English Tutoring review by Paul in New Jersey
Today the student and I started out reviewing flash cards for division and multiplication. He is still having some trouble with 9x6, 9x4, 8x8, and 8x3. We reviewed solving these time tables using ones that he knows and counting to the next one. Then we continued reading "The Chocolate Touch", getting to chapter 2. He read a few pages and continues to retain interest in the story, reviewing the story line after reading. We finished be reviewing multiplication and division flash cards.

The student rocked it again. He read two books with very little difficulty. I'm still teaching him how to sound out words. His confidence has grown tremendously and he's willing to take on books. There's no fighting, and he is so focused. I've been so pleased and impressed.

English Tutoring review by Patricia in New Jersey
We began by reviewing his newest spelling words; he had them all right. After that, we played a "Make A Word" game that he likes, using different letter options than the last time we played. It went very well. The student was able to make many words and spell them correctly almost without help in each instance. He was quite excited to be the winner! Next, I asked him review questions on Chapter 6, where we'd stopped in reading his "Ninjas" book. He did pretty well in recalling the events and details of the Chapter and reading the selected words introduced in that chapter. To end, we read Chapter 7. His homework is to study words #8-15 in his spelling lesson.

English Tutoring review by Matthew in New Jersey
In this session we worked through three non-fiction passages that were interdisciplinary. We worked on accessing prior knowledge of the text, through creating a KWL chart as a way to monitor what we already knew and what we learned from the passage. This helped the student keep his thoughts organized coherently, and also address any issues he didn't understand in the text. We then answered common core aligned questions to assess his understanding. The student did well monitoring himself during reading, which helped answer the questions in more accurate depth.

English Tutoring review by Ashley in New Jersey
In my session with the student, I began by using a fluency passage focusing on words read per minute. Following that passage, which we will be using weekly, I focused on our session on expression. We did a reader's theater passage, and discussed how punctuation and mood help us determine how to read with expression. I also checked her homework from last week as well as assigned her homework for the following week.

English Tutoring review by Angi in New Jersey
The student and I started off with a worksheet on nouns. He had to be able to distinguish a proper noun from a common noun. He did pretty well with this activity. After that we worked on a 4th grade reading passage. He did a really good job with that. The last thing we did was we began his essay on having an enjoyable hobby and why it is important to have hobbies. We finished the introduction and the first body paragraph. It was a great session.
