In this session I met with the student for the first time and discussed the requirements of his algebra/trigonometry course. Right now he is studying a basic algebra review chapter, and we worked on simplifying and solving problems with complex fractions or radicals. We also worked ahead in to the next chapter and reviewed the basics of analyzing the graphs of functions.

I conducted a review of Spanish vocabulary with the students to assess their knowledge. They do remember a lot despite not having any Spanish lessons since May 2011. At the next session, I will be giving them a quiz on the reviewed vocabulary. I sent the parent an alphabet list to review with them. I will be using a text book from their previous school to create the curriculum.

The student had a  paper that involved a lot of sociology jargon. It was important that she study hard to synthesize the material and put it into her own words. She did this well. We are still going over how to build an argument. Her typos are getting better and her mindfulness about grammar is much better.
