored a 21. The second time, she was given only the allotted 9 minutes and scored a 23. The last attempt, a 9-minute timed attempt, found her score at a 25. She is making vast improvements, and I believe we will move on into tutoring for reading next session.

Test Prep Tutoring review by Scott in New Jersey
This was the last time we met before the test, so I reviewed all the math concepts we had covered. There were a couple of things the student had forgotten, but for the most part he had a very good grasp of the material. I told him to review a few of these before the test, and we also reviewed general test-taking strategies.

Test Prep Tutoring review by Alysia in New Jersey
Today we reviewed all of the topics covered under the pre-algebra/numerical skills portion of the test which includes manipulating fractions, order of operations, percentages, integers, averages, square roots, scientific notation, ratios and proportions. After reviewing what we worked on last week the student took a practice exam on his own and answered 13 of 14 questions correctly. We then moved on to reviewing the algebra section of the test and he got 4 out of 4 answers correct. It is apparent that his confidence in himself and his skills is improving and I look forward to our next session.
